Hi all,

When listening to an archived commentary, is there a way to move forward and
back in a file? I can only find controls for "play", "pause", "stop" and a few
others.

Must observe that the audio is awful, but I guess one does become spoilt by
treats such as provided by the BBC.

Streaming cricket update

2007-12-23 Thread Stephen Jolley
The national broadcaster in South Africa has recently added to its live
streaming with Radio 2000. This station carries a range of programming
including live sport. It seems likely then, that South African home
international cricket will now be available online. All SABC streams can be
reached from http://www.sabc.co.za and following the radio link.

The first test of the South Africa vs. West Indies cricket series, commences
boxing day, December 26. Play begins at 10:30 South African time. This is 7:30
pm in Eastern Australia which is 8:30 GMT. You can find a link under the
"Special Events" heading on my page given below.

Listeners in Australia can link to the ABC radio coverage of Australia vs.
India from my page. From outside Australia, I understand that the best way to
reach the ABC radio coverage is from http://www.cricket.com.au/tv. Start time
is 10:30 here, which is 23:30 late Tuesday, GMT.,

The New Zealand vs. Bangladesh ODI series starts also on Boxing day and can be
accessed from NZ Radio Sport, also on my page. Start time is mid day in NZ,
10:00 am in Eastern Australia or 23:00 Tuesday, GMT.

Replay A/V - about Urls

2006-05-05 Thread Stephen Jolley
I've noted one or two posts from people extolling the virtues of Replay A/V but
noting that some Urls do not record. Here's an observation that may reduce
this short coming.
I noticed with a couple of sites "http://bbc.co.uk etc", though the "tune"
button played them, they did not record with the "Capture by Download" option
on the "basic tab" page.
After modifying the Url to insert "www" eg. http://www.bbc.co.uk etc and not
only the "tune" but also the "Capture by Download" worked. Seems funny but
true.

Cheers all,

Re: Replay A/V - about Urls

2006-05-05 Thread Stephen Jolley
They both have their pluses and I wouldn't toss either out.
For example, Replay A/V is great for scheduling streams and can of course
record more than one simultaneously.
Total Recorder Professional has terrific editing features for people like me
who don't want to do anything too fancy but just manage excerpts from files.
That's just touched the surface.
My point is, they're both pretty good. Very accessible and each having its
strengths.

Loss during file splitting

2006-05-26 Thread Stephen Jolley
When file splitting after a period of time eg. an hour, Total Recorder and

TR splits even on syllable and loses nothing.
Replay A/V seems to loose about 12 seconds of data.

Australian Rules Football on the BBC

2006-10-17 Thread Stephen Jolley
For those interested in the AFL match in London this weekend, read on.

Geelong and Port Adelaide meet in the AFL clash at the Oval this Saturday
October 21.

BBC London will be streaming live audio of the match.

Coverage starts at 1:30 London time, that's 10:30 Saturday evening in Eastern
Australia.

BBC London is one of the 40 local radio stations in England and like its
counterparts delivers lots of live sport all year round, on a range of
platforms including the internet.

For further details go to bbc.co.uk/london, click on 'sport' and then 'live
commentaries'. Or you can go directly to the info page at
www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2005/10/12/live_commentaries_feature.shtml.
That's where you'll find the link to the live stream.

Not sure what the standard of commentary will be, but hats off to BBC for
giving it a go. Such an initiative is to be applauded.

Good listening.

.Cricket in England with New Zealand followed later by South Africa. The
first test starts this Thursday, May 15.
.A week later, overlapping cricket when Australia start the first test in
the West Indies.
.Tennis, with the French Open starting on May 25.
.International Athletics including the Golden League which has the first of
six meets from June 1.
Later on there is Wimbledon tennis from June 23, British Open Golf from July 17
and US Open Tennis from August 25.

That's only what I know about.
Not confident about streaming of the Olympics and Euro 2008, but you never know.

If this is of interest to you, hold on to this message and keep checking my
page as that's preferable to troubling other list members, every time something
we already know about starts to move.

