[Bug 92156] mjpegtools cannot be installed on feisty

2007-03-14 Thread AndrewArchibald
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mjpegtools

mjpegtools depends on libdirectfb-0.9-24 but, on feisty,
libdirectfb-0.9-25 is installed. I'd suggest this is a bug in the
dependencies of mjpegtools- do they perhaps need updating to reflect the
new version number?

# aptitude install mjpegtools

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mjpegtools: Depends: libdirectfb-0.9-24 which is a virtual package.

# apt-cache search libdirectfb | grep ^libdirectfb
libdirectfb-0.9-25 - direct frame buffer graphics - shared libraries
libdirectfb-dev - direct frame buffer graphics library - development files
libdirectfb-extra - direct frame buffer graphics - extra providers
libdirectfb-bin - direct frame buffer graphics - binaries

I would really appreciate if someone could test a real package with some

easy, but we've been bitten by this once and I don't feel like testing
with main again :)

[Bug 68267] Re: x11-common loop asking 'Please enter an integer between -20 and 19.' at debconf medium or higher

2007-03-14 Thread Jyrki Muukkonen
My earlier patch (in this thread), replaces the contents of
validate_nice_value() function with a single line:

test "$1" -ge -20 -a "$1" -le 19 2> /dev/null

The patch I submitted was against the broken version (7.2.0ubuntu4 with
"$? -ne 1"), but the same idea works with the not-so-broken one.

BTW, the other {x11-common,xserver-xorg}.{prerm,postinst} scripts have
some evil looking expr's too.

[Bug 92160] gtk-gnutella thinks it's too old to start

2007-03-14 Thread Joolz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk-gnutella

gtk-gnutella version 0.96.1-0ubuntu1 in Dapper.

When started from the menu nothing seems to happen. This is echoed to
stdout:

*** ANCIENT VERSION DETECTED! ***

Sorry, this program is too ancient to run without
an explicit user action: If it's not possible to upgrade
you may edit the file

/home/myusername/.gtk-gnutella/config_gnet

and set the variable "ancient_version_force" to
"gtk-gnutella/0.96.1 (2006-02-22; GTK2; Linux i686)".

You will then be able to run this version forever, but
please consider upgrading, as Gnutella is an evolving
network in which ancient software is less useful or even
harmful!

*** EXITING ***

The solution works, but imo would be a good idea to do an ugrade on the
whole package in Dapper or do some minor upgrade that would set
ancient_version_force to the right value so that users who don't know a
terminal won't think the package itself is broken.

[Bug 92161] f-spot-screensaver problem

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Linux marc-laptop 2.6.20-10-generic #2 SMP Mon Mar 12 00:02:49 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
I use my favorite photo's as screensaver. This works fine until you use the
f-spot tool to view something else, for instance a photo someone mailed. Then
the connection is broken and it is impossible to restore the
f-spot-screensaver. If I want it back, I have to delete the f-spot-directory in
~/.gnome2 and re-import the photo's. Then I can make it work until...see above.
This is very frustrating. So I don't use it anymore. Hope it'll get fixed soon.

Re: [Bug 56692] Re: ATI radeon: poor 3D performance

2007-03-14 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I have a sort of regression in glxgears. the fps count is aroud 1000
and uset do be a bit less than 2000... I'm using the "ati" driver
without any additional option, and I have a mobility 9700, in feisty.
And again glxgears is using more than 60% of my cpu. What about your
cpu usage Johannes?

[Bug 92029] Re: apport ignores SIGABRT-generated cores

2007-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
For packaged programs, feisty's apport does not *ever* save core dumps,
because /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern now points to a pipe instead of a
file.

Apport does generate core files for unpackaged programs if ulimits
permit. I'll move the check for SIGABRT down after the core file
creation, so that SIGABRT will generate cores for those programs.

[Bug 91661] Re: Xorg radeon driver is slower in feisty, some gtk-buttons gets scrambled

I turned EXA off and it seems to work better when I don't use desktop effects.
But desktop effects (compiz?) is really buggy. Window contents not being drawn,
etc, etc.

So this is an upstream driver bug?

I've used Beryl on Edgy with better perfomance..

