[RE-wrenches] Deep well pumping

2021-03-26 Thread frenergy

Hey Folks,

Why am I having such a difficult time finding a Grundfos
distributor that can help me with a pump design for a new well?  Their
website seems clunky for getting info  Static at 25 feet, drilled to 340
feet to hit 30+ GPM.  We would like to have 25 GPM at 40 psi, pump set
at 300 ft, dynamic water level is 175 feet.  Does Grundfos have a pump
for this application?

Thanks

[RE-wrenches] Batteries and Working Spaces

2021-03-26 Thread Jason Szumlanski
I am planning a battery backup system using Fortress 18.5kWh eVaults. Due
to flood level requirements, these are going to need to be mounted about 48
inches above the garage floor on a shelf/platform. That puts the tops of
the battery cabinets well above 6'7". But I believe that these do not fall
under the working space requirements of NEC 110.26 since they are not
likely to require maintenance. In fact, could these be mounted even higher,
say way up near the 14' ceiling (subject to manufacturer spacing
requirements)?

Can anyone see any code problems with this approach, putting aside the
practical problems with mounting heavy battery cabinets well above grade?

2021-03-26 Thread Kevin Pegg
I use some older software from Grundfos called WinCAPS v 7.8 for pump sizing.
It works well. I am only focused on the SQFlex systems, so have not used the
other modules but believe it will do the calculations you wish. You may be able
to find that software online to download. If not, I could try and locate the
original installation CD or run the sizing for you.

[RE-wrenches] Converting a old Troybuilt Roto tiller

2021-03-26 Thread Dana Orzel
Hey All wise ones,

I have an old B&S gas powered Troy Built Roto tiller that the safety
switches are years past available. I would like to convert this monster to
electric drive.

Any suggestions or anyone know of someone who has done this?

I hate to reinvent the wheel if someone has this idea dialed in or a kit? I
just want to get it done.

Thanks in advance & if this is an off the topic thing please reply off the
list.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Converting a old Troybuilt Roto tiller

2021-03-26 Thread Ray
I recall seeing something like that in an old Home Power magazine
article.  I've done a few odd ball conversions, and that seems like a
good one to play with.  Its not a "daily driver", not going long
distances or long hours, weight isn't a huge issue, and so lead acid
batteries might not be out of the question.  Constant speed too, so you
might not need a super PWM controller.  I'd consider something in the 12
to 24 v range, and just go old school with a heavy duty knife switch or
over sized relay.  If you start it with the tines in the air, it
shouldn't have a big starting surge.

Or you could go 21st century, with 48v, Li+ PWM controller, etc
Another option to consider is using existing Li+ battery packs, like
Ryobi's 40 v lawn mower packs.

Hi Jason,

There is a 250A breaker located inside a compartment on the top of the
unit. Keeping that reasonably accessible would be important.

Also, just out of curiosity, how are you planning of getting these battery
cabinets onto their 4’ platform? Forklift? Ramp?
