[Touch-packages] [Bug 1977564] [NEW] wireplumber conflicts with pipewire-media-session & needs fixing

2022-06-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

This issue was reported on IRC and we should probably fix it before
installing wireplumber by default so I'm setting the block-proposed tag.

https://i.imgur.com/L5VFZO8.png

wireplumber is apparently too forceful in how it enables PipeWire. Both
Arch Linux and Debian had to

https://archlinux.org/news/undone-replacement-of-pipewire-media-session-
with-wireplumber/

Is it necessary for wireplumber to conflict with pipewire-media-session?

Should we add Replaces?

What files does pipewire-media-session need to clean up when it is
removed?

See https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-remote-
desktop/-/commit/52799cfd for an example of how files that aren't
technically conffiles can be removed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1972654] Re: [security review] Sync policykit-1 0.120-6 (main) from Debian experimental

2022-06-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Marc, the current Debian experimental version supports both PKLA and JS
policy files. Are you saying that you only want one style to be
supported in an Ubuntu release?

Status in policykit-1 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Please sync policykit-1 0.120-6 (main) from Debian experimental

  Changelog entries since current kinetic version 0.105-33:
  https://tracker.debian.org/media/packages/p/policykit-1/changelog-0.120-6

  In particular, see the 0.120-4 changelog entry.

  I am filing a bug for Security Team review.
  Previously, Debian and Ubuntu developers agreed to keep using
  the last version of policykit before it switched to using JavaScript rules.

  But that was years ago. I believe Debian & Ubuntu are the only distros
  to have opted out of the new policykit. It is harder to maintain
  the old style rules when upstream rules use the new format. And it is
  a challenge to backport security and other bugfixes from the new
  series, without making mistakes or missing important details.

  There was a proposal to use duktape instead of mozjs for the JavaScript
  interpreter but I don't think that's been merged yet.

  It appears the Debian maintainer is considering switching Debian to the
  updated version in time for the next Debian Stable release (so uploading
  to unstable later this year).

  My requested deadline is August 25, Ubuntu 22.10 Feature Freeze.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1976371] Re: SRU for evolution-data-server 3.44.2

2022-06-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Steve, thank you for your thorough review.

The wiki link pointed to comment 3 on Discourse but it should be comment
28 so I've updated the link on the wiki page. evolution-data-server
isn't part of GNOME "core" but it is part of "core-deps" (but several of
the "core-deps" aren't even maintained by GNOME and fall outside the
intent of Ubuntu's GNOME microrelease exception).

https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/scope-of-gnome-mru/18041/28
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/tree/master/elements/core-deps

On the other hand, the evolution **app** isn't considered part of core
GNOME currently nor is it formally included in the GNOME microrelease
exception.

One more point: evolution-data-server does show up in the list that GNOME
formally releases as part of GNOME 42
https://people.debian.org/~fpeters/gnome/debian-gnome-42-status.html
which pulls from
https://download.gnome.org/teams/releng/42.2/versions
which is built from
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/releng/-/blob/master/tools/versions-stable

Dylan, thank you very much for your patch. I'm going to go ahead and
upload pipewire-media-session and wireplumber to Ubuntu 22.10 now.
Please see the attached patch also to apply on top of your patch.

After this issue is fixed in Debian, I need to backport the fix to
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS since some people will attempt to switch to and away
from pipewire there.

2022-06-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I am filing this temporary bug split off from LP: #1977564 to allow
wireplumber and pipewire-media-session to migrate first.

There is an issue with people upgrading to Ubuntu 22.10 since pipewire-
media-session will need be updated before it's attempted to install
wireplumber.

I think the simplest fix is to backport the fix to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
which is before the metapackage changes in Ubuntu 22.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1971538] Re: My machine as Wi-Fi Hotspot broken after upgrade to 22.04

2022-06-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
As a workaround, open the installed app "Advanced Network Configuration"
Select Hotspot
Click the Gear button
Try changing Wi-Fi Security settings to something that works for you.

