Re: Converting M4A and M4B Files

Maybe try this program called Switch. It is free for 30 days but a little
limited but after a $30 purchas it will convert over 40 different
formats, maybe that mp4 is one of them.

MMM needs best CD's for many copies!

2007-12-18 Thread tickpub
Hi all, I am going to be doing a lot of curning on CD. I have been useing
a variety of disks and found that some work ok, some do not and its got
me upset. I even went as far to buy a new high end burner thinking maybe
that my old one was gone.
I am looking for printable disks, but good ones, reliable and proven.
Also, are there any disks out there that hold more than the normal 70
minutes
I need a bunch and looking for the best but also a good deal, can anyone
inform me on this request?
Thank you

Hi back, textaloud is a great program. I only wished they had higher end
voices. But there is another program that is toatlly free, and actually
does more than textaloud. It is called Dspeech.
There are a few features that TA does not have. The help files are not
very good but if you take the time, and learn all its little ticks it
does very good. The builder asks for a donation.
I'm searching for thoase La.../ voices which are very real but very
expensive. Anyone out there have or want to get rid of soemthing they
might not use any longer?

Re: Text aloud is free today

2007-12-21 Thread tickpub
Now don't get me wrong, I like the TA but have tried just about every
program out there. I was in contact with nextup for a long time and made
several suggestions to them on how to improve their product. So far they
said they would consider it. Now one day I found this Dspeech program and
thought maybe to try it.
Low and behold, it had the one great feature that I had suggested to TA
in it.
It pretty well works the same, but the thing that I liked was that you
can add sound files into your document as you go along. For exameple that
I might write a article about what it means to be on a firing squad?
Well, now you tyep along and just at the right place you insert a count
down and 10 rifles blast off...and you continue on.

Now when you save your text as an mp3 file and play it back, that sound
file just plays within the file. Now as far as I know, you cannot do
this with TA, unnless they updated this feature.
Also I wanted TA to be able to allow me to play some type of music in the
background but not yet.

I do like the TA simplicity but it costs around $34 while Dspeech just
accepts donations. They both work with sappi voices and I run about 20
different voices but still looking for those really high quality ones.
I still use TA as my main program but when I want to do something
special, i turn to my dspeech.

Also you can set dpeech to save your files at a louder volume
automatically.
Dspeech has some items that I have not yet figured out.

I really hope that TA will add or upgrade with sound file insert
capability.
That is it...

Do not ever waste your time or money on natural speak text to speech. It
cost me a $100 to learn that this program was not made for blind or
partially sighted people. Plus, it is very complicated to use and you
still have to buy the better voices, so TA is a much better deal.

Re: Text aloud is free today

2007-12-21 Thread tickpub
Hi back and here is a return note to sseveral of my questions about the
dspeech.
I will say more after this note:
Saturday, December 08, 2007
Dspeech back ansers
> Where are they located if there is a manual?
The manual is on the zip, it's the file: DSpeech (ENG).txt
> In your ad, you suggest that certain words can be effected, made louder
> and so on. Where do I go to make these changes.
You must use special tags (right click).

> I run about 20 different voices, some of the old sappi4 and the better
> sappi 5's. I really would like to know if and how I can insert my own
> voice, as you so did in your add.
I didn't add my voice on my samples. They are all synthetic voices.
Anyway, DSpeech allows you to make this, you must use the option "Record
from microphone". A mp3 file with your voice will be created and a
special keyword
will be placed on the text automatically.
> Let's say I ask someone a question in my voice and a computerized voice
> ansers back, is this possible?
Yes, you must use the language script (DSpeech supports a language script
that allows to write small programs of this type).

> Also, what is "Start ASR"
The ASR is the automatic speech recognition.
> There are many features on your menues that are without any
explanations,
> could you tell me waht they are?
Unfortunately I'm working the weekends too and don't have time for give
support. When I developed DSpeech I was a student with a lot of free
time, but now
isn't so.

> Also, what is the LAM.exe in the main program file and what do I need
to
> record with, should I download anything else?
Lame.exe is the mp3 encoder used by DSpeech.
> One last question, I am looking for some really good story telling
> voices, are there any human like voices that are for sale?
The best are probably the loquendo voices (I have used this voices on my
samples).
Bye
Dimio

Ok now, these loquendo voices I searched and read about them. No
kidding, they are near perfect but from what I can understand, they run
about a $1000? But this guy tells me that they might be a lot
cheaper for the blind but I cannot find out how or where.

