Still Looking For Help With Winamp
Hello list: I assume that not many people saw my original post, concerning a problem I'm having with Winamp since I re-installed it over the weekend! So I shall repost it again in hopes that someone can tell me how to fix this: if I'm listening to a file in Winamp; then I want to skip ahead, using the arrow keys, I get a horrible noise that I cannot get rid of..except if I restart the computer! Even shutting Winamp down won't stop it! Also, I notice that if I have Winamp playing at low volume, I'm hearing some white noise; it's like a "hissing" sound! Hopefully somebody can tell me what to do; I think it's something maybe in preferences that needs to be either checked or unchecked; whichever the case, I very much would like to be able to get this resolved! And I'm sure there are many on this list who use Winamp as their player of choice, so please feel free to jump in there and let me know what I need to do? Re: Still Looking For Help With Winamp
tom, You could try an alternative output pluggin. go to prefferences control-p, press letter P till you hear plug ins, press O till you hear output, then tab to the list, there is a waveout, and a direct sound. Select the plugin that is diffedrent to the current one, tab to close accepting the default settings. see houw your audio sounds after this change. Then maybe try playing the same file in, for example, windows media. don't know how you fast forward in WMP though. good luck, Joe At 19:41 04/07/2012, you wrote: Hello list: I assume that not many people saw my original post, concerning a problem I'm having with Winamp since I re-installed it over the weekend! Hi Tom, I think that you downloaded the wrong Winamp. I think that you downloaded the Winamp for Mac Sinc, which is version 07.3. The version that you need is 5.6 for Windows. If you can't get it let me know, and I'll gladly send it to you. - Original Message - From: "Tom Kaufman" To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: Still Looking For Help With Winamp
Hey Joe and list: Thanks for responding; may give this a try! Just to clarify something: the actual "sound" isn't so bad; it's just that, if something is playing at low volume; let's say I want to listen to a stream that doesn't play at a high volume, I'll get that static (or hiss) or whatever! For those who don't know, in Winamp, to advance through the file, you can hit either the left or right arrow key (I know it works this way with Jaws) may be something different with other screen readers; anyhow, one can also hold that arrow key down to advance through the file quicker; it is here that gets me into trouble as I get that bad sound! But will try Joe's suggestion (unless I get one that may be better) and see if this clears up the problem (I've had this happen a long time ago) but don't remember how it was resolved! Alt-O, down-arrow once to Recording Source and parameters, tab to Advanced (Recording source should be at "Software"), Check the checkbox "Record also input stream (InternetTelephony only)," you can then select if you want each voice in a different channel or not, tab to OK, then tab to "Recording format change" if you want to change the recording format, say to MP3, then go to OK and give the format a name, which you will use next time. Like I said, I already *have* the tool of choice, and want for no other. I've said this a thousand times on a thousand lists: If you can't answer the question put to you, save us all a lot of trouble and skip to the next message. I know all about Clownfish and Skype Recorder and this and that, and if I wanted to use those, I'd be asking about them. But my client wants to do it with Total Recorder and, frankly, so do I, and I know it can be done because I know folks who are doing it quite successfully. And to prove I give as good as I get, when I get the solution, I'll post it here in egregious detail so we'll all know how and can pass it on to the next slug who comes through needing that info. Re: Anybody have experience with Total Recorder and Internet Telephony?
Thanks, Humberto, that's a very fine boiled-down version of the tutorial whose URL I posted (and then corrected) recently. Trouble is, I followed every step, but got nothing when I recorded. I tried starting a Skype call before I started the recorder, and after. A whole lotta nada. Very strange. Am I supposed to select the recording profile I created before recording the call? I actually thought I did that, too. Back to the drawing board I guess. I haven't been following this thread, but it seems to me like people are just trying to help. Did you explain in your original question that you tried all of these different options? I can't tell since you didn't include the whole thread below. Seems to me like it would be more effective if you just politely mentioned that you tried these options and you really are just looking to do this with TR. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure I'd be too interested in providing the answer after a message like this. After all, I'm not paid to provide customer support on this list. I'm guessing I'll get flamed for this, but I'm just making some suggestions on how best to get your question answered. Re: Anybody have experience with Total Recorder and InternetTelephony?
I think it's perfectly OK for someone to provide an answer without necessarily providing the link. Not every utility I have on my system has an easy way to grab the link from where I found that utility. I assume the person asking the question can use Google just as much as I can. If after looking for it, they're having some trouble finding it, then I may be able to help out. Of course, if I have the link handy, I'll also send it along, but I don't see anything wrong with this answer. None of us are paid to provide customer support on these lists. If you don't like an answer then use the delete key. On 04/07/12 19:44, Mac Norins wrote: > OK, you are another one; what's the URL, for this tool? RE: Anybody have experience with Total Recorder and Internet Telephony?
Hello Steve: If that doesn't work, go to Alt-O and the first choice, which is Settings, then the second line, which is Driver, tab a couple of times and select the devices for listening and then microphone. In my case, I use Logitech headset for both, but you may select different. Play with that, because I remember that gave me headaches for a while, until I found it; it's like anything else, easy once you find it. Thanks for your opinion. -Original Message- From: Christopher Chaltain Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2012 7:28 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Anybody have experience with Total Recorder and InternetTelephony? I think it's perfectly OK for someone to provide an answer without necessarily providing the link. Not every utility I have on my system has an easy way to grab the link from where I found that utility. I assume the person asking the question can use Google just as much as I can. If after looking for it, they're having some trouble finding it, then I may be able to help out. Of course, if I have the link handy, I'll also send it along, but I don't see anything wrong with this answer. None of us are paid to provide customer support on these lists. If you don't like an answer then use the delete key. On 04/07/12 19:44, Mac Norins wrote: OK, you are another one; what's the URL, for this tool?