I was unable to duplicate your bug with 2 clients, an Android phone and
an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS install. Both were able to connect to the hotspot
without a problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1864215] Re: Please add webp loader to gdk-pixbuf

2022-06-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
webp-pixbuf-loader was just packaged for Ubuntu 22.10 (which will be
released in October). If you install that package, you can open webp
files in eog, etc.

** Package changed: gdk-pixbuf (Ubuntu) => webp-pixbuf-loader (Ubuntu)

   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

  Bug 1318327 covers this issue in eye of gnome, and bug 1407644 in

  python3-gpg 1.16.0-unknown version is incomparable, dependencies

Status in gpgme1.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gpgme1.0 package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
  The python version of the gpgme version contains "unknown" and is
  therefore not PEP440 order compatible.

  See this example:

# pip3 freeze | grep gpg
gpg===1.16.0-unknown

# pip3 install pstore
...
Successfully installed gpg-1.10.0
Successfully installed pstore-2.0.0

# pip3 freeze | grep gpg
gpg==1.10.0

  Key takeways from that example:

  - pstore depends on gpg>=1.10

  - 1.16 SHOULD be higher than 1.10

  - pip installs 1.10 even though 1.16 exists

  - the triple-= (gpg===1.16.0-unknown) means that the version exists,
  but cannot be version compared:
  https://peps.python.org/pep-0440/#arbitrary-equality

  Suggested fix:

  - replace the '-' from `gpgme-config --version` "1.16.0-unknown" with
  a '+'; that will compare as expected;

  - fix so "-unknown" isn't appended.

  Apparently, this is caused by insufficient fixes in
0001-avoid-identifying-as-beta.patch

  I've attached a FIXED version, which should fix things.

  Before:

$ autoreconf -ivf

$ grep Generated.*gpgme configure
# Generated by GNU Autoconf 2.71 for gpgme 1.16.0-unknown.

  After:

$ quilt push
Applying patch 0001-avoid-identifying-as-beta-FIXED.patch

$ autoreconf -ivf

$ grep Generated.*gpgme configure
# Generated by GNU Autoconf 2.71 for gpgme 1.16.0.

  Versions:

  $ lsb_release -a 2>/dev/null| grep Codename
  Codename: jammy

  $ apt-cache policy python3-gpg  | grep Installed
Installed: 1.16.0-1.2ubuntu4

  Cheers,
  Walter Doekes
  OSSO B.V.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1982898] Re: CVE-2021-46829: Buffer overwrite in io-gif-animation.c composite_frame() in gdk-pixbuf

Title:
  CVE-2021-46829: Buffer overwrite in  io-gif-animation.c
  composite_frame() in gdk-pixbuf

Status in gdk-pixbuf package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in gdk-pixbuf source package in Focal:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * A buffer overwrite exists in gdk-pixbuf's thumbnailer.

   * The GIF loader runs out of memory with specifically crafted files
  with bad frame data (and images with its sizes) over the integer
  limit.

   * After gdk-pixbuf-thum runs out of memory, other apps can and on low
  RAM systems like my old iMac, the system can completely run out of
  memory.

   * Or, in other ways, bad gif files in other applications can open the
  door for exploits.

   * Any app using gdk-pixbuf is affected, mainly file managers and
  image viewers.

  [Test Plan]

   * Take the POC's - they can be found in the issue in the GNOME repo

   * Open them in an application that uses gdk-pixbuf. I have managed to
produce reactions with:
   - Nautilus, GNOME's file manager
   - Nemo, Cinnamon's file manager
   - Thunar, XFCE's file manager, which has its own thumbnailere (tumbler) that
also inevitably fails and crashes
   - PCManFM, LXDE's file manager which straight up crashes
   - Caja, MATE's file manager causes libpixbufloader-gif to segfault (app
still usable, no memory issues)
   - Eye of GNOME (eog) triggers the segfault in syslog
   - Eye of MATE (eom) segfaults

   * If you or the system couldn't tell something is wrong, cat
  /var/log/syslog and enjoy the segfaults or out of memory warnings or
  even kernel spam.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The patch itself is simple, but since gdk-pixbuf is often used with
  GTK apps a mistake here could be problematic.