I know of no official international streaming of the Olympics.
The BBC audio and video streams are confined to UK audience only.
Similarly the massive CBS coverage is not available outside the US.
You never know what you might discover through any unauthorised feed.

Good luck.

Cricket - India v Australia

2008-10-10 Thread Stephen Jolley
Hi all,

Sorry I haven't responded sooner but have been out of contact over the last day
or so.

I am not aware of any audio streaming of this series.

ABC local radio has the radio but not streaming rights and is streaming
alternative programs while the cricket is on.

You might find video streaming with TV commentary from a search such as Google,
but be ware this can be misleading as it may merely only show up old data.

It is a sorry state of affairs that business factors get in the way of what
technology can provide. Things should be better from Australia, New Zealand and
South Africa over the coming months.

In the case of Australian originated cricket, in recent years the ABC stream
has been restricted to within Australia but Cricket Australia has made the feed
available internationally. We'll see in November what the story is this year.

Good luck to all,

Improved access to streamed AFL Live Radio

2013-05-30 Thread Stephen jolley
Hi all,

My page <http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams> has a
new feature.

Those who follow Australian Football and use AFL radio streams may be
interested in an additional method of access that I have configured.

For some time the AFL have used flash technology through its Match Centre
pages. These have been difficult for us to access directly from the AFL site
but are now available in a much friendlier way via my page.

Under the AFL section you can now link to a list of current matches. From
this list you can reach the AFL Match Centre page which lists the radio
stations covering that game with links to Flash streams when the
commentaries are active. A nice thing about this approach is that the
streaming delay is reduced so match that from at least Windows machines it
can be heard sooner than a digital radio broadcast. Mobile users of
Voiceover will find it more accessible than the mainstream AFL app as the
list of radio stations is spoken.

To reach the streams from your mobile device you can access the
<http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/afl-radio> page from this
link <http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/afl-radio> and use the
utilities dialog to add it to your home screen.

Good luck. I hope you find it useful.

Note, the previous method for accessing the streams from my page is
retained.

Try

http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams

Note that this is an Australian site so most football matches will only be
heard between 1:00 am and 8:00 am on the east coast of the USA.

Note also that Steve refers to Rugby League as NRL and there tends to be
multiple games at the same time and the ABC (Australian Broadcasting
Corporation) has 2 streams for each game.

International cricket can currently be heard from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm on the
east coast of the USA but as it is being played in England, the weather
might determine when or if there is any play on a particular day.

Australian Rules football may be heard between midnight and 10:00 am on the
east coast of the USA but be warned that this is a game whose rules and
terminology may be mystifying. It is a game that you need to have actually
played to be able to understand what is going on.

For that matter, cricket is also a game that you actually have to have
played to appreciate the finer points of what is going on and what the
terminology, tactics and strategies mean. Although it is not difficult to
appreciate the danger of a 5 ounce ball being bowled at you at 100 miles per
hour. If you calculate how long it takes a ball travelling at 100 miles per
hour to cover 22 yards of a cricket patch, you will get some idea of how
little time a batsman has to react to a ball which could be going behind, in
front of or (if he is not careful) directly into the batsman's body.

If you are interested in a more general audio stream about sport and have
the program tapin radio browse through the Australian streams for ABC
grandstand which is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's general sport
stream which covers all kinds of sports.

Replay Radio 9 does not appear to have the ability to setup a line-in
schedule as a scheduled event.

To capture the line-in sound you will need some kind of amplification. When
you connect the cable to your line-in jack to your computer my experience
has been that you should hear the actual audio sound from whatever external
source it is coming from within your computer's speakers. My experience
only. If you do hear the external audio sound source within your computer
then press enter key on the Quick Record button to start recording and to
stop recording press the Quick Record button again. Also note, alt+r+s will
also work to start a quick record and to stop a quick record simply press
the same keystroke of alt+r+s.

I can only speak about the service I use which is call My Private Network.
You can google that to find the URL if you would like it. With that
particular service, the country access depends on the package. I have access
to UK sites only for a mere 5 British pounds per month by the way.

