[Talks] Using Skype on an N82

2011-01-05 Thread ANDY COLLINS
I have a sim only contract with T-Mobile in the UK. I'll be in Morocco for a
couple of weeks, and need to keep in touch. I know Skype can be used with TALKS
on a mobile, but have no experience of what I need to do to use the Skype
service. I know I'll need to install the software for mobiles, and probably buy
some Skype credits, will I then have to find a hot spot in Morocco to use
Skype, and will T-Mobile charge me for using Skype in addition to me buying
Skype credits?

Thanks for any help -

Re: [Talks] Using Skype on an N82

2011-01-05 Thread ANDY COLLINS

Hi Allan -

I've got the N82. Can I ask a couple of things then?

Is there anything I need to know about installing Skype on my phone, are
there settings or anything I need to do?

In terms of using wifi, is it normal to walk in to an internet cafe, and
just search for a wifi access point and select it, to start making calls?

you can use skype with wifi connection, but not sure which phone you are
using. your operator will not charge you if you connect

using wifi.

Re: [Talks] Using Skype on an N82

2011-01-05 Thread ANDY COLLINS

Thanks for this, Allan.

Just looking at the Skype website, it says:

It's free to use Skype in a WiFi zone. If you use Skype with a mobile data
connection, operator charges may apply, so we recommend an unlimited data
plan.

So as long as I can find a free wifi cafe or similar in Morocco, then I
should be ok.

In terms of downloading the software for my mobile, it wants me to do it via
my phone in an sms. I don't know how large the programme is, but not having
a data plan, would rather download via my PC to avoid data charges from
T-Mobile.

Re: [Talks] Using Skype on an N82

2011-01-05 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Stephen - what is the TALKS icon or dictionary as you call it? I haven't
bothered upgrading my TALKS from version 4 on my N82, as some people said
there was little difference, so as well as wanting to know what this TALKS
dictionary does, I need to know if it works on earlier version than 5.1 of
TALKS?

Thanks -

There is only one zip file. The file has both the 3rd edition and 5th
edition install file. There is also the Talks dictionary to put in the
correct place on your phone. So read the information on the blind sea web
site before using the zip file. That away you have a better idea of what
needs to be done.

Hi Andy,

You can download it in a zip file from Blindsea and then unzip and install
on your phone. Make sure you download the one with a 3 in it.

Hi again Stephen - Sorry. My error was to think I'd find these other files
in the TALKS.zip folder, but have now found them in their own Skype.zip

Can you confirm for me that my N82 is a third edition and not fifth edition

When I come to install the dictionary file to work with Skype, do I just
install it in the TALKS folder?

Hi all - I now have Skyped installed, and an account set up, via my phone.

Need to go online now and buy some credit. not sure how much to buy as I
can't find out how much it is to call the UK from Morocco. The hotel has
wifi, but not for free, and I don't know if there are free wifi cafes
anywhere to be had. Is there a difference between wifi and lan? -

That is correct, it is a 3rd edition phone. On the blind sea web site, it
states where to place the file in order for Talks to pick it up. It also
states to turn off and on your handset after putting the file in the
correct place.

I'm not Stephen, but the N82 is not a 5th edition phone. I'd have to
check the specs myself, but I would guess that it is a 3rd edition
phone, as opposed to say a 2nd edition phone. I'm not sure how old the
N82 is, but like I said, it's absolutely definitely not a 5th edition
phone.

When I come to install the dictionary file to work with Skype, do I

Having downloaded the zip file, I found there was no dictionary file,
and only one TALKS file, so don't know if it's the third or fifth
edition. The only files apart from the manuals were:

Daisy2go install file.
D2go_2_00_2_signed.sisx
Eloquence UK english file.
Eloquence_eng_6_1_123.sisx
Eloquence US english file.

There is only one zip file. The file has both the 3rd edition and
5th edition install file. There is also the Talks dictionary to put

Hi Andy,

You can download it in a zip file from Blindsea and then unzip and
install
on your phone. Make sure you download the one with a 3 in it.

Thanks for this, Allan.

Just looking at the Skype website, it says:

It's free to use Skype in a WiFi zone. If you use Skype with a
mobile data
connection, operator charges may apply, so we recommend an unlimited
data
plan.

So as long as I can find a free wifi cafe or similar in Morocco, then I
should be ok.

In terms of downloading the software for my mobile, it wants me to
do it via
my phone in an sms. I don't know how large the programme is, but not
having
a data plan, would rather download via my PC to avoid data charges from
T-Mobile.

[Talks] Access points

2011-01-26 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Hi all - not sure what I've done here, but I was able to use WFA just fine on
Sunday, but when I tried to use it again on Monday, I got the "connecting"
screen after opening the programme, but then a message saying "no access
point." I had been trying to use a wi-fi connection at an airport, and think I
must have mucked something up. Whatever I've done, I can no longer use WFA or
get to my saved web pages on the phone. This is on an N82. My provider is
T-Mobile in the UK. I took a look under settings\phone\connection\access
points, where there are about 14 access points, several pertaining to T-Mobile,
but pressing select on any of them just brings up their details, instead of
allowing me to select one.

Help gratefully appreciated -

Steve - I don't think you can swap the installation from card to phone, I
think you'll have to uninstall first and reinstall; ; you asked if this
could be done without using PCSuite, again, I don't think so, but as
installing TALKS now is fully accessible, it shouldn't be a problem, that is

Basically I installed talks 5 on my memory card without really thinking

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this please?
Can I uninstall Talks and re-install it without having to use the PCSuite,
if I can get some sighted assistance?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Yes you have to buy the service for the 3.01 version for the n82. You can
buy it for the most part as you need it. I'm one of these people who do
not use a gps to get around on a day to day bases. So in my case, i would
probably only buy it on a week to week or month to month bases.