   * It is possible, and has happened in the past (which has been
  patched) that other bad GIFs can cause other crashes.

   * That patch is essentially overflow checks - changes with GLib
  (GNOME's, not to be confused with glibc) and the functions used in not
  only the patch but all of gdk-pixbuf can cause problems

   * Other failures to properly handle GIFs and broken or intentionally
  tampered GIFs can continue and always will open the door for security
  holes for other bugs

  * Again, overall a simple patch but as long as the GIFs remain handled
  properly, and no changes to the GLib functions are made and to other
  apps that use gdk-pixbuf (and assuming are not affected by the change
  and still work), the patch does not have much regression potential.

  [Other Info]

   * Besides Buffer overwrite/overflow issues, as aforementioned out of memory
errors can happen.
   * Files attached are examples or crashes
   * Again, all apps using gdk-pixbuf are affected

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1983605] [NEW] exim4 autopkgtest failure on ppc64el with libx11 1.8

2022-08-04 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I'm just filing a tracker bug for this issue but am not working on it
myself.

exim4's autopkgtest fails with the new libx11 on kinetic on the ppc64el
architecture.

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/e/exim4/kinetic/ppc64el

This test doesn't fail on Debian. Ubuntu's ppc64el is slightly different
than Debian's (we enable -O3 for instance only on that architecture by
default).

https://ci.debian.net/packages/e/exim4/testing/ppc64el/

This issue is blocking other packages from migrating out of kinetic-
proposed.

** Affects: libx11 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
 Status: New

The upstream Chrome bug suggests that this also affects Windows. That's
surprising to me because this issue (or a similar one is also affecting
our Firefox file dialogs).

  * Impact
  The google contacts integration with the GNOME component will stop working
since it relies on an API which is going to be shutdown

  * Testcase
  - use evolution
  - add a google account
  - go the contacts section

  The contacts stored on the google account should be listed, no error
  should be displayed

  * Regression potential
  The patch changes the google contact backend so any potential issue is likely
to be with contacts integration.

  I opened Evolution today and a red banner appeared on top with the
  following message:

  > Failed to connect address book “ : Contacts”

  > Invalid request URI or header, or unsupported nonstandard parameter:
  Contacts API is being deprecated. Migrate to People API to retain
  programmatic access to Google Contacts. See
  https://developers.google.com/people/contacts-api-migration.

  I found the upstream bug report for this[0], which references the commit[1]
that fixes it.
  However, that commit is in release 3.42.0, whereas Ubuntu 21.10 currently has
3.40.4-1. Is it possible to backport this commit so that Evolution will
continue to work properly?

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  The test of bolt fails with the new version due to a crash:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-impish/impish/amd64/b/bolt/20210917_063952_c9336@/log.gz

  ...
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

  The bolt test really uses umockdev, d/t/control has gir1.2-umockdev-1.0 and
  python3-dbusmock and the new version causes this.

  Retrying autopkgtest locally with no, all and just umockdev from proposed
  and it seems reproducible.
   - impish-release - works
   - impish-all-proposed - crashes
   - impish-release + umockdev+libc6 from proposed - crashes

  Repro:
  $ umockdev-wrapper /usr/libexec/installed-tests/bolt/test-power

  FYI:
  Downgrading to umockdev 0.16.2-1 in the same environment does not
  eliminate the issue. So it might happen at the bolt test-build time.

  Debian has the same issue in:
  https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/testing/amd64/b/bolt/15587717/log.gz

  The new mockdev fails to create /sys/bus which is requested by the test.
  From there the error path is what crashes, but the root cause is why we enter
  the error-path in the first place.

