[Bug 176175] Re: Please merge linux-ftpd-ssl_0.17.18+0.3-9.1 into Hardy

2007-12-14 Thread Luca Falavigna
Your Hardy debdiff does not include previous changelog entries (I'm
referring to 0.17.18+0.3-9ubuntu1 and 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu1). In order to
avoid overlooking them, you may want to use grab-merge.sh script
(http://merges.ubuntu.com/grab-merge.sh).

Regarding debdiffs for stable releases, you should adjust them:
1) Target must be {dapper,edgy,feisty,gutsy}-security
2) Version should be:
   - 0.17.18+0.3-9ubuntu1.1 for gutsy
   - 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu1.1 for feisty
   - 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu0.1 for edgy
   - 0.17.18+0.3-5ubuntu0-1 for dapper
3) Changelog entry should reflect security template
4) You must include security fix only, Standard-Version and distclean changes
are not allowed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityUpdateProcedures for the details.
Thanks.

[Bug 156366] Re: Feisty>Gutsy upgrade bricked my hard drives

2007-12-14 Thread dsiddens
I shut down the computer, removed the functioning Gutsy h.d., installed the

following on screen:

[13.443146] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge :00:04.0

and at the bottom of the screen:

in addition to the above on-screen messages, the caps lock led was
flashing

[Bug 176301] Re: Should provide a flag to disable ptrace()/LD_PRELOAD

2007-12-14 Thread Jesse Michael
Actually, AA already has a way to specify that LD_PRELOAD (and a number
of other env variables like that) should be cleared on exec.

It's definitely non-intuitive, but that's the distinction between Px and
px (and Ux and ux) in the profile language.

When a Px rule is used to grant execute permission, the bprm_secureexec
lsm hook is used to signal to glibc to that a "secure" exec is required.
glibc then strips LD_PRELOAD and does some other similar sanitization of
the environment while launching the new process. I don't remember the
full list of things that are done when a secure exec is requested.

Personally, I think Px (or a clearer syntax version) should be the
default, but a number of wrapper scripts rely on setting LD_PRELOAD or
LD_LIBRARY_PATH and it's tricky to tell why things are failing in that
case.

I don't know if Ix is a valid "cleaned" variation of the ix permission,
but I'm not sure how much benefit that would bring anyway.

Hi dillonger,

the easiest thing is to download
http://checkgmail.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/checkgmail/checkgmail,
and replace /usr/bin/checkgmail by this file. You can do:

$ cd /tmp
$ wget
http://checkgmail.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/checkgmail/checkgmail
$ sudo cp checkgmail /usr/bin

[Bug 140906] Re: aic79xx module crashes: Install of Gutsy (Tribe 5) and Feisty fails

2007-12-14 Thread Stefan Boresch
Sorry! Can't do this anymore: The underlying issue was indeed a hardware
problem (broken pin); however,
linux should have handled this more gracefully (and older kernels, maybe by
accident, did). Anyways, the
broken cable has long been replaced, so I could not reproduce the bug anymore.
Aside from this, this
is a production server ...

Again, sorry!

[Bug 176313] Software installation from add/remove fails if network was down during ubuntu installation

2007-12-14 Thread Manu Varkey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

Software installation from add/remove and automatic plugin installation
fails if network was down during Ubuntu installation. Add/remove keeps
on asking you to reload the package list each time you select a package
to install.

This is caused probably because online repositories are not added if
network was unreachable during Ubuntu installation. Enabling them
manually solves the problem. Although this is no issue for an
experienced user, a newbie would find no clue about what to do. It would
be better that add/remove automatically enables them for the user when
he selects a package to install or at least provide a dialog on what to
do instead of reloading the package list meaninglessly.

Observed on Ubuntu 7.10 32-bit

[Bug 176319] Zabbix Icons don't exist after apt-get install

2007-12-14 Thread Yoann G.
Public bug reported:

After apt-get install of ZABBIX Server, icon's database is empty : no icon has
been initialized . Therefore, it's impossible to realize network maps.
Indeed, 'images.sql' file (which is necessary during installation to initiate
icons database) is missing.

To overcome this problem, it is necessary to download source on ZABBIX

[Bug 176318] X applications crash after upgrade

2007-12-14 Thread min
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libcairo2

This may be related to libcairo2, but it may also be some other package
with dependency problems towards libcairo2...

I have been running Gutsy for some weeks. Yesterday libcairo2 was
upgraded to version 1.4.10-1ubuntu4.4. I did not add or remove any
packages, just a standard upgrade. Afterwards, my computer was rendered
virtually unusable. All X application started crashing/restarting. First
gnome-screensaver could not display the login/unlock prompt and I had to
kill it. Then firefox crashed and could not be started afterwards. Then
I rebooted my computer and gdm (gdmgreeter) would only flash the login
prompt and then restart. Nothing tasty in the logs, as far as I can see,
though. If I run startx, X starts fine (mouse pointer and wallpaper are
displayed) but the gnome components (menu bar, desktop icons, etc.) do
not. First they flash like they are started, then crash, then restart, a
couple of times. Then the system seems to give up and all I have is my
wall paper and mouse pointer.