On another matter, as I'll explain on the list shortly, I contacted Cricket
Australia today to let them know that the streaming wasn't working for
screen reader users. The person did seem to understand what I was saying and
assured me that it will be attended to along with other issues they have.
Let's hope it doesn't take them too long to fix it.

All the best,
Stephen

Just a dumb question, I understand that I don't need VPN for Cricket

Hi all,

It appears Cricket Australia have changed the interface to the Flash player
links to the stream and for this test it isn't working for screen reader users.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking what you're doing and for what you want
the $35.00 is quite appropriate.

The $60.00 is far more configurable and gives you more VPN protocols to use,
you can use a VPN for secure Internet browsing for example so its not
specifically just for listening to audio.

Now a question for you, does the $35.00 per year allow the user to have
multi sessions through different servers?

Say for example you can be listening to one radio station in the U.K. whilst
listening or watching/recording something else from the U.S.

Ashes cricket coverage improvement

2013-12-12 Thread Stephen jolley
Hi all,

Last week, it was reported that the Cricket Australia live audio streams are
now available world-wide. Unfortunately, between the first and second test,
adjustments to the website page removed access for screen reader users. It
is pleasing to report that CA have now restored the page to a state where it
is possible to find the play / pause button for each stream and access the
commentaries. When invoking the streams it is important to ensure that focus
is on the button. You still may experience unpredictability but with
persistence should get to the gold.

It is worth noting that an additional broadcaster is now in play. It is the
commercial organisation, Fairfax Radio. The Triple M network will also join
the group for the Big Bash League domestic twenty20 series from December 20.

You can reach the Cricket Australia Live Audio streaming
<http://www.cricket.com.au/live/audio-stream> page from my
<http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams> page.

Good luck and happy listening.

Streaming of Australian Open tennis

Hi.

To make this PC related, I use an XM PCR which connects to a PC via the USB
port. It's pretty nice, displaying title and artist of the channels.
Unfortunately, thanks to the infinite wisdom of the RIAA, it's not being
made anymore. They were afraid people could record the station's content to
their hard drives. Oh well, that's to explain why I sent this to the
PC-Audio list.

My question is what channel on XM is broadcasting the Australian Open
Tennis? I can get it through ESPN, but I'd like a play by play of what's
going on, and last year when I tuned in it was pretty good.

Thanks for any help.

Accessible Australian Football online and mobile

2014-03-13 Thread Stephen jolley
Hi all,

The new AFL season starts Friday March 14.

For screen reader users, navigating the AFL website
to live audio streaming is rather challenging and around the AFL app is
quite fiddley.

Here is a solution that may work for those seeking a better way.

>From my page
under the AFL etc. heading is a link to the 'Current match list
 '. There is still
in this area the pair of links to each radio service.

This 'Current match list
 ' link' brings up a
list of matches for the round , each of which takes you to the AFL Match
Centre page for that game with links to each of the stations covering it.

You may also like to copy (perhaps by email), the 'Current match list
 ' URL to your
mobile device and even save it on your home screen. This will give
convenient mobile access to any commentary underway.

Good luck,

Sheffield Shield cricket final

2014-03-20 Thread Stephen jolley
Hi all,

The Sheffield Shield final starts tomorrow featuring NSW and WA.

ABC radio will be there full time on their Digital Extra service with some
coverage between football on the normal Digital Grandstand.

Online it will be available from cricket Australia via the web and their app
or via the community radio SportFM in Perth. Links to the streams can be
found from my page
<http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams> . Pretty sure
streams will be available world-wide.

No, I don't know of any streaming of the ICC World T20 but suspect it will
be there for a modest subscription. Google may well track it down for you
after the start of the first match at mid-night: 15 Australian Summer time
on Saturday.

BBC iPlayer

Since moving to IE8 I'm having less success with the BBC iPlayer. Radio Console.

Even with IE7 Clicking on 'listen live' from Five Live brings up the console

I've had similar experiences with Radio 4 and BBC 7.

Does anyone have any experience and tips to pass on?