  One should be aware, this fail is "normal" if the environment is not mocked.
  Even in the good case the different calls with/without umockdev lead to
  exactly the same crash.
  # good
  $ umockdev-wrapper /usr/libexec/installed-tests/bolt/test-power
  # same crash as the new version has with umockdev-wrapper
  $ gdb /usr/libexec/installed-tests/bolt/test-power

  This is based on ldpreload.
  $ cat /usr/bin/umockdev-wrapper
  #!/bin/sh
  # Wrapper program to preload the libumockdev library, so that test programs
can
  # set $UMOCKDEV_DIR for redirecting sysfs and other queries to a test bed.
  exec env LD_PRELOAD=libumockdev-preload.so.0:$LD_PRELOAD "$@"

  Gut feeling: it seems the mocking no more happens, and due to that
  it runs into the non-mocked crash

  Debugging with that:
  $ pull-lp-source bolt
  $ cd bolt-0.9.1/tests
  $ gdb /usr/libexec/installed-tests/bolt/test-power
  (gdb) set environment LD_PRELOAD libumockdev-preload.so.0
  (gdb) b mock_sysfs_init
  (gdb) run

  With that we can see that while the crash is somewhere inside g_warning the
  reason is in the g_mkdir failing with the new umockdev.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987304] [NEW] gtk3 fails to build from source in kinetic

2022-08-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

gtk3 has build test failures in kinetic but not in Debian Unstable.

(It built on riscv64 because we skip the build tests there).

My initial impression is that this is a reftest issue. The reftests are
frustrating because dependency changes can lead to images that vary by
as little as one pixel and fail the test. And upstream doesn't provide a
precise list of dependency versions they are using either.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978999] Re: pipewire-media-session needs to be updated before wireplumber is installed

2022-08-22 Thread Jeremy Bicha
The current thinking is that we can avoid needing to do an Ubuntu 22.04
LTS SRU by handling the wireplumber symlink change in a preinst script
instead.

I'm going to close this issue so that it's no longer holding up Ubuntu
metapackage updates.

Bug description:
  I am filing this temporary bug split off from LP: #1977564 to allow
  wireplumber and pipewire-media-session to migrate first.

  There is an issue with people upgrading to Ubuntu 22.10 since
  pipewire-media-session will need be updated before it's attempted to
  install wireplumber.

  I think the simplest fix is to backport the fix to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  which is before the metapackage changes in Ubuntu 22.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987624] [NEW] Temporarily hold evolution-data-server in -proposed

But if evolution-data-server smoothly migrates, I fear that several

So I'm filing a blocker bug for now.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1987920] [NEW] indicator-datetime fails to build with default gcc (gcc-12)

2022-08-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

indicator-datetime fails to build from source in Kinetic with the

To allow the package to build so that we can complete the evolution-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1983794] Re: Evolution not deleting autosave files

2022-09-11 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Lindsay, this bug isn't fixed. The upstream bug was closed. Gitlab uses
closed for both fixed and wont-fix bug statuses so Launchpad reports it
as "Fix Released" which is correct some of the time.

The bug is still open for Ubuntu's libcanberra package.

Bug description:
  Running Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. Evolution v3.44.1-0ubuntu1
  was installed with the distribution on a new system and received
  settings imported from an earlier version on another computer.

  When composing an email, if the process takes long enough an autosave
  file is created as ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-
  composer.autosave-xx ("xx" is a random 6 character string).
  When the email is successfully sent, the autosave file SHOULD be
  deleted. It's not. When evolution is shut down and restarted I'm asked
  if I want to recover an unfinished email. Answering No to this will
  delete the autosave file, but otherwise it persists and the recovery
  query recurs the next time I open evolution.

  Other people are having the same issue, see
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/1972. The Gnome
  people aren't dealing with it, perhaps considering it a distro-
  specific bug.

  On a system used by many people this is a potential security issue.

Title:
  [WSL] Prepare kinetic for common snap use cases

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Users of Ubuntu WSL might be surprised by unexpected dependencies when
  dealing with snaps. The Ubuntu WSL development team is looking for
  ways to let early adopters to experiment some snapd support in
  Kinetic, while still providing the most seamless experience for them.
  Tests done in WSL instances showed surprises that we should mitigate
  soon.

  Some examples are:

  * Sublime Text and Sublime Merge apps silently depend on libgl1. This
  seems a bug which we didn't yet figure out how to fix in the snaps
  themselves. Being such hidden dependencies, we'd expect to soon find
  similar cases as those.