All other voices, just worked for me in the program without any settings.
I have the jaws sappi voices but I also bought every 22 sound byte voice
on the market and all workes well with it. but I want better for my ads.
I tell stories and need a really great voice and these loquendo voices
are near perfect.

But all other voices work fine, just like they do in TA.

Help me find those loquendo voices for a good deal.
Take care.

Downloading multi files?

2007-12-21 Thread tickpub
Hi all, got a question here,
Ok, I need to download a lot of mp3 files from a certain site. There are
different categories and under each category there might be 20 or so
separate files. Now I do not have the time to download each file and so
my question is….
How do or how can I download a segment or a group of files in a list, all
at the same time?
Is there a special way?
I know to highlight but will they all then downlod?

Re: SV: Text aloud is free today

2007-12-22 Thread tickpub
Hi and the free TA is a older version, one down from the latest. It will
still do the job and the latest, if I am correct runs anywhere from $29
to $35 and you get two corny voices. Eacj good voice in the 22 MZ or
sound range will be $29 each.

If you can't get the free version still, its worth it to have, it works
very nice.
But if your looking for just a get me started one, try the "Dspeech" free
with a donation program. That will do a good job and sometimes better to.
But again, you got to have better voices, and jaws 8 comes with 7 pretty
good ones. I use the Daniel and Tom, they have the best pronounctions.

Wow, that all sounds great!

Hi there all,
Thanks for your help:
Ok, as so advised, I went and downloaded the Free Download Manager
program FDM.
It is set up and ready to go, could someone now help me make it work for
me. I want to go to this one site and from there, what do I do?
They have about 100 audio files, classified in groups of about 20.
How, what and where and then what?

I use IE explorer 7 as far as I know.
Along with Google search engine if that makes a difference.

Also, is there a way to get rid of Google tool bar?

Re: Text aloud is free today

2007-12-22 Thread tickpub
I spoke of a few things a day or so back, the best thing to do is go to
the dspeech.com site and check it out.
The help files are in need of some adjustment but after a ton of emails
to gthe owner, I was told to just experiement with the things I did not
know about.
So far I have done this with a few of the unknows. But I am not a com
perosn so a lot of this jargan is foreign to me.
Sorry

Sorry, but I have not yet had the time to venture into this part of the
program.
I am going to use it to insert my own voice into files every so often.
That is the extent of my personal hopes in this area.
But, if you learn how do use it then keep us informed.

Re: a good pod cast program.

2008-01-04 Thread tickpub
Hi back, i found this thing called IE web or something close to that. but
it is a total copy of IE explorewr but only with text and especially for
blind users. But when you download it, you also get about 5 other small
programs with it and a few of these are excellent for searching pod
casts, loading pod casts and playing pod casts. You don't have to use all
of them or even load them but they work well with my xp home windows jaws
set up. I still use the normal windows IE but for pod cast searches I
relally like this IE web and it might be IEwebber.com or something like
that.
I cannot go to it right now, I am on the phone typing this and oh wait a
minute?web IE3 but it is something you might want to try and then if you
don't like it, just remove it which is easy.

zenstone Scripts What? forZen stone?

2008-01-17 Thread tickpub
Hi, I have the zenstone 1gb and the zenstone+ 2gb, never knew there was a
script for them! I just plugged them in and they became an instant drive,
just download to them as you would any other ddrive. If there is
something else out there then please let me know.
I am having trouble with the zenstone+. So far, I cannot get it to
connect and thus no charge and thus this is a pain. For I live a good
hour from Frys where I bought and if Icannot get it up and running then I
got to return it.
Thanks for the zenstone help, I will try and unplug and rework it, but so
far, it is really a nice unit.
Thanks,
MMM it

Re: Scripts for the Zen stone?

2008-01-18 Thread tickpub
Hi and I am not sure if there are more than two types of zenstone
players.
But I have the zenstone 1 gb for about $39. and it is a really neat item.
I love it and it plays great. I like it because it is not menu driven and
does a nice easy job.
Now I went out and bought the zenstone+ which is a 2gb player storage
unit and wow, it is way more complicated. But, I did not even know this
but found out by accident that it records and i accidently recorded a
good half hour of something and couldn't figure out how the heck it got
onto my system. My daughter played around with it, and she tells me that
this thing rrecords also. I then found it to have a am fm radio and after
messing with it for a while, I did fvigure it out to some degree. It was
only $54 for 2gb and so far I put at least a hundfred audio articles, 2
full length books, a ton of songs and some muic and still got a lot of
room.

