[sane-devel] Canon LiDE 210 issue - exceeds maximum scan height?

2011-01-12 Thread Heinz Wiesinger
Hi!

I got myself a Canon LiDE 210 today and immediatly tried it with latest git
(922a22e). It was detected fine and it seems to work pretty good as well.

Preview works fine, but I noticed that after the actual scanning run, when the
scanhead is parked again, it tries to go back too far. It does not happen
after the preview run, only after the scan.

If there is anything else I can provide to help get this bug fixed, don't
hesitate to contact me :)

Grs,
Heinz

Interesting, I thought I had tested that case as well, but apparently I
didn't.
It's true, if I wait between each scan nothing happens, the head is parked
correctly. If I do not wait, or specify multiple scans from the beginning, it
has issues.

Thank you very much. Confirmed working now here as well :)

Hmm, I'm not sure. The list only offered up to 1200 dpi, but it was editable.
So I tried defining 2400 dpi and from what I can see it worked. At least gimp
reports the scanned image with 2400 dpi. I did the same for 4800 dpi as well,
don't know if it is useful or not.

I tried to get as small as possible scans, maybe it ended up too small. If so
tell me and I'll run it again. I uploaded the logs to my server, they are
available here: http://www.liwjatan.at/files/logs/

Hope that helps! :)

I finally got around to doing that. You can find the log at:

Support for the LiDE 210 was included just recently, 1.0.21 is not new enough
for that. 1.0.22 works just fine here.

FWIW, I have sane-1.0.22 built with libusb_1 and my LiDE 210 works like a
charm.

I fetched the git code and tested this with my Canon Lide 210. The behavior
definitely changed, although it's not really working yet. Using xsane, when
acquiring a preview I can hear the scanner move now all the time, before it
would abort right at the beginning with an invalid command. However, the
preview image is not updated and the scanner tries to go beyond it's physical
bounds (ie, never stops moving). Scanning itself always aborts with "Failed to
start scanner: Invalid argument".

I tried to make usb captures with wireshark, they are available here:

http://www.liwjatan.at/files/logs/preview.pcapng.gz
http://www.liwjatan.at/files/logs/scan.pcapng.gz

The first is plug in scanner, start xsane, try to acquire review and then
unplug when it doesn't stop moving.
The second is plug in scanner, start xsane, try to scan (2x)

I'm running kernel 3.18.0 as well, seeing as that included some USB3 related
fixes.

Heinz

Retested with kernel 4.0.0-rc1 and the USB3 related patches that came out of a
recent discussion on linux-usb
(http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg120507.html). No dice, still not
working :(

Mike, since your initial report was against the same scanner I have, did you
happen to have any success yet?

Unfortunately I don't have access to a computer running windows, much less so
one that additionally has usb3 ports :(
I'm afraid I have to defer to someone else here.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the LIDE 210. In a message from last month, Stef
asked for usbpcap log from windows (see
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2015-March/033202.html
for details). Unfortunately I don't have access to a Windows computer having
USB3 ports. So if you have and you could provide those logs, it might help in
figuring out what's going wrong.

Hi!

I'm CC'ing Stef on this since he is the dev who originally asked me for the
usbpcap logs.

But what I think is, that if windows only sees the connection as USB2, it
won't be much help in fixing the USB3 issues.