  * Flutter snap provides all dependencies and runs without issues, but
  apps compiled by Flutter requires libgl1, libegl1 and libgtk-3-0
  present in the system during development. Attempting to just run any
  app compiled with Flutter during development will result in crash due
  those libs not being found. Most likely, once package as snaps, those
  apps will behave as expected, if the packager lists dependencies
  properly. The issue reported here affects the app developer
  experience.

  One solution for those problems is seeding for Ubuntu WSL
  specifically:

  - libgl1
  - libegl1
  - libgtk-3-0

  Experienced Ubuntu users would figure out how to overcome those issues
  very quickly, but we should expect that most of Ubuntu WSL userbase
  won't fit in that persona.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1999098] Re: Update glib to 2.74.3

2022-12-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --
  There is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.74 series

  The current release in Ubuntu 22.10 is 2.74.0

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/2.74.3/NEWS

  Test Case 1
  ---
  glib has an extensive test suite.

  Failing tests will fail the build.
  This update will also trigger a lot of autopkgtests.

  Ensure that there aren't autopgktest regressions triggered by this
  update and that the builds complete successfully

  Test Case 2
  ---
  Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the desktop that
you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the desktop, that's already
tested GLib extensively. But also run applications like the terminal, the file
browser and epiphany-browser

  Test Case 3 (Extra)
  --
  Install gnome-characters 43.1. (This is being SRU'd, but the version from
Lunar also works.)
  Open the Characters app.
  Use the search feature to search for "moose"
  A moose emoji should show up. This is one of the new Emoji 15.
  https://blog.emojipedia.org/whats-new-in-unicode-15-0/

  With glib 2.74.0, the moose emoji won't be searchable but it does show
  in the Animals category.

  What Could Go Wrong
  ---
  This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could be
affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some functions
returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime implications, up to
the system simply crashing all the time.

  Other Info
  --
  Unicode 15 enablement was granted a User Interface Freeze Exception for
Ubuntu 22.10: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1989626

  glib and gnome-characters are the only 2 late pieces that the Ubuntu
  Desktop team plans to SRU for Ubuntu 22.10.
+
+ Ubuntu 23.04 has 2.74.2 with the commits from 2.74.3 backported so they
+ are functionally equivalent. Ubuntu 23.04 will get newer glib versions
+ before 23.04 is released.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1999098] Re: Update glib to 2.74.3

2023-01-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
The autopkgtests all pass now.

I installed glib 2.74.3-0ubuntu1, restarted my computer and ensured that
epiphany-browser, the file browser and the terminal all appear to work
correctly.

I also installed gnome-characters 43.1-0ubuntu1 and verified that I was
able to search for the moose emoji and copy it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2003387] Re: ubuntu-desktop-minimal should depend on cryptsetup, lvm2

2023-01-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Marking all packages as 'auto' like that is not supported.

Besides cryptsetup and lvm2, there are several other packages that are
available for the installer and only kept on the system if they are
needed:

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-
seeds/+git/ubuntu/tree/ship-live

The installer also includes support for many languages but only English
and the configured language is kept on the installed system.

We will likely close this bug since this is intended behavior.

  (and windows leaked)

  [ Test case ]

  1. Open evolution, and start to compose a new email
  2. Write enough text and wait few minutes so that this command returns a file
 ls -l ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-composer.autosave-*
  3. Close the email composer window, hitting "Do not save"
  4. ls -l ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-composer.autosave-* should list
no files
  5. Opening and closing again evolution should not ask to restore the previous
email

  [ Regression potential ]

  No sounds could be performed during some UI actions

  ---

  Please merge procps 2:3.3.17-5 (main) from Debian unstable

Status in procps package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  This requires a merge because there are changes in the Ubuntu version
  not present in the Debian version.

  Justification of new diff:
- There is a new diff, which is an autopkgtest for the stack limit issue
  that was seen in bug 1874824. This test has been submitted to
  Debian so the patch can be dropped if they accept it.