It has a tiny menu which does me no good. I was going to return it but I
will goof with it for another few days and see if I can master it.
But the zenstone 1gb is excellent, tops and I would recommend it. In fact
I am going to load up a few of them with my pod casts, a few of my books
and send the unit to Australia as a fift to some of my friends. They can
download whatever articles they want onto their coms and still enjoy the
unit.
That is it from MMM

Thank and if anyone has some info on the zenstone+ please let me know and
save me a ton of hassles.

Plus Deck Tape drive to MP3 question?

2008-01-19 Thread tickpub
Hiall,appriciateallyourexpertadvise.
Ihavebeenusingthisplusdectape drive which converts tapes to wav or mp3
and it seemed to be doing ok. My complaint is that there is no real menu
system, you got to have some sight and a screen ehancer to change
anything and tsomehow something got changed and now it is a royal pain.

First of all, does anyone use a tape drive other than this plusdeck to
transfer tapes into mp3?
It is such a pain I am willing to spend another $70 bucks to get a system
that works with menues that will walk me through my tasks.

It use to work fine, but I did download a few other programs, maybe they
somehow screwed things up
Does any one have any ideas on what I might do.
Is it possible to use a differnet program with the plusdeck drive?
I am really upset, got a ton of work sitting here and just cannot get it
done without a working drive and easy program.
MMM thank you.

MMM-Is there any difference?

2008-01-25 Thread tickpub
Hi all, getting ready to make a purchase on the Olympis 40 or 50.
Is there any difference between the two, other than storage space?
Are all the functions the same?
Is there an advantage in the 50, other than storage?
Because nobody carries the 50, so it would have to be ordered on line, I
do not like this, its to much of a hassle if you got to return it for
some reason. but Frys or Fries? carries both the 30 and the 40 but not
the 50, so this purchase thing does make a difference for me.
Anyone out there know?
Thank you,

Rick, thank you so much, that was great, saved me three hours of
scanning.
You have a great site, I hope all the best for you and your work and hope
to contribute shortly.
I downloaded that file, unzipped it, brought it up in Dspeach, and turned
it into a mp3 file and now it is going to be on my zenstone to learn
with. Ain't technology great? I only wished they had it when I was
growing up, I could have been Billy Gates or more!
Thanks again.

zenstone question

2008-03-02 Thread tickpub
Hi all, I own both the zenstone and the zenstone plus which is the 1gig
unit. I love them both, but the smaller zenstone which has the switch on
top instead of the push bar is much better to work with. You do not need
any software but as one other person mentioned, you only need to plug it
into the usb port, charge it and that is it.
You really dont need a manual but go to the blind geek web site and there
you can listen to an audio file on the zenstone.
I like the larger unit for space, but rather would own the less expensive
and more useable one instead.
Take care and that is what I know

MMM reply on plus deck Re: plusdeck2

2008-03-03 Thread tickpub
Hi, I do use the Plus Deck, casset to PC and I'm not really sure why this
is happening to you. You should get the exact sound quality that the
casset offers. Maybe your settings inside the configuration need to be
changed.
Is your cassett in good condition?
Try it first on a tape mahcine to see if it plays correctly.
Other than that, I don't know, unless it might be your sound card or some
setting inside your PC?

Zenstone questions here folks!

2008-03-04 Thread tickpub
Hi all, sort of been reading along the discussion of zenstone but so far
your not explaining which zentstone your useing. One might be saying the
zenstone which is the smaller version while the zenstone plus is 1GB and
those two might work different. I own both and I know there is a
difference. The zenstone plus or the 1 gb is not as easy to use as the
simple zenstone. The switch buttons on top are easier to use, but I do
like the larger capacity. But from your discussions, I have learned that
you can fast forward now I got to go chekc this out.

Now, hey Wallmart has the zenstone 2 gb for $53 and the regular for 33.
That so far is the best -price i have seen.