I can confirm this bug too.

In my case, setting tookbar to hide becomes in a white window.

As a workaround do this:

- Open gconf-editor
- Go to /apps/gthumb/ui
- Set the key "toolbar_visible"

Now it should work.

[Bug 92169] [Feisty] Atheros wireless broken by update on 13-03-07

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: madwifi-tools

I have a netgear WPN311 wireless card (atheros chipset) that was working
fine under network-manager.

However the feisty updates on 13/03 totally broke my wireless:

- First indication was that network-manager does not see my wireless card
- My wireless NIC no longer appears in the network configuration utility

2007-03-14 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
OK, with window contents not being drawn with window effects, you must turn one
option off.
I think it's that:

  Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"

If it's not the one, let me know and I'll find it.
Otherwise, it's also known that window contents are drawn slower with desktop
effects than normally for the radeon driver.

[Bug 46308] Re: edubuntu mouse pointer bad displayed

2007-03-14 Thread Gene Hoffler
I changed the color depth to 16bit in the xorg.conf file and rebooted.
This did not solve the problem. For a feature request, I previously
submitted an idea that the hardware detection process use the
information from the graphics card to determine what
compositing/rendering capabilities are possible. 16bit depth and slow
DRI are the only options for this ATI Rage Mobility P/M chip (from what
I've discovered).

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: feisty-session-splashes

I'm sorry, but I think the slick version might give many people the
completely wrong impression. It's way too much of a fallos, and I think
it needs to distance itself from that association.

[Bug 84717] Re: GPG output

2007-03-14 Thread Vladimir Stefan
The output you have all mentioned from GPG is not an error - it
signifies that GPG has verified the integrity of the downloaded archive
(meaning the archive is not corrupt). The Kubuntu-Upgrader wizard will
_not_ continue if GPG returns an error (if GPG cannot verify the archive
against the signature, in the case that the archive is corrupt).

[Bug 92171] Sound incredibly quiet, alsamixer broken after kernel upgrade

2007-03-14 Thread covox
Public bug reported:

I'm currently running Feisty on a Toshiba Satellite A100, which uses the
snd-hda-intel ALSA driver. After upgrading from 2.6.20-8-generic to
2.6.20-9-generic, the sound is an order of magnitude quieter; turning
both the hardware and software volume controls up to maximum gives a
barely-audible whisper. When viewing alsamixer, several sliders are
missing or inactive, including the "master" slider (which merely has an
on/mute switch instead of an adjustable sound level).

>From what I can see, the 2.6.20-10 upgrade still contains the broken
driver. Aside from the odd crackle when using SDL_mixer/OpenAL
applications, 2.6.20-8 had no problems handling the sound card.

[Bug 92169] Re: [Feisty] Atheros wireless broken by update on 13-03-07

2007-03-14 Thread steve s.
Ok, This was because I updated the kernel but not the restricted modules
(they weren't available at the time...)

After rebooting into the old kernel and re-updating, the new restricted
modules were installed and my wireless now works fine again...

It seems from the forums that other people were also experiencing the
same problem - perhaps there should be a warning if you update the
kernel but not the restricted modules (if you have them installed)? I
know this has a pretty simple solution, but it can still totally break
things, like the net connection, which can be a somewhat painful
experience!!

[Bug 91977] Re: firefox crashes when switching tab

2007-03-14 Thread Norbert M
The file created by Firefox was not CoreDump.gz but
_usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash, it was in /var/crash.

Hope it helps.

[Bug 92175] Option to turn off touch pad when a mouse is attached

2007-03-14 Thread Jens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

It would be great if gnome-volume-properties could offer an option to
automatically turn on/off the touchpad when a mouse is attached/removed.

Today i'ts possible to specify a command to run when a mouse is plugged
in. I use:

  synclient TouchpadOff=1

But the touchpad will remain turned off when you remove the mouse.

Re: [Bug 90292] Re: 6.10 amd64 installer hangs

2007-03-14 Thread Witold Krakowski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67130 ***

You have to add edgy-proposed repository to /etc/apt/sources.list and issue
sudo apt-get update and then install the package. Hope that helps.
