[openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website] Please add NATO coordinates, Here is why. (Issue #5984)

### Problem

This might be considered a subversive email, but here it is anyway.

As you may know many people differ with the positions of our current POTUS, and
that's great. It is a free country and people should be free to express their
opinions.

However blatant discrimination I would think should be avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately, by simple oversight or through negligence it seems me this has
been the case in open street maps. Long story short you guys don't have the
NATO grid or any Grid near as I can see to turn on.

You can search by Latitude and Longitude but not by MGRS the Military Grid
Reference System thought up by NATO back in the 1940s. However Google knows
about it. Just type 16SFH0600025000 into the Google Search Engine (not even
Google Maps) and a map of one unique square meter of Earth is shown.

Since our current President of the United States is seemingly unaware of this
of the mapping interdependence of the NATO allies I would hope Open Street Maps
could supply the option of turning this Grid on or off ASAP. I know it is only
a small symbolic gesture but it would be greatly appreciated by some. Thank for
your time and consideration in this matter.

(yes I have found a mapping app here in the States that does this but
redundancy is a good thing right?)

(I am kind of new at this so if this is the wrong place to post this I
apologize If you could please inform me of your decision in this matter I would
appreciate it.

Or just an email to where the answer is posted?

I don't know if I am allowed to appeal or not so here goes anyway.
1. Many people don't know what the NATO grid is. True Many People don't
know what OpenStreetMaps is but Google Maps knows what MGRS is (the NATO
destination for US Army)
2. Map editing seems like it would be easier to me if the coordinate system
were easier to use, or maybe More than 1 of them? (again Google thinks so
and according to your help files aren't you guys sort of competing with
Google?)

3. Here in the States I think it is Subversive because because near as I
can tell Trump thinks just saying anything about NATO is Subversive (but I
may be wrong)

Is this enough to get this reopened? If not please inform me what would be?
(I am a retired GIS person who converted all my point files to MGRS for
ease of use, but just like OpenStreetMaps so far the people that published
my maps were also uninterested in adding other coordinate systems. Even
though the US National Grid (the civilian form of the MGRS, but they use
the same coordinates) is used by many US agencies...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_National_Grid

I admit I like maps with Grids and the NATO one is the most common doesn't
that count?
(in fact I have heard some people say if it doesn't have a grid it is not a
map) doesn't that sort of make sense?

Well I feel like I am asking people that admit to speaking different
languages to accept a different coordinate system with a built in
directions and a built in metric scale. I am just asking it to be an
option, like French or English is an option.
I would think that would be obvious, or perhaps looking at mostly
computerized maps has given people the view that search and rescue can't
be done with a paper map?
I know printing out an Open Street Map probably isn't done very often so I
guess making it more useful to some people who like to know where North is
and the scale of the map isn't that important.
I only did computerized mapping for over 20 years for a local government.
What would I know?
But don't take my word for it.

Right that's exactly why you only use ENGLISH for all your maps right?

38°10'00.1"N 85°47'23.8"W and 16SFH0800025000 is exactly the same place.
you just didn't know that or you choose to call it 'value added'
information.

Get real you get more total users of your information the more
accessible it is.