How I use mine is like this: I have friends in Australia and they send me
some funds to create for them audio and pod casts, lessons, stories and
so on. Instead of me just creating 20 cd's I just load up the zenstone
and send it off in a small envelope and they downlod everthing, sell the
zenstone there and send me back the monies. TThis so far is working ok.
My question is, is there a tiny flash drive that I might load up with
.doc and mp3 files both and send, for less than the cost of a zenstone?
Name, size and where to buy it would b neice.
Is there anything better than the zenstone.

Thanks all.

2008-03-05 Thread tickpub
Hi back, check out your sound settings in the main menu. There might be
soemthing in there. If that does not work, you might email the company
techs and present your problem to them. But, if your cassett is playing
fine upfront, then I bet they will tell you it is either your sound card,
or something to do with your speakers or settings. Maybe undo your
speakers and just try converting the file first. burn it to a cd and see
what it sounds like. But if the casset plays fine, I suspect something
else.

Have you tried different casstes. Maybe create a short test file and see
what it might do on maybe a brand new cassett.
Otherwise, I do not know more than that.
Also, try different files, mp3 first, then wave, different quality
settings and so forth.

There should be someone that knows more than I do about these matters.
Sorry I cannot tell you more.

Hi All, yes, the one gb has a radio in it. You just push the top left bar
twice down and the ridio goes on. You have to tune in by pressing the
right or left buttons off the center button and it works well.
The 2 gb is on sale or sells for $53 at WallMart right now. The zenstone
plus 1 gb and the 2 gb do have screens but I just get around by prssing
buttons.
I like the smaller zenstone better because it has buttons instead of a
bar but it does not have the radio or the capacity!
I like them both and that is it for me.

No, dont use the menue, just sort of learned the moves with the smaller

Re: Creative ZenStone

2008-03-11 Thread tickpub
I think you might be right, because I have both the zenstone 512? and the
zenstone plus 1gb and the smaller has the slide switch but the 1gb has a
push down bar which is a pain. but it has the fm radio which i really
don't care about. So maybe there are different types out there that I do
not know of but I'd rather have the switch back and forth like you have
only with the 1 gb or the 2 gb.
I'll shop around and ask and thanks.

Need a desk phone that does much!

2008-03-15 Thread tickpub
Hi All, ok, my desk phone went down, and I am looking for one that does a
few things: speaker, number save, and all the general little things
needed as large number buttons, redial, hold and a few otehr things if
one is out there. I know there are some shown in catalogues, but does
anyone have some ideas on really different and useful desk phones?
Thank you

Re: making a podcast

2008-03-22 Thread tickpub
Hi, making the pod cast is simple, depends on your skill and the quality
you want to create. If your on the road, use a digital battery run
recorder, the best I know of is an Olympis 40 or 50. You just press a
button, speak and it is saved as a wma file. You must then download this
to your com, send it out.
But there are others out there that can ttell you of a less expensive way
of doing this, but after all my personal research, I find that the
Olympis 40 does the job for me. I only wished I could have bought the 50
instead.
If you know how to work with sound editors, then you can really have some
fun. But just for simple recording and posting it on your own site, for
your own use, keep it simple.

Oh yes, the Olympis 40 or 50 are nice, go to BCT, they offer a link to a
sale on the 50 at this time. Yes, they are about 200 to 250, but well
worth it.

Magic Jack, need more data please?

2008-04-07 Thread tickpub
Hi All, you have been a great source of information for me, and now I am
looking into and have ordered the magic jack.
I would like to know how well it works, and is it an easy set up and if I
took it out of country, let's say Australia, plugged it into a com there,
could i then call back home? Or do we need to own two of them, making a
connection from out of country?
Can I store numbers into it on the com?
Can I use my com to dial out instead of actually dialing on the phone?
What else can someone tell me, please?

But will let everyone know as soon as i run the tests. I'll be as honest

Warning on Magic Jack so far!

2008-04-12 Thread tickpub
Ok, I tgot my Magic Jack, it all sounded so easysorry!
I am leary of anything that just says, plug it in and this is it.
No way, it should tell you that there is an exchange between the device
and the internet and some sort of download or files downlod.
I want some control over what goes into my com but not whith this and the
following took place
As we set up my phone to make the switch to MJ and all went well with
this and then we plugged in the MJ and it came up ok but then about a
minute into the wait and something was downloading or making a try at it,
my com locked up and it tells me that there is a conflict.

