[RBW] An Appaloosa build video

2022-01-05 Thread brendonoid
A first time try at a filming/editing project by my partner and I. Footage
is from April 2021. For the bike savvy there are a lot of non-sequiturs
here.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy!

That was fun to watch - thanks for taking the time to make it. Gotta love
the cup & cone BB! You put grease in all kinds of places I've never thought
to put grease. A little woodworking thrown in is right up my alley. The
build turned out great. Would love to have seen it ride off into the sunset
at the end, but maybe that's the next chapter. Keep 'em coming.

Nice! It's fun watching someone who clearly knows what they're doing build
a bike. You make it look so easy! Love the blue accents with the orange
frame...even down to the blue lacing on the saddle and the blue ferrules.
You sure have an excellent eye for detail!

[RBW] FS > 9-Speed Shimano Cassettes, NEW

2022-01-05 Thread David Hallerman

Hi!

My TK downsizing sale begins with cassettes. Who doesn't use cassettes?
Okay, you folks who still prefer freewheels.

But otherwise, all the cassettes here are new, except a near-new one
that has a mere 58 miles usage and was removed only because I sold the
frameset. And all the cassettes are Shimano 9-speed, except for one SRAM
8-speed that fits on Shimano hubs. All prices includes shipping in CONUS
if the buyer covers the Paypal fee. Photos available on request, and
questions quickly answered.

Thanks for looking.

Re: [RBW] Re: Suggestions for better braking?

2022-01-05 Thread Toshi Takeuchi
I agree, centerpull brakes might be the best option. The Paul Racers should
work great, but may require a bit of tire deflation to mount the wheel,
depending upon the width of your tires. Mafac raid or Compass bolt ons
should also work equally well, but expensive. I have not tried the
DiaCompe 610s, but that would be a cheap try--much cheaper than a new frame!

Best of luck!

Maybe send Crust an email?

Maybe there's a glitch in their shipping calculator, an extra $16 to ship 2
rolls of Newbaum's seems weird.

[RBW] Rivendell Inventory

2022-01-05 Thread Doug H.
Covid has wreaked havoc on the bicycle industry as well as many others.
Supply Chain is the latest phrase we all know too well these days. But,
Rivendell needs in my humble non-business owner opinion to buy more
inventory. I seem to remember they like to pay for all purchases without
using a credit line and that seems reasonable at first thought. But, I
think they would increase sales to a large extent if they would bring in
more product. A case in point are the knickers that went up for sale and
sold out in two days! Brass headset spacers are rarely available. The list
goes on.

Just a thought I had as I was ready to buy a pair of knickers to no avail.

Re: [RBW] Re: Ron's Ortho Bars in stock at Crust

2022-01-05 Thread Taylor M
I second sending Crust an email.

I suspect whatever algorithm they're using to compute shipping costs
doesn't take into account packing considerations, namely whether an item
adds significant weight to or changes the size of the package. I ordered
the bars + a hat and shipping was a little over $40. I was distracted so I
didn't notice until after the fact, but they processed and shipped my order
quickly and refunded $25 without me saying anything. This also wasn't the
first time Crust has proactively refunded part of my order's shipping cost.

Re: [RBW] Re: Ron's Ortho Bars in stock at Crust

2022-01-05 Thread Ed Carolipio
Concur with Taylor on Crust shipping. I thought their shipping charges were
insane but actual shipping was a lot less and they refunded the difference
after they created the shipping label. You can call/e-mail to verify but
that was my experience the two times I bought from them last year.

Re: [RBW] Re: Ron's Ortho Bars in stock at Crust

2022-01-05 Thread Bones
Thanks for the head's up. I saw these on Ron's Atlantis a while back and
was intrigued. I managed to snag a set before they vanished. About the
shipping: I've ordered many things from Crust and I regularly receive
adjustments for the difference in actual shipping costs once my stuff
ships. $30 is steep, but I doubt you would ever end up paying that.

Re: [RBW] Rivendell Inventory

2022-01-05 Thread rltilley
Riv has been like this for years. I remember having a credit with them and
looking around for something that met two criteria: 1. I needed it and 2. It
was in stock. The items in the intersection of the two circles in that Venn
diagram was a very, very small set.

I tend to not even bother looking at their site anymore since most of what I
need never seems to be in stock.

Re: [RBW] Re: Ron's Ortho Bars in stock at Crust

2022-01-05 Thread Michael Williams
Just a heads up to the group if you missed out on the Crust ortho bars: there
is a fellow who makes all types of handlebars under the moniker DoomBars on
instagram. He does a lot of swoopy albatross style bars. I’ve ordered 2
pairs from him over the last couple years. He’ll do any sweep/ rise/ width.
It’s really actually awesome. He’s really great to work with. They’re made of
steel. Very strong but not too heavy. When I ordered I think they were
either $100 or $120 might have gone up, not sure. If you’re looking for custom
bars they’re hard to beat. -Mike

Jason - rack received and installed. bonus was the struts were a perfect length
for my wife's mark rack to go straight to the fork ends. I used hers to go to
my mid seat stay braze ons. win win win. happy new year. thank you again

thanks for the recommendations and suggestions - managed to get a matching
rear thumbie for the bike, and went ahead and ordered a set of paul levers
because they'll likely be the last set of levers we'll ever need. been

waiting for something in good condition.

i think i might get an r14 rack eventually, i like the ones without the
tombstone. erlen is out of the question, as is the bagman support as i
think those are better for barrel shaped bags than for the riv offerings.
heck, even a marks rack would do, but i already put one of those on my
wife's bike. probably shouldn't steal it from her just yet.

the pec deck is an idea i've considered, but no, the slim sucker does not
have any webbing on the bottom which is a bummer, but it's small so
 probably would have been overkill.

im gonna call riv tomrrow to ask about the kickstand. so far the rat tail
filing out the hole to the left seems to make the most sense, and i get
with enough torque there wouldn't be any reason for the kickstand to move
back and forth along the elongated hole. we'll see if they cosign this
idea or have a better one. i'm sure they've dealt w it before.

thanks everyone - better pics to come hopefully this weekend.

What a barrage of positivity! Thank you, everyone.
I will have to get used to building bikes with a camera in the way I guess?

Eric, good eye! I didn't realise my cap was even in the video.
The spacers are some 4-5mm axle mods that came with a random Ebay jockey
wheel set. I wish I knew where to get them seperately because they turned
out to be very useful. I have also used them in nitto struts to centre
them.

I've been waiting since February last year for these bars and have checked
the website at least once a week in that interval. I really wanted them for
a Susie build.

They are now sold out.

*sigh*

I had a set in my shopping cart and got sidetracked at work and when I
checked back an hour later they were sold out :-(