Good day, list.

I text occasionally on the N-82 so I jst use the normal key pad on the
phone.

I've figured out that to text the digits 2-0 you cycle through the
letters

until you get to the digit. However this doesn't seem to work with the 1
key as I logically thought it would have after going through the
punctuation

marks assigned to 1.

So how do I get the digit 1 into a text?

Subject: [Talks] Suggestion for gps users

Hi Listers,
I'm using e72 with talks and I'd like to share an interesting and
important discovery I've made. Maybe it's obvious for some users but maybe
others don't know about it.
When I started using my e72 with loadstone and nokia maps I used to keep
the phone in a pocket and listen to talks via head phones. It often took 5
or 10 minutes to connect to the satelites. This week I tested a new
method: I put the phone over my head, under a hat. This way the satelite
connects almost immediatelly, it often takes about 5 or 10 seconds. This
way the gps keeps connected inside the buses, specially if I stay close to
the windows.

I hope it's useful for someone.
Regards, Paulo

[Talks] How do I turn off the camera light on the N82

2012-05-07 Thread ANDY COLLINS

Hi all -

For some reason, TALKS isn't reading the options within the camera app, so
can't find out how to sort my battery sapping issue. I have been told that
the red camera light is on all the time. Opening the shutter turns it off,
but obviously I don't want to leave the shutter open. I think this red
light is perhaps something to do with the camera flash. Thing is, I am only
getting about 10 hours battery life per charge, and believe it is this light
being on all the time that is draining the battery. Has anybody experienced
this? This is on an N82, so if anybody can tel me how to stop the camera
light staying on, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks -

Andy

Re: [Talks] Removing N82 Battery Door

2012-06-16 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Can be a bit stiff, but using the index finger on your right hand, press and
hold the button down, and at the same time, using the thumb and middle
finger on your left hand, grip the top edges of the cover, on the outside
edges of the phone, just under the camera lenses, and push down. This works
for me, hope it does for you -

I've had my N82 so long without changing the original battery that I've

it. Help!

[Talks] N82 and memory cards

2010-10-14 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Hi all -

Couple of questions:

Can the N82 take a 32gb card? And is the High Capacity microSD Card the correct
card?

Some cards are called class 2 or class 4 etc, I assumed this is to do with
speed? what does this mean for the N82, and which is the correct card for this
phone?

Thanks -

You should be able to put a Micro SDHC 32GB card in the phone. If you can
find one. 16GB will work as well.

2010-10-20 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Hi Stephen - good to bear this in mind, but I keep TALKS in phone memory,
find it's best that way. However, thinking about performance from the phone
using a large capacity card, is the overall performance improved by the
class of card? I don't know what class the 32gb cards come in, but have seen
class 2 and class for for 16gb cards, so does higher class equal better
card performance?

It has nothing to do with being popular, it has to do with the number of
companies making them and the amount being made. The 32GB Micro SDHC cards
have only been out for a sort amount of time. So it takes a while to get
them to all places and to create them to keep up with demand. Note! your
phone may come up slower being the card is larger. So if you are running
Talks from the memory card! You could see your phone taking longer to come
up as far as when it starts talking. I'm not saying this will happen, I'm
saying it could happen. So if you see this after putting in the larger
card! Then you will know why.

Re: [Talks] N82 memory card capacity

2010-10-20 Thread ANDY COLLINS
Many thanks Stephen for this explanation, I understand it now, and see that
a class 2 will be fine for me, and that the only gain with a faster class
card really, would be when transferring data to it from my laptop's reader.

Andy

On the existing Nokia phone it isn't going to make a whole lot of
difference. But normally the higher class of card means that the card is
faster. There are 4 classes of cards out. Class 2 means the card can read
at 2MB per second. Class 4 means the card can read at 4MB per second.
Class 6 means the card can read at 6MB per second. Class 10 means the card
can read at 10MB per second.

If Nokia had put the faster transfer in the phone between the phone and
the memory card, then YES you would see a improvement in how fast things
load from the memory card. But like I said, most Nokia phones as far as
3rd Edition phones like the E51/E66/N82/N86/N95* models etc... Nokia
didn't do hat. However when you pull the card out of the phone and put it
in a memory card reader! Then you copy data to/from it! You will see a
improvement in how long it takes to read/write large amounts of data to
the memory card.

Yes you can dial the number press the call key wait about 1 second and
then hang up the call. Then go and look in the log program under dial
numbers and see who's name is there. If there is no name, then you do not
have a entry in your contact list for that number. Cases where this can
fail, if that number is in your contacts more then once. It may take a
little longer before the phone finds a match over 1 second.

Hi Matthew.

Listening to audible titles on a Nokia is no easy business. I had
inordinate amounts of trouble getting my Nokia E52 and E5 phones to
register and activate with audible, then even more trouble getting the
books to play and I'm not a phone newbie or novice user. If you really
want to explore this route, please email me privately and I'll give you
what instructions I can. It means using the audible manager software,
installing software to your phone to play the titles and activating the
phone as a device with audible's servers, and that before you can play
anything. Also, the support for audible formats is limited to formats 3
and 4 only, so if your used to enjoying enhanced quality audio (that is to
say cd quality) you'll be out of luck.

All the best, Ibrahim.