Something that may give a clue: If I try to start gnome-terminal over
SSH, I get the following error message: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FT_Library_SetLcdFilter

I downgraded libcairo2 to the version provided by feisty
(1.4.2-0ubuntu1.2). Then at least gdm, firefox, gnome-screensaver and
thunderbird started working again. But I still can't start gnome-
terminal - same error message. If I downgrade also libxft2
(2.1.12-1_i386), the error message complains about the same undefined
symbol, but now in libcairo.so.2.

This may be the same bug as Bug #145244, but downgrading libxft2 to
feisty version and keep libcairo2 as gutsy does not help as that bug
report states.

I have also tried downgrading to the other two libcairo2 versions
provided by gutsy-updates and gutsy (1.4.10-1ubuntu4.1 and
1.4.10-1ubuntu4), but had no luck. Those versions makes the system
behave as badly as the 1.4.10-1ubuntu4.4 version.

Any clues?

[Bug 145152] Re: [gutsy] "Pictures folder" shows all pictures in $HOME

2007-12-14 Thread Christoph Langner
But nevertheless. The screensaver should never, ever show all pictures
out of $HOME, even if

# xdg-user-dirs-update --set PICTURES $HOME

is set.

The risk for exposing sensible information is to high. In my eyes gnome-
screensaver should display a information to set XDG_PICTURES_DIR to a
subdirectory inside $HOME, when it finds out that it will display all
pictures inside $HOME.

[Bug 176101] Re: Laptop with USB wireless keyboard & mouse and external screen

2007-12-14 Thread John Rose
I just found out about aticonfig (as the Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop uses
a Radeon Xpress graphics card). I used the clone & mode2 parameters to
change the xorg.conf file. This now allows both screens to display at
login & onwards. However, it would still be nice to see both screens
during boot. At the moment I only see the laptop's as I configured the
boot initramfs to use the laptop's resolution.

The wireless usb Belkin keyboard doesn't fully work in that typing a
character twice doesn't work for the 2nd press unless there is a
significant (approx a second) after the 1st press.

[Bug 176320] netperf can not be built successfully in Hary alpha1 due to sched.h changed

Public bug reported:

In Hardy alpha1, after install the package libc6-dev, which version is
2.7-4ubuntu1, build the netperf tool, the build will be failed with the error:
netlib.c:1725: undefined reference to '__CPU_ZERO'
netlib.c: 1727: undefined reference to '__CPU_SET'

check the file: /usr/include/sched.h in the libc6-dev(2.7-4ubuntu1)
the define change to:
# define CPU_SET(cpu, cpusetp)   __CPU_SET_S(cpu, sizeof
(cpu_set_t), cpusetp)
# define CPU_ZERO_S(cpu, setsize, cpusetp)   __CPU_ZERO_S(cpu, setsize,
cpusetp)
# define CPU_SET_S(cpu, setsize, cpusetp)   __CPU_SET_S(cpu, setsize,
cpusetp)

I have checked this on Gutsy version which use libc6-dev(2.6.1-1ubuntu10), it
shows as below:
# define CPU_SET(cpu, cpusetp)  __CPU_SET(cpu, cpusetp)

[Bug 176326] Wont' work with KVM switch

2007-12-14 Thread John Franklin
Public bug reported:

Since Dapper, Ubuntu hasn't worked with my KVM switch, or those of others
judging by forum messages.
The mouse is unusable, moving very erratically and selecting items without
pressing any buttons.
The keyboard adds characters to what is typed.
If the Ubuntu machine is not selected at the time, Ubuntu boots up with
low-definition video instead of that last used or set through preferences.
I've tried more than one mouse/track ball. My KVM switch is a Starview SV411,
one year old.

Is it possible to suspend from a LiveCD? It worked for me once, but I don't

Is it possible to hibernate from a LiveCD? Never worked for me.

I will still wait for the next LiveCD for testing, but uploading a 7.10
package to a separate place and giving us a link, will give you another
test bunny. BTW, I think this bug is confirmed, who can confirm it?

[Bug 176324] Constant segfaults in php5-cgi 5.2.3-1ubuntu6.2

2007-12-14 Thread Motin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5-cgi

On a freshly installed Gutsy server 64-bit machine, the latest version
of php5-cgi is constantly segfaulting causing internal server 500 error

[Bug 174906] Re: gravitywars has no .desktop file

2007-12-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Salvatore,

This patch results in a separate copy of gravitywars.xpm being installed
under the pixmaps directory. I realize it's a small file, but it still
seems preferable to me to install just one copy and then add a symlink
to it from the other location. Would you consider making this change
and submitting an updated patch?

2007-12-14 Thread Antonelllo Moneta
Hi Leann,

I have the same problem as Aaron. I try to do like you wrote before: I
installed new kernel image, and(I decided by myself) to do the apgrade
of a lot of packages. The result it was no so good, I mean the hibernate
was working properly but I got this problems:

1. I could not finish the upgrade because the synaptic was unable to find
python-brlapi.
2. Wireless connection was not working.
3. I got 4/5 system crash.
4. My laptop seems working slowly, also when I removed the new kernel image and
reboot with the old one.

Anyway thank you for your tip, I hope my experience can help your work.

Greetings Antonello.

general, but not if my external USB-Hub is connected. It also seems to
slow down hibernate, when it is connected. There are some messages
indicating that the USB hub will not suspend. Sorry, I do not know which
package to report this correctly, so someone correct me, if I am wrong
with that choice.

But how do you classify a bug once you know the associated package?
