penti keyboard

2022-03-10 Thread pd
Hello,

In today Pilcon I had an interest in penti keyboard and decided to test it
, so I've installed it from Android Store into my android 7.1.1 phone.

I had to activate it as a virtual keyboard and select it as default
keyboard, but when try to use it something is wrong, I see a word "Pent" in
the middle of screen and no circles at all and I cannot type anything, but
when moving the phone I see a lot of random symbols typed in.

Is there anything else necessary to install in order to use the keyboard?

regards

This is all correct and good so far.

At this point you should touch the screen with all five fingers, in a natural
convenient position. Then five cicles should appear. They will follow your hand
and finger movements, until you release at least one finger. Then the circles
will stay in place.

There are no keys generated until you did the above calibration.

But I have an idea what could happen: If you press the hardware Volume-Up or
-Down keys, Penti generates special data for remote controlling the mouse cursor
(I also briefly showed this today). It generates text like

   Δ827-24+156+Δ188-1064-306+Δ633+162-70-Δ6-240+331-

Does it look like that? If so, better not press the volume keys :)

BTW, you can indeed control both the screen brightness and audio volume from
Penti by swiping on the screen (outside of a circle) up and down for brightness,
and left and right for volume.

Ok I see after a while not touching the phone the "Pent" letters appear
again and I have to calibrate it in order to use it, so it's easy to
recalibrate, just wait until "Pent" word appears. But then is there any
way to save the current calibration?

Yes, I see. The initial calibrabnion is not optimal. As I said, best is to move
the fingers a little until all circles are ideal, and then release.

I do it usually in such a way that the four circles of the four fingers are
about the same size, but the sixth circle (the repeat key) is even a little
larger. The one for the thumb is the largest.

Once you released, the positions are fixed. To redo it, you can type Func-Space.
Then you get the initial "P E N T I" display and touch all again.

I forgot to mention that you hve to give Extended / "System access" permission
in the Phone's settings for Penti for that.

Just press with one finger outside of all circles. Then Penti disappears and you
can use anobnher fingea to do something on the screen, like copy/paste or click
on a link.

With Func-H

For the records, most things are explained in

This does not happen. Penti is reset only if you type Func-Space, or switch to
another keyboard and then back to Penti.

No. And I think this is not needed. Once you got used to it, (re)calibration is
just a quick touch.

Hello,

I was playing a little and surprisingly it's fun and I'm not too dumb,
still I realized two facts:

- I'm not able to place all circles inside the screen
- my little finger is useless

I see almost all my questions and problems are explained in the link you
gave me about penti, so sorry for bothering you with my questions, I should
RTFM before asking.

I discovered the use case, it is when screen layout changes, when I put my
phone on the table it turns the screen from vertical layout to
horizonatal layout and this makes "Penti" word appear on the screen and I
have to recalibrate.

It's a bit annoying but it's also logical to act this way since screen
dimensions change when you change layout, I suppose the obvious solution is
to block layout change