My Jaws was knocked out and there was nothing to do but start over.
I did make the mistake of not shutting down all my other programs such as
Magic 10, and Jaws 8 and maybe Word was running but the instructions
should have said something.
We started over this time, and now it tells me that we need to plug into
the USB but this was already done. So now we put the plug device into a
second USB plug and it repeats but seems to move on and we get to the web
site but now my jaws is gone and it will not restart.
I tried hitting my dial tone, it worked fine and hit a preloaded number
but no go.

We tried several more times, but now my entire system was acting slow,
and my jaws would not work properly.
I tried to find out what had downloded into my system but nothing called
Magic Jack could be found. I thought I might clean it out and start over.
There were some files anew but unnamed and had no idea what they went to
or what they might do.

So, got really pissed, redid my phone back to its regular place, and now
have made an appointment with my techy to come out this week and maybe
find what the heck has happened.

I will have to run a repair on my jaws and hope that will fix it.
I only hope that the rest of the programs might work and i am soon to
ttry.

Some of this could have been from me...because I did not shut down all my
programs.
Wehn my com locked up we had to reboot and somewhere in here we could
have goofed things up but still, my jaws program is most important and no
way can anything shut or take it over.

So, I gave the MJ to my son in law for a test on his com, he knows more
about this stuff than myself

So, so far I cannot recommend MJ to anyone who runs jaws or other speech
programs.

But I will test it out on my kids program next.
I run a XP-home Del with plenty of memory and plenty of space and that is
it for now folks
If anyone might know of a fix with this, please let me know.

Please...Re: Magicjack and Screenreaders

2008-04-13 Thread tickpub
Hi All, Ok, about Magic Jack, glad your doing ok with it. I tried it as
it so states in its set up and nothing went right.
So far, it has taken me two days to try and figure out what the heck went
wrong. I cannot find anything that it downloaded, this is necessary in
order to clean out my system and possibly try again. But here is the
really bad thing; all my sounds are gone now. I go into the sound
settings and try loading up one of my own or any other and no go. I tried
just setting one, like windows start and when I click the play button to
as if test the sound, a dialouge box shows and says that this media file
cannot be played because my sound card is now in use and as far as I
know, this is bunk.
My jaws works ok, but no sounds in any program. I use to get a sound to
notify me that I got email, now nothing; and so on.

So, does anyone know how to get my sound card working again?
I really would like to get MJ working but not at the expense of jaws or
any other interference.
Any ideas out there?

Hi, I would like to say the same if I could ever get to the point of
actually useing it.
Did you have any interference or shut down of jaws when you loaded up?
I run jaws 8 with xp-home, could this be my problem?

Re: So does Magic Jack work with JAWS?

2008-04-13 Thread tickpub
Hi, Magic Jack is a wonderful little device that allows a computer user
to call anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico and across the world if two
of them are used, all for free!
There must be a broad ban or fast DSL connection in order to use.
It simply plugs into a USB port and away you go, if your lucky!
For myself, I am having some problems trying to get it loaded up without
knocking down my sound. But for others, it seems to be just fine, but
that is my luck.

Re: So does Magic Jack work with JAWS?

2008-04-14 Thread tickpub
Wow, hope you can, got troubles here?
Ok, so far, something has happened to my soundcard so one error said.
No more sounds at all; not with windows boot up or start, no sounds when
I use to get them with new email, no nothing. I tried resetting them but
it tells me that it has something to do with my sound card.
Jaws works fine, and mp3 and wav files will play but none of my voices
other than jaws set voice will work. So apparently, trying to install MJ
created a conflict with my sound card.
Also, now textaloud and Dsppech will not function.
All this took place when MJ locked up my com.
I also would like to know what is Natural speak, does that work with the
soundcard?
Maybe it or some driver got knocked out???
So, first I must now solve these major problems in order to try MJ again.
Thank you and would appriciate any help at all.

Curtis, wow, those were the exact instructions I needed. Now got back all
my sounds and I'm a happy man again.
But, I have removed the MJ device and am not sure if I shold allow it any
nmore of my worries?
Does it do this reset each time you plug it in?
Once I plug it in and start useing it, do I have to reset this setting
only once?

