[Sursound] Can anyone share test HOA (higher-order ambisonic) recordings?

2016-04-26 Thread Anastasia Devana
Dear sursounders,

Do any of you have any HOA recordings you could share for some testing? I can’t
quite get my hands on a proper mic. (Please nothing under license / NDA / etc)

Also, any recommendations for an HOA mic other than Eigenmike and RealSpace3D
one?

Thanks a ton!

We have some orchestral and theatrical play recordings done with an Eigenmike
here. May I ask what you would be using them for?

There is additionally the Zylia Audioimmersion one mentioned recently on this
list, but I have never tried it myself.

Re: [Sursound] YouTube now supports Ambisonics (warning....part advertisement..)

2016-04-26 Thread Dillon Cower
Hi Aaron,

Currently the channel layout for upload to YouTube must be 4.0 or
unspecified <https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6395969?hl=en>;
e.g., with ffmpeg, specify "-channel_layout 4.0". We're working on
improving things regarding other channel layouts. Apologies for the
confusion in the meantime!

Re: [Sursound] Cowboy Junkies Trinity Session recording

2016-04-26 Thread Dave Hunt

Hi,

Interesting that he used crossed figure-8 mics before finding a
Soundfield.

This is indeed very effective in stereo though, of course results in
a sound rear right being superimposed with opposite polarity front left.

If mixing in closer spot mics, they have to be panned very carefully
to match the apparent position, and be polarity inverted.

Whether this spatial distortion matters depends what you're trying to
achieve.

Ciao,

Dave Hunt