2006-11-29 Thread Stephen Jolley
The Davis Cup final between Russia and Argentina will take place in Moscow from
Friday December 1 to Sunday December 3.

>From "daviscup.com" you can click on the Davis Cup Radio link and follow down
>to the prompt for opening the player, for up to date audio and a live stream
>of the action when play is in progress.

Day one starts at 1:00 pm Moscow time. That's 10:00 am GMT and 9:00 pm where I
live.

Brit Chris Bowers and Australian Craig Gabriel are quality experienced radio
commentators.

So what that it may be on TV when there's live ball by ball on the net.

World Swimming online streaming

2007-03-24 Thread Stephen Jolley
The FINA World Swimming championships are currently taking place in Melbourne
Australia. The pool swimming starts today running through to next Sunday April
1.

The national broadcaster ABC, is audio streaming its radio coverage of the
finals sessions each evening.

The coverage start time varies from 6:30 or 7:05 through to 10:00 Melbourne
Time.

Subtract 10 hours for GMT. That is, tonight's broadcast starts at 8:30 am GMT.

The audio links can be found on abc.net.au/swimming.

2007-03-24 Thread Stephen Jolley
It appears from the info on the ABC streaming page which has only been
posted in the last hour or so, that the stream of the World Swimming
championships will not be available to people outside Australia.

Sorry, I hadn't picked this up.

Replay A/V query

2007-03-26 Thread Stephen Jolley
I'm finding that conversion of "rm" or "asf" files to mp3 is taking several
minutes (up to eight), and occasionally fails. These files are only one hour
or about 20 meg in size.

The problem persists even with latest versions of 8.08 and Replay Converter
2.75.

Anyone else's experience and suggestions would be appreciated.

Another Windows Media issue

2007-04-05 Thread Stephen Jolley
Hi All,

I am attempting to listen to the US Masters Golf through Masters Radio on
www.masters.org via Windows Media 11..

The link to the radio page is
http://www.masters.org/en_US/interactive/radio/index.html.

When I open the 'listen' link, the console is activated with its running time,
but the stream is silent. I rolled back from WM 11 to WM 10 in case it was a
DRM issue, but with no success. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers, Stephen

Refreshable Braille clock for broadcasters

2007-06-20 Thread Stephen Jolley
I trust this is not off topic as it does relate to broadcasting in a digital
environment and this list is rich with broadcasters and technical operators.

I'm looking for a way to monitor the current time by second. This was a very
handy feature of the Braille Lite, but I can't find any other way of doing it.

Pac Mate does have a stopwatch feature but this is cumbersome when you're
wanting a live cue, counting up to mid night etc.

Anyone with any bright ideas. Suggestions off list would be welcome.

World Blind Union General Assembly

2012-11-07 Thread Stephen jolley
Here is some info about Internet streaming including mobile access to the

>From this Saturday November 10 to Friday November 16, the World Blind Union
(WBU) and International Council for Education of People with Visual
Impairment (ICEVI) will be holding General Assembly events in Bangkok
Thailand. The best starting point for all information is the WBU website,

Once again, ACB Radio is providing live streaming and this will be via the
ACB Radio World channel.

You can get to streams and related info from my page under the 'Special
Events' heading

http://members.optusnet.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams.html

For mobile users, below is a link that works on iOS devices such as iPhone
and iPad and may on other platforms.

Opening the following link on your iOS device will bring up a Safari page
with two links. They are to two versions of the ACB Radio World feed, being
a high quality and a low quality link.

Good luck and good listening.

Aussie streaming of the cricket from India

There is an Australian sports comment and opinion website known as The Roar
<http://www.theroar.com.au/> . For this and the remaining fourth test, they

lead commentator is former ABC broadcaster, Glen Mitchell. The coverage is
sensible yet entertaining, with focus as one would expect on each ball.

Re: Replay AV

2006-03-03 Thread Stephen Jolley
Thanks Jonathan for that great review pointing us to Replay AV, a marvellous
product.

I am having trouble with the Convert to MP3 function.

