Hi,
Interesting that he used crossed figure-8 mics before finding a
Soundfield.
This is indeed very effective in stereo though, of course results in
a sound rear right being superimposed with opposite polarity front left.
If mixing in closer spot mics, they have to be panned very carefully
to match the apparent position, and be polarity inverted.
Whether this spatial distortion matters depends what you're trying to
achieve.