I am so busy that I can't spend time trying to fix things I know little
about, so what do you think on going forward useing the MJ?
Does it have any more tricks under its buttons?

About Auto Sizer?

2008-04-16 Thread tickpub
Hi all and thanks for your help on my sound card woes, and it is amazing
to see how much everyone knows out there.
So, I want to know a little about some of these smaller free programs
like Auto Sizer and a thing called Macro Manager that allows you to use
the Windows keywith set keys to create macros to get here and there and
do scertain things.
Do any of these programs interfere with Jaws or cause slow downs or have
hidden agendas?
I would like the auto sizer but do not want any more woes to effect my
comn or work.
Got any suggestions on what smaller programs might assist but not cause
troubles?
Thank you,
MMM

Re: Converting cassette to mp3

2008-04-21 Thread tickpub
Hi, I don't know what your planning to use, but I bought this thing
called Plus Deck, its an actual tape deck that fits into your com and it
comes with the soft ware and it works great. If you got a lot of tapes to
convert over, this is the way to go.

Re: Magic Jack... Yes!!!

2008-04-22 Thread tickpub
Hi, I have been trying to work with MJ and had some problems so removed
it and finally got my system back up and working ok.
But now...you mention this:
I found my jfw.ini file and added the line to "lock" Jaws into using the
built-in soundcard on my motherboard.
I plugged the lowly piece of hardware into my USB port... And waited with
bated breath.
XP was a little confused at first, and asked me if I wanted to use this
device to copy pictures from a camera to my hard drive...
But meanwhile, the onboard software installed itself, downloaded updates
and
took me to the registration screen.

Why did you have tomake a change in jaws?
What type of software does it download, where are the files and what are
they named?
Does MJ interfere with anything else?
Could you explain in detail on exactly how to do this?
Do you mean that jaws no longer works with the elequence program or waht?
I would much appriciate any help.
Thank you,
MMM

Re: Accessible Digital Recorders

2008-05-14 Thread tickpub
Hi, I'm getting in a little late on this one but I did a ton of looking
around and listening and I eventually bought the Olympus 40. I only
wished it had been around a few years back, wow, it is nice, easy to work
and has many great features and tells you most everything you need to
know about how it works.
I only wished I could have afforded the Olympus 50, I find that I carry
around a lot of recorded data, pod casts and many muic and song cuts. Now
that extra space wold have been very nice. I totally recommend the
Olympus 40 or 50.
The price is fair and it is sstrong, well fits in the pocket and
justworks great. It runs on battteries and this is nice.
Ok, that is it for now, MMM

Hi back List, is there anyone out there that has actually used this TV

How does it work? Do you download the TV program and then waht?
Does it cause any troubles with Jaws, Magic or Open book or any other

This sounds good, and what are the cost of it all?
Thank you's,

Ok and Hi All, wow, been searching around for this TV on PC thing and
there are tons of sites that offer just about everything. The only thing
is, which ones will work with Jaws and not screw around with your drivers
and cause a hundred other problems. Does anyone know?
I do have some sight and have a large monitor with xp-home, Jas and Magic
and so on. Can anyone guide me to the best site to begin my TV PC
experience, I will pay but want the best and the one that works with my
com.

Thank you all,

Hi All, Ok, more TV JLC questions?
I would like to download this free program but before I do, I would like
to know a little more.
If there is anyone that can assist with its user friendly hints that work
with Jaws, please do so.
Upon download, is there anything to watch out for, or not to click on or
stay away from?
Once downloaded, does it interrupt jaws or shut down sound?
Magic Jack shut off my sound and reset files, does this JLC do any such
thing?
I use Englishfrom , USA and like to keep it all simple, is this possible?

Re: More questions about Is this TV thing real?

2008-06-05 Thread tickpub
Thank you for your thoughts.
I have been reading just about everything I could possibly find on this
TV PC thing. I have sent out emails to many tech people in the industry
but what I wanted to know is once you get the program into your computer,
does jaws work with it well, and to what level: good, ok, a little and
so forth?
There is a reason to my maddness, it is called money, costs and tech
fees! If my com system gets messed around, this is major woes for me, I
ain't no tech and have found it better to ask questions, and lots of them
first, research and if need be, bug people until I am satisfied enough
to involve my computer into this big wide world of things that might be
strange to me at this moment.
That is it!
So my friends, if there is anyone out there that can add just a little to
my knowledge base, this would be so much appriciated. And when I become
an expert, useing some of your ansers, I will do a pod cast for all those
ones, yet to come and are uncertain about such advances.