>From the main screen, I can invoke the copy.
Can manage with a bit of mucking around in jaws cursor mode to select a file
and have it land in the playlist pain.
After invoking 'Convert to MP3' with spacebar, a dialog comes up with one
control, which is 'cancel'. The counter ticks over until reaching 100 %.
Then the thing stops. 'Cancel' is still the only control (not a 'finish' to
be found), and on hitting 'cancel' one returns to the previous screen and on
'exit', is back in the main screen. A '.mp3' file is nowhere to be found.

Does anyone have any experience of this function to relate in order to set
me on the right track?

Will be much obliged.

I do realise we can have the initial recording saved in MP3, but one doesn't
always intend to keep a recording and a format like 'rm' preserves the
original quality and uses minimal storage.

Re: Replay AV

2006-03-03 Thread Stephen Jolley
Thanks Jim.

After more testing, I think there may be a bug when trying to convert large
files to MP3.

I got it to work with a small WMA file and also had luck with a small RM
file.

Those I'm not having success with are RM files of about two hours duration.

Upgrading Replay A/V

2006-03-31 Thread Stephen Jolley
I'm currently using Replay A/V 7.04 and understand an upgrade is now available.
All that happens when I activate the Upgrade button is a dialogue that talks
about purchasing an activation code. Not sure how one is meant to upgrade to a
later version.
Would appreciate suggestions from anyone who has accomplished this.

Streaming cricket from the BBC

2006-04-22 Thread Stephen Jolley
The English season started this week and there's heaps of streaming audio of
international and county action available world wide between now and late
September.
bbc.co.uk/cricket may be a good starting point.
Details of online coverage can be found on the "Live cricket on the BBC" link
at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/counties/4923160.stm.

Australian Open Tennis in streaming audio

2005-01-16 Thread Stephen Jolley
The Australian Open started today Monday, and runs through to Sunday week,
January 30.
It appears there will be extensive coverage in streaming audio.
Playing times are from around 11:00 AM, (mid night GMT), to around 1:00 AM the
following morning, (14:00 GMT).
1.The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), is streaming radio
coverage from
www.abc.net.au/tennis.
Not sure what time this will start each day. This is continuous stroke by
stroke coverage.
2.BBC Five Live Sportsextra is streaming evening sessions from 7:30 (8:30
GMT). You might like also to keep an ear on BBC Five Live
www.bbc .bco.uk/fivlive,
for some updates and commentary of day sessions.
3.The official site
www.ausopen.org
is featuring one match per day. Click on the AO Radio link for details.
Great to see that not only is there coverage, but it is not restricted to one
particular provider.
To those who care, Have many happy hours listening, wherever you are.

Total Recorder question

2005-03-04 Thread Stephen Jolley
Normally Total Recorder will record to an 'untitled file' which must be saved.

There is a way to configure it to record directly to the file 'tr'.
Is someone able to prompt my memory? I'm installing version 5.1 but have had
to build the system from the start for reasons you won't want to be bored with.

Would appreciate a tip.

Re: recording live streams.

2005-04-19 Thread Stephen Jolley
Hi Joanne,
I use Total Recorder, and it meets all my needs.
If you have trouble connecting to the streams, make sure your "recording
parameters" (button to in main dialog) are okay.

The "recording source" must be "software" whereas from an externally
connected device like a hifi amplifier would be "soundboard".

In your volume parameters, you may have to have playback device set to
"total recorder".

Hope those tips help.

Hi. DJC recommended mediarecorder to me and I can't say enough about it!
I think it's pretty much limited to winamp and the streams you can pick up
with winamp, but DJC can correct me if I'm wrong there. It was a little
tricky to figure out the jaws commands when entering times, but once I got
it I really have had no trouble.

I also have total recorder which I think is more versatile as far as
working with media player and winamp, but I've not been able to figure out
how to get it to connect to the station. Setting the record and timer
functions was easy, but I can't get it to connect to the stream and I've
asked for help here but didn't get a response.

I don't have the exact website I got mediarecorder from, but I did a
google search and it took me to a download site.