  Justification of dropped patches
- missing_potfiles_in: Debian has now added this code in POTFILES.in
  so the patch is no longer needed
- pmap_test: This patch disables some tests that are not causing
  any problems. These tests are run in Debian so should be run
  in Ubuntu as well
- top_config_file_bwcompat: Debian has applied this code upstream so
  the patch is no longer needed
- tar-version: Debian has applied this code upstream so the patch is
  no longer needed
- stack_limit: Debian has applied this code upstream so the patch is
  no longer needed

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004116] [NEW] Merge procps 2:4.0.2-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2023-01-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Please merge procps 2:4.0.2-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Several Debian packages now Build-Depend on libproc2-dev

The Ubuntu delta:
  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/sysctl.d (Ubuntu-specific):
  + 10-console-messages.conf: stop low-level kernel messages on console.
  + 10-kernel-hardening.conf: add the kptr_restrict setting
  + 10-ipv6-privacy.conf: add a file to sysctl.d to apply the defaults
for IPv6 privacy extensions for interfaces. (LP: #176125, #841353)
  + 10-magic-sysrq.conf: Disable most magic sysrq by default, allowing
critical sync, remount, reboot functions. (LP: #194676, LP: #1025467)
  + 10-network-security.conf: enable rp_filter.
  + 10-ptrace.conf: describe new PTRACE setting.
  + 10-zeropage.conf: safe mmap_min_addr value for graceful fall-back.
for armhf, and arm64.
  + 10-qemu.conf.s390x for qemu.
- debian/rules: Fix cross build
- ignore_eaccess.patch: If we get eaccess when opening a sysctl file for
  writing, don't error out. Otherwise package upgrades can fail,
  especially in containers.
  - Adjust logic due to rc no longer being propagated (LP: #1903351)
- ignore_erofs.patch: Same as ignore_eaccess but for the case where
  part of /proc is read/only.
  - Adjust logic due to rc no longer being propagated (LP: #1903351)
- debian/procps.maintscript: handle migration of link-protect.conf from
  /etc to /usr.
- Add basic autopkgtest to validate sysctl-defaults (LP: #1962038)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004241] Re: Update to glib >= 2.75.1

2023-01-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I was using the latest version of glib 2.75 as packaged in Debian
experimental for a few days, but my sound broke. See
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/issues/2769

There probably are other things that broke because of that behavior
change.

Also, recent changes made glib break on other architectures (endian
issue?) which means it would be stuck in lunar-proposed until that is
fixed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1965189] Re: Add session migration for GNOME 42 dark theme

  I suggest we use dh-migrations/session-migration to do this from

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1964442] Re: [jammy Regression] signing a changes file in gnome-terminal sends keys to the terminal

2022-03-18 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I experienced a similar issue today. I ran `snap install app` in my
terminal. It popped up a PolicyKit login window and my terminal started
filling with empty input lines.

Around the same time, I had this in my journal log repeatedly:

gnome-shell: Object 0x5614373df110 of type IBusText has been finalized
while it was still owned by gjs, this is due to invalid memory
management.

Therefore, I'm reassigning to gnome-shell and ibus. I don't think this
issue is specific to gnome-terminal. You might eventually see it with a
different terminal.

I am using the default Ubuntu session on Wayland.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1966127] Re: ubuntu-desktop-minimal pulls gnome-session which is in universe

2022-03-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I think this is because ubuntu-desktop-minimal depends on gdm3.
gdm3 Recommends gnome-session | x-session-manager

While ubuntu-session provides x-session-manager, apt is trying the first
choice.

It looks like no official Ubuntu flavor besides the default desktop
version uses gdm3, so it should be safe for us to just add ubuntu-
session first in that recommends list.

  All webkit using apps for affected users display a blank screen.

  Original Bug Report
  ---
  Evolution has suddenly stopped displaying message contents on the last 24h.
Starting it up from the command line shows this output:

  ```
  EGLDisplay Initialization failed: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED
  Cannot create EGL context: invalid display (last error: EGL_SUCCESS)
  ```

  I don't know if it's related, but googling around shows some webkitgtk
  hits on this error.

