[Bug 184514] kvm hangs when installing dapper guest

2008-01-20 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

I have not been able to install a dapper guest on a machine running a
fresh install of gutsy. The CPU is: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5345 @
2.33GHz.

kvm hangs after approximately 37 CPU minutes, at a point after the
configuration of packages has taken place. The installer window message
says:

getting file 30 of 63

In a previous attempt, the process hung at file 29. This is the command
I used to build the dapper server:

# kvm -no-acpi -no-kvm -m 750 -cdrom
/tmp/ubuntu-6.06.1-alternate-i386.iso -boot d -hda /home/dapper-
server.img

and this is the command I used to build the qcow2 disk image:

# qemu-img create -f qcow2 dapper-server 6G

I have successfully built a gutsy server, using the following command:

# kvm -m 750 -cdrom /tmp/ubuntu-7.10-jeos-i386.iso -boot d -hda /home
/gutsy-server.img

If you run it as a different user, you can reduce the weight that
group has by changing the value of /sys/kernel/uids//cpu_share

nice should retain behaviour within a group.

i suffer this problem as well. it's because fglrx does support aiglx on

fglrx needs to be fixed OR xorg-core needs to be reverted. (do not revert this

[Bug 123775] Re: Elantech touchpad is incorrectly recogonised as a "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse"

2008-01-20 Thread linuxonbute
Update.
I received this reply from Arjan last night.

Quote
The driver is included in the 'mm' series of kernels. You
can think of it as the development branch where things are tested before
they are sent upstream for inclusion in the mainline kernel.

However, the driver must also be approved by the input subsystem maintainer
and he has expressed concern about it being too experimental at the moment
to consider it for the mainline kernel.

I guess it all comes down to more testers that can confirm the driver is
working for them, preferably with absolute mode reporting and the Xorg
synaptics driver.

End Quote

So it's up to all of us who need it to try to help with the testing.

[Bug 184525] awstats doesn't update

2008-01-20 Thread Helmut A. Bender
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: awstats

AWstats 6.6+dfsg-1 on Gutsy

awstats is configured to access /var/log/apache/access.log
Since the correct name ist /var/log/apache2/access.log it won't update its
statistics.

The path has to be corrected in /etc/cron.d/awstats and
/etc/awstats/awstats.conf.

The other problem is, that the cronjob runs as www-data, but the logfile (and
its directory) is only readable for root.adm, not for the world.
I don't know what's the solution for that; it could be security relevant.

Greetings
HAB

[Bug 173663] Re: compiz will not launch with fglrx driver - falls back to metacity

2008-01-20 Thread Miguel Martinez
There's some interesting stuff in the compiz script, apart from the
check pointed out by Yann Papouin. If I count the number of times that
"texture from pixmap" appears on glxinfo while using radeon (the FOSS
driver), I get:

$ glxinfo | grep texture_from_pixmap
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap,
GLX_SGIX_visual_select_group, GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
$ glxinfo | grep texture_from_pixmap -c
2

I've also grepped Edward Clark's full glxinfo report and
"texture_from_pixmap" also appears just two times, even though he is
using fglrx and I am using radeon. Please note that my card is a
Mobility Radeon 9600. But of course compiz loads with radeon[1]. I see
the hardy version is still 7.11 (I haven't tried it yet), but as
reverting xorg-core won't happen (I'm 99% sure of that), we'll have to
wait for a newer fglrx release. Does any of you know if 8.01 works with
xserver 1.4?

[1] After dist-upgrading to hardy, compiz refused to start, but that's
because the script was pointing to /usr/local/ instead of /usr/ for both
compiz.real binary and plugin libraries.

[Bug 125128] Re: display is blurry and too tall at 1400 x 1050

2008-01-20 Thread haelters
I have the same problem with the 203B on a Thinkpad X60 Tablet. This
laptop only has a VGA output and no DVI. There is most probably a
problem with the intel driver because the I810 driver is working. The
latter is working with the following changes in my xorg.conf file:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "SyncMaster"
DisplaySize 408 300
HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0
VertRefresh 60.0
Option "DDC" "false"
Modeline"1400x1050" 121.8 1400 1488 1632 1864 1050 1053 1057
1089
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Intel Controller 0"
Monitor "SyncMaster"
DefaultDepth24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1400x1050" "1280x1024"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1400x1050" "1280x1024"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1400x1050" "1280x1024"
EndSubSection
EndSection

However, this solution is not optimal, since XRandR is not usable with the i810
driver with multiple screens (at least I don't know how).

Will this bug be forwarded to the developers of the intel driver or do
we (I) have to to that ?

In the case where you wanted to use the live cd to install some apps,
and repair a system. Still, in that case, you'd hope that you would use
a final cd, not an alpha.

Closing, as this doesn't happen on the final cds - only on the alphas,

[Bug 66735] Re: Sound only works for first user to log onto client

2008-01-20 Thread Oliver Grawert
oh damned, i didnt get you use FUSA (fast user switching) this is indeed
a problem. what did you do to switch your user ? the applet is
deliberately patched to only show the logged in user and not offer any
switching (because of such bugs) as soon as it detects the ltsp ssh
connection from ldm. if we missed any piece in the UI that still offers
switching that needs to be fixed.

How to reproduce :

- Start ubiquity and reach the manual partitioning step ;
- select a partition and click "Edit partition" ;
- do any modification in the "Edit partition" dialog, like changing the mount

- click "OK" ;
- click the "Skip" button while ubiquity is applying the modifications to the

[Bug 184537] evolution character encoding problem in "from" field

Re: [Bug 105169] Re: mouse does not behave, work correctly with hwdb-client

2008-01-20 Thread Warwick Lill
G'day Pascal,

I just ran through the hwdb client again and a reported problem is still
present. The problem is that, even after the window is redrawn with a
new question, if the button to be clicked hasn't moved from under the
cursor, or the cursor hasn't moved off the button to be clicked, then
clicking the button isn't recognised. It is necessary to move the
cursor off the button and then back onto it again before clicking, if
the click is to be detected.

Good luck with finding a solution as this problem seem sto be present in
many places in Ubuntu, especially when installing.

Regards,

Warwick Lill
