Hello
I really dont see why you have to install 10.10. 10.04 is a long time
support and very stable release. You can just stay with it for now. If it
aint broke, dont fix it ;)

Re: [Ubuntu-BD] upgrading ubuntu to 10.10

2010-10-17 Thread Nasimul Haque
Linux distributions are meant to be a whole package. Every piece of
software is related in a distribution. A single distro is very much
tied into all the software/packages it comes with. Therefore when you
update a distro to a newer version almost all of the installed
software gets updated with it. Even some obsolete or older software
get removed from the system. If you are already set to a version of a
distro. And it is hard to have a decent internet connection. You do
not need to update your distro version. One of my family member is
still using 8.04. He is very happy with his OS.

Long story short. If you do not upgrade to 10.10 now, there is no harm
in it. In fact, I am thinking of skipping 10.10 in my machine also.
Some of the people I know in this list will skip it too.

Re: [Ubuntu-BD] upgrading ubuntu to 10.10

2010-10-17 Thread M. Adnan Quaium
Which forum are you talking about? http://forum.linux.org.bd? Can you please
give us the link of the post where you've been asked? I did not find any
post there.

I am using 10.04 and hope to continue with it until 12.04 (the next LTS).
Canonical will provide updates for 10.04 till 2013. So if you use 10.04,
that does not mean your system will not be up updated. If you really want to
keep your system update, then always run the update manager.

However, Upgrading to a new version can lead you into miscellaneous
problems, as the new release does not know how much modification you did to
your system. So the process will not be 100% smooth (even if you have a high
speed internet connection). I would suggest to install a fresh Ubuntu 10.10,
instead of upgrading the old one.