XP-home to XP-pro, jaws 8 upgrade?

2008-06-23 Thread tickpub
Monday, June 23, 2008
Hi everyone, just want to know.
I run Jaws 8 with XP-home. Also Magic 10 and Openbook. I am wondering, do
I have to upgrade Jaws if I switch to an XP-pro system?
Is there any ways around this if necessary?
Is there a fix to maybe make things work, I just don’t got the funds to
upgrade.
Thanks, any ideas would really help.

Re: XP-home to XP-pro, jaws 8 upgrade?

2008-06-24 Thread tickpub
Thank you, I like xp-home just fine but I wanted to get a used laptop and
they all come with xp-pro and they want an extra $100 to install xp-home.
I have a Del Desktop but they sent it without disks and I cannot copy the
xp-hoe onto any other of my coms.
Plus, it would have cost me at least a $1000 to upgrade all my programs
to xp-pro, so that is why I was inquiring if there was some kind of a
adaption.
Thank you,

2008-07-01 Thread tickpub
Hi All, got a question for you and hope someone can help.

How Record a sound cut-no actual file?

2008-07-02 Thread tickpub
Ok All and thanks for all your past helps.
I need to record some Russian sound bits for a story I am doing, on one
site, they have links and when of course you click the link the sound bit
plays and how do I get a recording from it? It plays with WMP is there a
way to just record it directly?
I can record it on my olympus but it won't be as good with other sounds
as the com running...?

Re: Creative zen 16GB drive

2008-08-09 Thread tickpub
Hi, I do not know much about this particular zenstone device but as far
as the others, if it works like my zen, you just plug it in and with
windows it shold appear in the my com folder. Just click on the zen
folder device and it shold open. You simply begin copying the files from
your audio files wherever they are and go over to the zen and paste them,
it should be that simple.
MMM that is all I know, if it gets more complicated than that, maybe an
expert can tell you more.

Re: Text to MP3

2008-12-30 Thread tickpub
I use a shareware program equal or better than textaloud. It is called
Dspeech. It is easy to use and handles all sappi voices and it works very
well. It has been developed by one man but did a pretty good job. You can
download it free and send in a donation as you so see fit.
Again, D speech. there is a POD cast on BCL site on it if it is still
there. You will have to do a search on where to find the program, I
forgot where I tgot it but the guy has his own site with several other
pretty good programs.
I have use every Text to MP3 or speech out there and this fits my bill
just fine.

your regeristry. So, from what I know you just download it to your rive
where you keep your programs, C:\ or ? and just click on it and it shold
then open. I think it sets up a shortcut key on your desktop, can't
remember but it is just an .exe or X file so it should open right up.
You can email the guy from his site and ask but I think it should be very
simple.
Once it is in your drive, locate it and right click on it an see what it
tells you there.
Sorry I cannot tell you more.

Re: Text to MP3

2008-12-31 Thread tickpub
I think there is a POD cast on BCT site on the Dspeech. But you can do
it two ways. from your text editor, copy your document and paste it into
the Dspeech editor. To do this just click AlrF for the file menu and hit
new and that will clear anything and bring a new editing field up. Just
paste your copy there and use the tab key to move around in the
keys. You can go through the menues and find the key help list and there
it tells you which keys to use to do what?
If you have the sappi voices from JAWS, you can use anyone of these on
the fly. The main work keys are the F keys.

You can also insert a document by hitting CTRO for open and tab down to
get to the folder and file you want to enter, hit enter and that file
will load. Work it over, sometimes you need to arrange the commas and so
fort to make it bread better. To convert it to an MP3 you open the file
menue and go down to convert to audio and there you will be given two
choices. Just tab to the MP3 and hit enter a but first make sure you save
it to your file of choice.
Listen to the POD cast, it gives more detail.

Sorry, but it works just perfect for me. You don't download the POD cast,
you listen to it on site. It is one of the most well used sites that
the blind use, it shold work without any problems. Maybe ask the list
what to do, I'm out of suggestions!

