Jeff;

You might try the classifieds in the discussion board on a DIY power site
we run:
http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php?board=16.0

Non-commercial listings only, but it's fine to list surplus / extra items.
Check the posting guidelines before submitting.

Can we sign up on an informal email list with interested
Wrenches? We can at least let each other know what is available.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Where for Renewable Classifieds?

2012-10-29 Thread Michael Welch

Hi gang. Right, this list is not an appropriate place to list inventory
or try to sell or market anything.
I am hesitant to start yet another list (but am open to off-list
persuasion), but please remember that all Wrenches are eligible for the
RE-Bitching list, which is private and anything goes. It rarely is used,
but is solid.
Also, the RE-Markets list is still viable. I do not run it, so you might
want to check with Bill to see if listing excess inventory for sale is
appropriate.

[RE-wrenches] evergreen 190 and shell 175 panels needed

2012-10-29 Thread Geoff Greenfield
Hello esteemed wrenches: I am looking for a single Evergreen 190 or equivalent,
as well as a shell 175 - please contact me off list- thanks.

As an FYI - we continue to have good performance from our EG fleets as well as
our Arco/Siemens/Shell/SolarWorld modules. The Evergreen was done in by a
gutter installer - the Shell was hit by a bullet or meteorite (we think).

[RE-wrenches] Tigo and Solar edge

2012-10-29 Thread Kirk Herander
I have been asked to design module-level monitoring for an old system with a
string inverter. I see that Solar Edge has a SMI interface which allows
panel monitoring without using their in-house inverter. Has anyone tried
this yet? There is no manual that I can find on their website for the SMI.
Maybe it's not shipped yet.

Tigo's version is simpler and cheaper. Any comparison help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Module shorting to ground?

2012-10-29 Thread Kelly Larson
Hi Rebecca,

If you suspect the wires in conduit, you can megger just the wires by
disconnecting all the wires on both ends of the conduit, wirenutting them off
on one end, and meggering them on the other end. Megger between two of the
wires at a time, and repeat until all the wires have been tested against each
other and each is tested against the metal conduit, (if any). There should be
very high resistance between all of them and between them and the metal conduit.

To megger an array:

Remove the array connection to the inverter! Cap that end of the wires with
wirenuts.
Remove any surge protection devices!
Be sure that you connect the positive of the megger to the negative of the
array (this is important to get right)
Connect the negative of the megger to the grounding conductors
Make sure all the metal of the system is clear of people and animals. (Don't
touch any metal)
Energize megger. Use the 50V setting, (if the megger has that low a setting),
it will show something if there is a problem that you are picking up with a
multimeter
or use the lowest setting. Don't use more than 500V.

I am not sure the megger is the right tool to diagnose a module and prove it
has an internal GF to a module manufacturer. Some module manufacturers say not
to megger their modules.

Hope that helps. Let us know!

Blessings,
Kelly
