[techtalk] winmodem sound driver
I have a PC-Chips MB with a winmodem onboard, I visited their website and asked an engineer to please provide me with a driver, I was actually shocked when he produced a driver for my sound card and my modem, trouble is when I try to load it I get the message that it was compiled with 2.2.2-5 and I am running 2.2.12 What can I do?? _ SignUP For your CorelCity FREE email at http://www.corelcity.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org
Re: [techtalk] winmodem sound driver
I know, so was I, I bought this system from the linux systems section on pricewatch.com. Only to find that while it shipped with RH 6.0, hardly any of the hardware was linux compatable. I got a good price so have been struggling with slapping old hard ware I've got hanging around. Last night out of sheer frustration I went to PC-chips website and reamed them out Today in my email a .o file :-) I don't want to downgrade, as a matter of fact I just upgraded to 2.2.13 tonight, (what a rush to sucessfully recompile the kernel) So I really don't want to downgrade. RE: [techtalk] winmodem sound driver
#1. I am a single mom, and full time college student on a very limited budget, the fact that I was able to swing a new system at all when my old p100 bit the dust is no small miracle. #2. Wanting to give linux a whirl I wanted to purchase a box that would be linux compliant. I went to pricewatch.com and purchased from their linux systems section this box that is very non linux compliant. 3. I am simply trying to make the best of a bad situation without spending any more money. I'd like a solution to my issue, or a truthful information that it can't be resolved, not advice that I can't afford to take. Re: [techtalk] winmodem sound driver
Oh, RH was not pre-installed, it came on a CD as the operating system for the box. They said they could not install linux on the system as it was too difficult. What they should have said is that it is not compatable. I could not get a decent video display on RH so when offered an opportunity to try corel's debian I jumped on it. Corel allows me to at least get 16m colors and 8x6 resolution. _ SignUP For your CorelCity FREE email at http://www.corelcity.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org
[techtalk] truncated file names
Ok, here I am back again with yet another issue. I downloaded and compiled the latest kernel because it has a driver for my sound pro wanna be sound card. I am sure I chose a wrong option someplace along the way because now my long file names are truncated. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Which option I must have selected to cause this to happen (so I don't do it again) and last, is there a place a person can go on the net to read a concise explination for all the options given during a kernel rebuild? Re: [techtalk] truncated file names
My windows and linux file names are truncated, but you're right about how I mount windows, at first after I recompiled windows was not automatically mounted so I edited fstab and at that time changed it to msdos from vfat. would that affect my linux files as well? _ SignUP For your CorelCity FREE email at http://www.corelcity.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org
Re: [techtalk] truncated file names
Ok, I changed the mount for c drive to vfat, and it fixed the truncation issue, but now c drive is not automatically mounted in my file manager on boot. _ SignUP For your CorelCity FREE email at http://www.corelcity.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org
Re: [techtalk] truncated file names
Ok folks, thanks to all of you I have it fixed, I had to recompile the kernel and be sure that vfat support was included, somehow I'd left it out. Along the way Someone suggested I run make xconfig instead of make config, this was incredibly helpful because of the graphical display and its' popup help menus that explain each option. Now I not only can browse to all my sections, but I've been able to get the best resolution I've ever gotten off of a linux boot!! I can't seem to run the modconf though, for some reason there are only net modules there. _ SignUP For your CorelCity FREE email at http://www.corelcity.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linuxchix.org

Re: [techtalk] Corel Linux
I am currently running Corel, I love it, I started with RH 6.0, but being a corel buff, could not wait to get my hands on it, I"ve only been using linux for not quite two weeks, but corel compared to rh is a huge differenceI prefer corel so far... Good luck and enjoy, oh...don't install it to a dos drive, and don't expect your video to work right away...flawlessly, you've got to right click on your desktop and select the last entry, and play with the settings to get it at the best resolution and refresh rate I get the best resolution ever from corel, but it took some playing with the color options to work it out. Also, visit the corel newsgroups...lots of folks there to help if you run into trouble, but with the delux version, you get free support, so perhaps you'll be helping us!! For the first time ever, I was able to hear an mp3 play, how did I accomplish this?? well, while in kvirc I noticed if I right click I get a play option, so I went into options and found the area to specify a player, and I put mpg123 as the player, then right click...select people are are strange, and hit ok..and it started playing!! It was not very loud though, so I clicked on my application launcher to set the sliders, and bam.as soon as kvirc is not in the frontthe sound stops. Now it won't play at allbut I bet if I reboot, it would play...as long as I did not try to do anything else. any thoughts??
