[Bug 176175] Re: Please merge linux-ftpd-ssl_0.17.18+0.3-9.1 into Hardy
Your Hardy debdiff does not include previous changelog entries (I'm referring to 0.17.18+0.3-9ubuntu1 and 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu1). In order to avoid overlooking them, you may want to use grab-merge.sh script (http://merges.ubuntu.com/grab-merge.sh). Regarding debdiffs for stable releases, you should adjust them: 1) Target must be {dapper,edgy,feisty,gutsy}-security 2) Version should be: - 0.17.18+0.3-9ubuntu1.1 for gutsy - 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu1.1 for feisty - 0.17.18+0.3-6ubuntu0.1 for edgy - 0.17.18+0.3-5ubuntu0-1 for dapper 3) Changelog entry should reflect security template 4) You must include security fix only, Standard-Version and distclean changes are not allowed. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityUpdateProcedures for the details. Thanks. ** Changed in: linux-ftpd-ssl (Ubuntu Hardy) Assignee: Luca Falavigna (dktrkranz) => Pedro Fragoso (pmf) -- Please merge linux-ftpd-ssl_0.17.18+0.3-9.1 into Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 176301] Re: Should provide a flag to disable ptrace()/LD_PRELOAD
Actually, AA already has a way to specify that LD_PRELOAD (and a number of other env variables like that) should be cleared on exec. It's definitely non-intuitive, but that's the distinction between Px and px (and Ux and ux) in the profile language. When a Px rule is used to grant execute permission, the bprm_secureexec lsm hook is used to signal to glibc to that a "secure" exec is required. glibc then strips LD_PRELOAD and does some other similar sanitization of the environment while launching the new process. I don't remember the full list of things that are done when a secure exec is requested. Personally, I think Px (or a clearer syntax version) should be the default, but a number of wrapper scripts rely on setting LD_PRELOAD or LD_LIBRARY_PATH and it's tricky to tell why things are failing in that case. I don't know if Ix is a valid "cleaned" variation of the ix permission, but I'm not sure how much benefit that would bring anyway. -- Should provide a flag to disable ptrace()/LD_PRELOAD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 176313] Software installation from add/remove fails if network was down during ubuntu installation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-app-install Software installation from add/remove and automatic plugin installation fails if network was down during Ubuntu installation. Add/remove keeps on asking you to reload the package list each time you select a package to install. This is caused probably because online repositories are not added if network was unreachable during Ubuntu installation. Enabling them manually solves the problem. Although this is no issue for an experienced user, a newbie would find no clue about what to do. It would be better that add/remove automatically enables them for the user when he selects a package to install or at least provide a dialog on what to do instead of reloading the package list meaninglessly. [Bug 176318] X applications crash after upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libcairo2 This may be related to libcairo2, but it may also be some other package with dependency problems towards libcairo2... I have been running Gutsy for some weeks. Yesterday libcairo2 was upgraded to version 1.4.10-1ubuntu4.4. I did not add or remove any packages, just a standard upgrade. Afterwards, my computer was rendered virtually unusable. All X application started crashing/restarting. First gnome-screensaver could not display the login/unlock prompt and I had to kill it. Then firefox crashed and could not be started afterwards. Then I rebooted my computer and gdm (gdmgreeter) would only flash the login prompt and then restart. Nothing tasty in the logs, as far as I can see, though. If I run startx, X starts fine (mouse pointer and wallpaper are displayed) but the gnome components (menu bar, desktop icons, etc.) do not. First they flash like they are started, then crash, then restart, a couple of times. Then the system seems to give up and all I have is my wall paper and mouse pointer. Something that may give a clue: If I try to start gnome-terminal over SSH, I get the following error message: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXft.so.2: undefined symbol: FT_Library_SetLcdFilter I downgraded libcairo2 to the version provided by feisty (1.4.2-0ubuntu1.2). Then at least gdm, firefox, gnome-screensaver and thunderbird started working again. But I still can't start gnome- terminal - same error message. If I downgrade also libxft2 (2.1.12-1_i386), the error message complains about the same undefined symbol, but now in libcairo.so.2. This may be the same bug as Bug #145244, but downgrading libxft2 to feisty version and keep libcairo2 as gutsy does not help as that bug report states. I have also tried downgrading to the other two libcairo2 versions provided by gutsy-updates and gutsy (1.4.10-1ubuntu4.1 and 1.4.10-1ubuntu4), but had no luck. Those versions makes the system behave as badly as the 1.4.10-1ubuntu4.4 version. [Bug 156048] Re: [Gutsy, Regression] Hibernate on Dell Inspiron 510m immediately re-awakes
Hi Leann, I have the same problem as Aaron. I try to do like you wrote before: I installed new kernel image, and(I decided by myself) to do the apgrade of a lot of packages. The result it was no so good, I mean the hibernate was working properly but I got this problems: 1. I could not finish the upgrade because the synaptic was unable to find python-brlapi. 2. Wireless connection was not working. 3. I got 4/5 system crash. 4. My laptop seems working slowly, also when I removed the new kernel image and reboot with the old one. Anyway thank you for your tip, I hope my experience can help your work. [Bug 176331] inotify displays when gksu screen is running
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gksu I was running gksu recently and while the screen was displaying the root password prompt a message came up (i think an inotify one) from the automatic updates applet. Public bug reported: I have a Thinkpad R50, running Kubuntu Gutsy. Suspend to Ram works in general, but not if my external USB-Hub is connected. It also seems to slow down hibernate, when it is connected. There are some messages indicating that the USB hub will not suspend.