  The email contents are however clickable. They're just not rendered to
  screen (see attached file).

  Deleting the evolution folders from `~/.config`, `~/.cache` and
  `~/.local/share` does not help.

  Email accounts are all google, configured through gnome online
  accounts.

  Workaround #1
  -
  You can run the app from the command line with
  WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 evolution
  (Replace evolution with the name of the webkit app you are trying to use)

  Workaround #2
  -
  Log out.
  Select your name on the login screen.
  Click the gear button and choose Ubuntu on Xorg.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1864310] Re: "Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key (2018) " string is not translatable

2022-04-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I think this is more or less a name and names often aren't translated.
That string is not from software-properties itself, but perhaps
software-properties could use its own string for this label.

  Navigating with arrow keys broken for RTL text

Status in Pango:
  Unknown
Status in pango1.0 package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  RTL text renders fine, and navigating within a line with the arrow
  keys works as expected. However, using the left and right arrow keys
  to move to the next or previous lines is broken.

  To reproduce:
  1. Open gnome-text-editor and paste the following into its window:
  זוהי השורה הראשונה
  זוהי השורה השנייה
  זוהי השורה השלישית
  make sure it is aligned to the right, as it should.
  2. place the caret in the middle of the 2nd line.
  3. With the arrows, move the caret to the left of the line (its end).
  4. Press the left arrow key one more time.
  Expected results:
  1. The caret moves to the right hand side of the next line.
  Actual results:
  1. The caret moves to the left hand side of the previous line.

  The same issue exists in reverse: if you move the caret with the arrow
  keys to the right of the line (its beginning) and press the right
  arrow key one more time, it will move to the right hand side of the
  next line instead of the left hand side of the previous line, as it
  should.

  This make navigation in RTL files highly uncomfortable.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1966418]

2022-04-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
A very important detail:
Ubuntu builds webkit2gtk with -DUSE_WPE_RENDERER=OFF
This was done because we would need Ubuntu Security Team sign off to get
wpewebkit in to Ubuntu's 'main' archive section instead of in 'universe'.

It looks like this bug is specific to that config.

Copying from the mesa bug:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/6236#note_1329402

"The issue is that WebKitGTK's internal Wayland compositor needs to
implement zwp_linux_dmabuf_v1 rather than relying on
EGL_WL_bind_wayland_display.

In the meantime, we could revert the part which makes us strictly rely
on dmabuf on the Mesa client side, and keep both in parallel for a
little bit. But WebKitGTK should really be implementing this interface."

  Evolution has suddenly stopped displaying message contents on the last 24h.
Starting it up from the command line shows this output:

  ```
  EGLDisplay Initialization failed: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED
  Cannot create EGL context: invalid display (last error: EGL_SUCCESS)
  I don't know if it's related, but googling around shows some webkitgtk
  hits on this error.
  The email contents are however clickable. They're just not rendered to
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1959508] Re: enable BMFF support in exiv2
Status in exiv2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Bug description:
  On https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/exiv2 I see that
  Ubuntu 22.04 currently includes exiv2 0.27.3
  Exiv2 v0.27.5 includes support for Canon *.CR3 image files. The CR3
  file format has been the Canon camera-raw file format since mid 2018,
  and is probably one of the most common raw image file formats today.
  Applications such as darktable, amongst others, use exiv2 to extract
  image metadata, thumbnails and previews, and can only open CR3 files
  when linked with exiv2 0.27.5 or later.
  Note that exiv2 0.27.5 needs to be built with -DEXIV2_ENABLE_BMFF=On
  to enable *.CR3 support.
  Would it be possible to get Exiv2 v0.27.5 with BMFF support enabled
  included in Ubuntu 22.04?
  Note that a similar request exists for Debian in
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1000788
  Missing font on the Flutter installer UI in WSL
Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
Bug description:
  Since in WSL we don't have a real complete snap setup and the Flutter
  UI sets the window title by using GTK+ API, it's necessary to make the
  fonts-ubuntu package available in the system to avoid the bad user
  experience of not being able to display the window title.
