[RBW] Re: Kucharik wool shorts with real chamois or Andiamos under street shorts

2023-07-09 Thread J S
Patrick, I should have mentioned that I’ve used Andiamos padded liners for
years. I liked the old ones better but the new ones are cheap and the
company gives good deals, or car least they did with some free liners when
you reach a certain amount purchased. They do run large, I take a small in
them. I should be a medium so you can base it on that. The pad itself is
minimal at best. Good luck.

Tektro aero, rear is a Tiagra brifter, Panaracer Gravel King tires. Saddle
not included.

Shown with 82cm saddle height:

Is it a Rivendell? Sorry, no, but the geo is close to a 61cm Roadeo but
with 20mm more reach (and some other minor differences that I consider
close enough to come out in the wash):

$1050. Located in SoCal. I have a bike box and will ship at cost
(PirateShip--or you provide label), if you're not local.

2023-07-09 Thread Adrianna T
Someone messaged me today on Reddit and through Craigslist to say they saw my bike hanging off a small tent with other things at the non-paid area of Laney flea market. He said they were asking $600 for it. I went there shortly after and I could not find it though it is entirely possible this person asking about it might have spooked them, and it was stored or covered after. Also yesterday someone spotted my Soma Groove at 12th St Oakland BART station. I’m less concerned about that bike, though I will probably return to the flea market with some frequency to see if it’s there. I think it’ll be hard to fence / get rid of. Sent from a tiny deviceOn Jun 25, 2023, at 11:56 AM, Adrianna T wrote:No, it was literally an Atlantis. Will keep an eye out. [RBW] Chainring Pins

2023-07-09 Thread George Schick
Anyone know what those "pins" in some chainrings are for? I had an
incident while riding today where the pedal suddenly got "stuck" when I
tried shifting from the larger chainring to the smaller one. I had to stop
and when I tried moving the crank either forward or backward the chain
bunched up between the RD and the chainring. After examination I
discovered that a chain link had gotten wedged under one of those
free-floating pins. This is the second chainring by the same company that
I've installed that had those pins. I also occasionally experience a
"crunching" sound when starting from a stop position which resulted in a
chain link broken completely in half. I'm blaming those pins for that
problem, too. Will change anything if I drill them out?

[RBW] Re: Chainring Pins

2023-07-09 Thread Garth
George, Drilling out the pins to expose the holes already present won't
matter at all. Those holes are nothing compared to "back in the day" with
the drillium craze ! The 60's weight weenies dream.

http://classiccycleus.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Drilled-out-chainrings-and-crankarms.jpg

The pins and ramps are called "shift aides" by manufacturers. It's a rather
self serving thing, that indexed shifting needs "aides" to help move the
chain. Anyone that knows how to friction shift knows they are not needed.

Re: [RBW] Re: Rebour saddle break in

2023-07-09 Thread Luke Hendrickson
+1 for the rec of Obenauf’s. If that saddle is anything like the Gilles
Bethoud that I have (thicker, higher quality leather than contemporary
Brooks), using Brooks saddle goop or something similar will not be good.
It’ll overly soften it. Obenauf’s is wonderful and has made my GB the
*absolute* pleasure that it is to ride now. Admittedly some 4500 miles have
been put on this saddle since initial application so sweat, etc., has
finished the job started by the conditioner.

Re: [RBW] Re: Rebour saddle break in

2023-07-09 Thread Kim H.

I highly recommend using Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP Leather Conditioner
Natural Oil Beeswax I have used for my expensive leather boots, as well as,
my Brooks B-67S saddle and others than I have owned over the years. I
personally believe this is better than Proofide by Brooks. Here the method
I use.

I apply the Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP Leather Conditioner Natural Oil Beeswax
Formula on my Brook's saddle. I let it set overnight. Wipe off the excess
the next day. Apply it again. Set it overnight. Wipe off excess the next
day.. Loosening up the tension bolt helps too, but not too much. A couple
of turns.By now, the leather should be more supple and pliable.
