[RBW] Ram + Sugino XD 2 triple = ? bottom bracket length

2013-03-14 Thread Swza
Hi everyone,
My apologies if this has been covered before (a forum search didn't turn up
an answer) but could anyone tell me if I should use a 110 or 113 (or
something else) length bottom bracket for the Rambouillet-Sugino XD2 triple
combination? Thanks

[RBW] Re: Sidepull brakes versus Cantilevers

2013-04-05 Thread Swza
Hi John,
I have a Rambouillet with Tektro Silvers and a 1988 Trek 520 Reynolds 531
with Shimano cantis. The cantis have better stopping power than the
Silvers, however the Silvers are not bad.

Overall I prefer cantis for a few reasons. Stopping power is better. I
also think they look better on non racing steel frames in general. Also,
not having a sidepull brake going through the fork crown hole allows you to
use what I believe are better, stronger and more elegant looking front
racks. And lastly, cantis will virtually never interfere with fenders. I
wish my Rambouillet had cantilevers. I would switch in a heartbeat.

Jeff

I own Paul Neo Retros which are installed on a Surly Cross Check and love
them. Once you adjust and tension the arms, they are virtually trouble
free.

[RBW] Re: FS 64 cm Atlantis - custom blue

2013-04-10 Thread Swza
Hi everyone,
I went to check the bike out last weekend (I live in Denver) and I wanted
to let everyone know that if you are looking for an Atlantis you shouldn't
hesitate to pull the trigger on this one. The parts are all top of the
line and the bike felt great to ride. My wife sort of shut down the
purchase or I would I have definitely bought it, especially at this price.
There is a long scratch on the top tube but the bike as a whole is great.
Highly recommended.

[RBW] 64cm Rambouillet - Handlebar bag/decaleur combinations

2013-04-24 Thread Swza
Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone in the group could give me a recommendation on a tall
handlebar bag and decaleur that will work on a frame this large (64cm). My
handlebar is high above the nitto front rack and I'm not sure if there is a
decaleur that will reach down low enough to connect to a bag. I was
looking at the Berthoud 28 bag because it is so tall and was curious if the
VO Decaleur fork receiver will reach down enough.

http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/accessories/racks-decaleurs/decaleurs/vo-decaleur-reciever-5mm-posts-218.html

Anyone have any experience with a larger Rivendell frame and handlebar
bag? Thanks a lot.

[RBW] Re: Sackville Shop Sack & Wald basket

2013-05-24 Thread Swza

Him MIchael,

I've used the large and medium on a Nitto front rack and the medium is more
secure that the large on the narrow rack, but it was never too big of a
deal either way. I then put the large on a VO Porteur rack. The platform
of the rack is ideal for holding the large Wald and is very secure.

And to answer your question, the bag/basket combo is perfect. I've yet to
buy enough groceries or anything else that won't fit inside. And like
Brian in Seattle, I use a cargo net to secure it. Also, my large basket is
on a low trail bicycle which did make a very noticeable and positive
difference than when I had a medium basket on my Ram.

[RBW] Re: Family Ramble

2013-06-05 Thread Swza
These fires will become more and more common. Although there was some snow
at the end of the winter this year, overall, Colorado had
very disappointing snow levels this year (especially considering how
horrible the last two years were). We already had a fire in Evergreen and
it's the middle of Spring. If we have another winter next year like this
year, Denver and the metro area will be in huge trouble and there will be
massive fire problems in the mountains. My brother measures water levels
for the state and the problem is much worse than people realize.

Bike rides like these will be harder to come by in the future. Patrick, I
don't know what the answer is but we have to all start acting now, do
anything you can. It breaks my heart to see your daughters riding and to
think what our magical and majestic mountains will look like when they are
grown.

some handlebar tape and got some splatter on the paint job of a blue
Rambouillet. Have you (or any other members) had any luck removing shellac
from paint jobs while not harming the paint itself? Thanks

Re: [RBW] Which headbadge/DT/ST art set do you like best on Rivbikes?

+1 on the Rambouillet. In addition to what you wrote I love the raspberry
color at the top and bottom. I also like the simple bold look of the
Bombadil badge.

[RBW] Re: Fenders and Rams

2012-11-11 Thread Swza
Hi Ryan,
I have a Blue Ram and after switching to Tektro 559s I use the SKS
longboards with Panaracer Pasela 35mm tires. The front has very tight
clearance but I got it to work. I also use the Sheldon fender nuts and I
think that helps by moving the fender back a few centimeters.

[RBW] Re: Slow Riding

2013-01-02 Thread Swza
Hello Tim,
As I've gotten older I've definitely slowed down. I feel as fit as I did 5
to 10 years ago yet I don't feel the need to push it as I once did. I get
to work 5 minutes later but smelling better and in one piece. I cringe
thinking of the risks I used to take in traffic. I feel fortunate I've
never been hit so I show more respect to cycling and commuting now.
(Someone in Seattle is currently selling his 61.5cm 1971 Singer touring
bike, might be on Craigslist)

[RBW] Re: fender clearance tektro r559 vs paul racer

2013-01-09 Thread Swza
Hi Michael,
Do you think the long reach racers would have too long brake reach to work
with a Ram? My friend has a used set he wants to sell me but I saw the
brake reach for those are 57mm. I think it will be very close. Any
thoughts? Thanks
