[Bug 99050] Dell 170Ls do not show a "thermometer bar" screen during start-up or shut-down procedure
Public bug reported: When booting up or shutting down Ubuntu 6.10 on our 120+ Dell 170L workstations, on a Live CD or after installation, the standard "thermometer bar" screen does not appear, only a blinking cursor in the top-lefthand corner. Everything works otherwise; it still transitions to the standard login screen when it's done booting up and powers off when it's done shutting down, it just doesn't show that it's doing anything. Ubuntu 5.10 did not have this problem, nor do our Dell210L workstations or Dell Inspiron 1300 laptops running Ubuntu 6.10. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Dell 170Ls do not show a "thermometer bar" screen during start-up or shut-down procedure https://launchpad.net/bugs/99050 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 99049] kubuntu feisty beta - installer chrashs on portition table
Public bug reported: Maybe it's the same bug, I do not know: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/43125 I downloaded Kubuntu 7.04 beta, burned and booted. I was installing it. The installer asked about use the whole HD to install (automatic) or just a partition(manual). I chose manual and the partition table appeared. I marked /dev/sda3 for formatting. When I tried to edit it (intended to format from reiserfs to ext3) the installer chrashes and this error appears: __ Traceback(most recent call last): file: /usr/lib/ubuquity/frontend/kde-ui.py line 1942, in on_partition_list_edit_activate index=selected[0] IndexError: list index out of range __ I think the error says the same as me. However I installed it sucessful. How? I edited the partition and after marked the checkbox of "Format?", then clicked next. I'm using Kubuntu now to post the bug :) There is something else that I'm not sure if it's a bug. I connected to the internet and apt-get works. Konversation (IRC) too. But konqueror does not browse any site. [Bug 99056] [feisty] Keyboard Stop button only pauses rhythmbox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox I just installed Feisty beta 1 over Edgy (erased edgy root partition, and left edgy /home untouched). I reconfigured the keyboard shortcuts, making sure the stop key was set for stopping the music, but nothing changed (restarted xorg to make sure the changes were applied). [Bug 99053] Problems installing 7.04 beta on Acer Aspire 3023 WLMi
Public bug reported: Feedback on Ubuntu 7.04 beta installation on an Acer Aspire 3023 WLMi notebook the dmesg and lspci outputs are from the desktop live CD Desktop: Goodness: Hardware is mostly supported, including display acceleration. Problems: Checking CD for defects - a result of 'checksum failures = 0' will not be comprehensible to a new user, consider Plain English - e.g. CDROM OK, CD Passed, etc. Wireless doesn't go (presumably a firmware issue) Keyboard not detected properly (UK not US layout) Display is 800x 600 in top left corner, nice image but repeated on bottom 200 pixels and rest of screen (right hand 480 pixels, top to bottom) black Took a screenshot but it doesn't show the error. Suggested fix: prevent repeated display (2 menus, cursors etc. are confusing!), or better, make the default resolution for the Aspire 3020 / 5020 1280x800. Very disturbing horizontal flickering noise on desktop logout Install screen is bigger than viewable area - can't see forward and back buttons - unwilling to proceed at this point (especially as I want to preserve my home and WinXP directories and not automatically partition)! install in safe graphics mode: fails while loading X, then hangs while attempting to load bcm43xx_mirocode5.fw Result: Aborted installation attempt. Server: Goodness: Apart from being VGA and a bit crufty to look at: Partitioning works Familiar options LAMP install works (main reason I install Ubuntu server). Badness Setup hangs on 'Configuring apt': Scanning the mirror... screen (Ctrl-Alt-Del reboot) is this because I am behind a port-blocking firewall? Or possibly because my network cable might have been a bit flaky... solution: don't configure network during installation! vi appears not to understand my Insert key, despite setting up the gb keyboard so editing /etc/network/interfaces was impossible. pico works. can't access apt servers: Err http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com feisty/main Translation-en_GB connection failed ping and wget www.google.com works Bit of a pain, because I want to put a desktop on my server installation! [Bug 82089] Re: gnome-terminal seg faults while upgrading to edgy
I did not attempt to provide a backtrace since that would require downgrading to Ubuntu 6.06 (which would probably require a reinstall and possibly reformatting my disk), building debugging packages for gnome- terminal 6.06, and then re-running the upgrade process. That would take all day, or maybe multiple days, and I don't have that kind of free time to have one of my two primary machines out of commission. If you read the bug report that I submitted to Gnome, and linked from this bug report, you will see that I gave them on Jan 16th exactly the same explanation for why I wasn't going to be able to obtain a backtrace. In this context, Sebastian Bacher's request on Jan 29th for me to obtain a backtrace seemed so ridiculous to me that I honestly thought it was generated by a robot, and nobody had actually read the details of my bug report. So I ignored it, waiting for a real person. -- gnome-terminal seg faults while upgrading to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/82089 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 99065] feature request: reviving ssh-agent
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openssh-client ssh-agent sometimes dies on me. this leaves the problem that any existing clients of that agent, as well as any processes that were forked prior to the death of the agent, will be unable to reach the agent. this is quite a nuisance, since it makes starting ssh-agent from pam (using libpam-ssh) less useful. i can't just resolve this by starting a new ssh-agent, because it will have a different authentication socket than what the prior processes expect. (those processes locate the ssh-agent via the SSH_AUTH_SOCK environment variable.) it would be nice to have an option to ssh-agent to connect to the same socket as the previous agent. fwiw, for now, i'm using this script to emualte the behavior i'd like: #!/bin/sh set -o errexit if [[ -z $SSH_AUTH_SOCK ]]; then >&2 echo "can't revive agent: SSH_AUTH_SOCK not set" exit 1 fi SSH_AUTH_DIR=$(dirname $SSH_AUTH_SOCK) if [ ! -d $SSH_AUTH_DIR ]; then mkdir $SSH_AUTH_DIR; fi rm -f $SSH_AUTH_SOCK chmod go-rwx $SSH_AUTH_DIR ssh-agent -a $SSH_AUTH_SOCK ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- feature request: reviving ssh-agent https://launchpad.net/bugs/99065 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 94095] Re: Ethernet interface not configured at boot time
I do not see this problem if fsck runs at boot time. This leads me to believe that this is a timing problem at boot time. I'm aware that changes were made to improve boot times in feisty. Since I never saw this problem in edgy, suspect the boot optimization(s) in feisty is causing the problem. I think the automatic fsck after 30 boots, gives the ethernet setup enough time to complete before other network steps are done. Others feisty users may not see this, because they are running on newer/faster hardware.