My opinion on Olympus WS-210S digital recorder

2009-01-08 Thread tickpub
Ok, hey, if your going to spend your money on an older Olympus 210? and
be limited why not wait a time and invest in the better Olympus 50 or
higher. I use the 40 and it is great, but wished I would have waited
andgot the 50 because of storage space. For I do a lot of recording and
carry around a good amount of audio files and so fort. So forget the 210
and move up and you won't be unhappy!

Re: transfering from cassettes

2013-09-06 Thread tickpub
I gave up on all those tricky switches and just went to Fry's and bought
a casset player that does it all. You just put in the tape, press the
right buttons an your tape plays and is saved on PC. You use the adocity
program to do the work. It was about $70 but i had at least 300 tapes to
transfer.
I guess you can do this with programs and a recorder but it was easier
for me this way.

2013-09-06 Thread tickpub
I'll have to wait until my wife gets home before reading the name or
brand. But it is not sold as a recorder in itself. The unit is designed
and sold as a casset transfer item. It is a standard item but not every
store carries them. Sorry, but if you inquire at any larger electronic
stores as to this type of machine you should get a name. That is all i
know for nowsorry!

Re: transfering from cassettes

2013-09-08 Thread tickpub
Sorry it took so long to get back; but the device I use is sold through
Fry's Electronics. I purchased it about a year back.
Grace digital audio player from Fry's It came with Adacity the free
program but this is the upgrded one I guess.
you need a trnsfer cable, which I think comes with the device. You put
your tape in, hit a hot key on adacity or whtever program you choose to
use and then hit a button on the device and it copies it as an me3 gfile.
It took me a bit of time to figure it all out but once I did, it worked
well and still does.

I have used just about every TTS program out there. The first one I use
to use was a thing called Dspeach. It is free, but the man askes for a
donation. It will work and does a good job. The one I finally settled on
was Text Aloud! I bought the upgrade and it does a nice job. But soon, I
am getting Open Book which is suppose to handle this task. But for now I
use TA!

Re: ezcap transfer

2013-10-29 Thread tickpub
Been there done that, not fun. I used one unit that I bought from Fry's
or Fries electronics for under a $100. It is an actual casette unit
player with all the goodies to make it work. I found it to be the best so
far. I use Adacity with it and it does well. I tried at least two other
inexpensive items that did not work and as you so say, were not worth the
cost of the box they came in.
I'm sorry that I do not know the name of this unit as of now, I am in the
middle of changing computers. But call a good computer or electrics
outlet and ask about this unit.

Re: Converting More Than One File At A Time With Switch

You have to get it from the web. Or I tried buying it again, updating the
older switch to my new com but Fries did not carry it at least at that
time. I just had my teck download it. I use the older version
professional on my XP home com but have not tried out my new version on
the 07 com as of yet.
It sells under some program company called NCLS or something like that.
But i have converted up to 25 files at once and it did well but that was
the professional version.

Re: marking memory sticks

2014-01-31 Thread tickpub
O wow, what I did was get one of those speaking marking pens. What you do
is stick a tiny round sticker onto the flash drive, hold the pen on it
and record whatever needs to identify what is on the flash or ? You can
put the size of the flash, space left and a list of files that can be
then read later.
I have at least 20 flash drives with all kinds of things on them and now
I just take that reading pen and touch the round button sticker and it
tells me exactly what I put onto the recording which is what is inside
the drive.
That was my work around method!

Re: marking memory sticks

2014-01-31 Thread tickpub
I think it is called the Pen Friend. Get hold of your local Commision for
the blind and ask them, they might give you one free. The cost is about
$150 I think?
They are great for all kinds of little things. I use mine for a list of
phone numbers. Instead of having to turn on my computer to look up a
number, i just click the dot and the list that I recorded is read to me.
I also list all my kids birthdays and special dates onto a tag, the tag
goes onto the frig and when I want to remember a birdthday of someone I
just let the pen read what I have recorded. I have also listed all my
CD's and flash drives. You can put as much material onto a recording as
you want. I played around with my wife and put a dot onto her forhead and
made suggestions of her IQ and her love for me...? ...Ha!

You can use it anywhere, on luggage or even in books for notes.
On TV for remembering what station plays what or when?
On Clothes, shoes, canned goods, stuff you put into freezer and more...

Yes, you just hold down one button and record away. As much as you like.
Then when you go back later and hold the pen over the glue on sticker it
reads back whatever you recorded.
