When playing Audible content (Formats 2 and 3 only), and you stop playing the book and move to another folder, your position within the book is retained! I think that the storage capacity of the player, and the fact that the quality of format 3 is quite listenable, makes the use of this format acceptable. check out this new and exciting business opportunity and it's totally free!!! http://www.mypowermall.com/Biz/Home/5847 Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Game Day Audio in Windows Media Player - not in browser ...
It's wonderful that you have sighted help at your disposal! But how about people such as myself who don't: I have advised mlb that the real problem is they changed the functions of the access and no longer is simple as a b c! They had a working page last year so that even a person like you can access the games without sighted help. Hopefully they have acknowledged my suggestions and will follow through with them so the rest of who do not have sighted help can access the games as easily as last year Aloha and happy accessing! No need to apologize, Beth! I guess since I covered the 10 version with 11 means I need to go back and remove it in programs and program files too? Also, where did you acquire the latest version if in fact that's the one you installed? I'm willing to try anything as long as it works! Thanks for your time. Re: Cingular and the Talks software
Hello Rick, It is wonderful. It works like this: Cingular will tell you that the Nokia 6620 is the only phone that can accommodate the Talks software. But that is not true. the 6620 is expensive; $300. But the software is free. You need to purchase the software from them up front and they will reimburse you after you send back their rebate statement saying you are blind. The $199 is credited to your account. Now as far as the software is concerned, it is wonderful. It uses Eloquence. All menus are accessible. It will even tell you how many items are in a list. You can adjust the volume, pitch, speed and punctuation through the Talks menu and submenu. I am very happy with it. If you need any more info, contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Leslie E. Problem with a particular podcast
I am using Winamp 5.5. Whenever I try to play a podcast downloaded as a .mp3 file from NPR: Story of the Day, I get the message that Winamp has encountered a problem and has to close. The file plays perfectly well in WMP or Realplayer, and I don't have this problem playing any other .mp3 file in winamp, just this particular podcast (as far as I can determine). I can't be sure if this problem began only after installing 5.5. But could that be the problem? I installed VLC, to give it a test drive. Can anyone tell me how to select an output device other than the Windows default device? In the preferences, under audio, I find a device selection spinbox. Yes, in braille. If you want each line and its associated checked or unchecked graphic read aloud, you still have to press the say line command, on each line, as you scroll from line to line; the up and down arrows alone, still won't read each line, as you move from line to line. Re: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things
Dane, Here's what I found: In the converter, F8 no longer works to start the conversion. You have to use the JAWS cursor to find the Convert Files button, and click it with the JAWS cursor. The button is located a few lines up from the bottom of the screen, toward the right side of the screen. In the burner, F8 still works to begin the burn. But, I found, it seems to take longer than it used to get the files you've selected loaded into the To Be Burned list box. Once they are, though, F8 starts the burn, and everything works just as it used to. Good luck. Re: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things
I don't think so. Mostly, I only ever rip CDs to my hard drive, and occasionally convert some files. I hardly ever do any burning, any more. I was perfectly happy with 9.1.3, and only upgraded to 10.5 after they fixed the problem with JAWS tracking in the track selection list box. If I hadn't found an easy work-around for triggering the conversion function in version 11, I'd still be using 10.5, as I continued to use 9.2.3, until 10.5 was released. Dane, Glad to help. And, thank you for alerting me to the change. As I said in my last message, I mostly only ever use the program to rip CDs to my hard drive. But, occasionally, I will convert some files. If you hadn't alerted me, I probably would have been happily ripping away with version 11, and been very surprised and frustrated when I did, eventually, want to do a conversion. Re: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things
