I am using 10.04 and hope to continue with it until 12.04 (the next LTS). Canonical will provide updates for 10.04 till 2013. So if you use 10.04, that does not mean your system will not be up updated. If you really want to keep your system update, then always run the update manager. However, Upgrading to a new version can lead you into miscellaneous problems, as the new release does not know how much modification you did to your system. So the process will not be 100% smooth (even if you have a high speed internet connection). I would suggest to install a fresh Ubuntu 10.10, instead of upgrading the old one. -- M.