Doc, On the other hand, I see no reason not to upgrade, as long as I don't lose important functionality as a result. With the simple work-around I found for version 11's converter, I see no reason not to stay up to date. BTW, did you see my earlier post, in which I explained how you can tell which tracks are selected in the ripper, in versions 9-11? Well, first of all, the file extension should be .e x e, not .e x, as you wrote below; but that might just be your typo, below. Second, I don't know why this should make a difference, but I'd try running the installation program from your desktop, rather than your dl folder. Also, before you do anything, I'd do a hard reboot, just to start from a presumed default state of your machine.\ Good luck. I'd be happy to test drive it if I could figure out how to get it to output through my secondary sound card (the good one). (No sense test driving it through my el cheapo desktop speakers.) Okay. I'm not sure exactly what a read offset is. But I get your point about tailoring the software to the brand/individual drive. As I said, I've been very happy with Easy CDDA, especially since they introduced the AACPlus format (I rip everything to AACPlus, 192). And, as I've already paid for the professional version, and am thoroughly familiar with its interface, I'm not eager to start from scratch with another product. But, maybe, in a few months, when I've paid off some other expenses, and am feeling bored, I'll give it a whirl. I assume they offer an evaluation copy/period. Thanks for the suggestion. Re: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things
Well, in several tests I ran, when Easy CDDA first began supporting AACPlus, files I ripped in this format were significantly smaller than the same material ripped at the same bit rate, in any other format, even other implementations of the AAC format, such as Apples m4a. also, although no one has yet been able to explain this to me, when I rip to AACPlus, even though the sample rate is set to 44khz, the files produced report 88KHZ. Finally, whether for this reason or another, files ripped to AACPlus just sound more present, to me, than files in any format that isn't AAC, AND, as I said, AACPlus files are significantly smaller than any other AAC format. Re: Ripping, Copying and EncodingRE: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things
When I tested the MAD decoder, I was quite impressed with how much better it made mp3s sound. but, since I had, long before that, already reripped my entire CD collection to AACPlus, I wasn't about to revert to mp3, even with MAD for playback. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2007 5:17 AM Subject: Ripping,Copying and EncodingRE: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things Media Player etc are probably fine for most people but in my situation where "perfect rips" and "perfect copies" are a "must have" then Media Player and others are just out of the race. As I said before, those people who are sticking with Easy CD DA Extractor (that includes Yorus Truly) are on a pretty good thind I reckon but still, Exact Audio Copy and Max Ripper are the only things I've tested which do "perfect rips" and "perfect copies" of audio CD'S. Compression? Well Danna sort of had it right and I reckon her ears are functioning , AAC+ is a damn good standard, its regretable that (unfortunately) EAC doesn't (as far as I know) support AAC+ internally so you have to run an external encoder, either that or do your rips with EAC (as Wave files) and convert them with something like Easy CD DA extractor which will let you do thousands of files in a batch as everyone knows, that almost defeats the purpose but still the rips are more accurate. EAC is (if set up correctly) considerably slower than Windows Media Player, taking say 7-10 minutes to rip a CD however this speed reduction is due to the comparison ripping the programme does, reading and re-reading each sector and comparing the values, I was also interested to read that Exact Audio Copy will handle copy-protected audio CD'S, not that you see too many of those round these days I don't think. Now for those who will sware by MP3 till their "dying day" well I admire your courage and (whilst I admit that MP3 is getting a bit long in the tooth now) you can get some very nice quality out of LAME if you tweek it, that means not using the defaults offered to you by your ripper. If you're using Winamp to play your MP3 files then it pays to use the MAD MP3 output plug-in, you'll hear the difference and MAD is not the only great MP3 decoder for Winamp either. VLC'S decoder seems to be rather nice. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of albert griffith Sent: Thursday, 22 November 2007 8:19 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Easy CD DA Extractor: they've changed things Exact audio copy was developed by a good programmer who really likes his tracks to be ripped neatly. It's a good program but I like the media player as well if I'm ripping to a format they support. Example: I've ripped 500 disks in the last two weeks with it and it's been a breeze. I just push in the disk drawer and away it goes and ejects the disk when the ripping is complete. EAC. has this drive off-set stuff and while it makes files look better on paper, I can't hear a difference. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dana S. If I had the space, I would rip everything to FLAC. But, If I did so I couldn't fit all my hundreds of CDs onto my two 300 gig external drives. With AAC+, I can. Ah, but you see, I prefer to play all my music, using Winamp, directly from the AAC files on my external drive, and keep my CDs stored for archival backup. That way, I don't have to go fumbling through hundreds of CDs to find a particular track. Until recently, I think, Winamp wouldn't play from DVDs.
