Re: Laptop and sound
Hi Peter, An external USB sound card with a line out will do what you want. You can have JAWS come through the internal card and your music come through the external one. I'm not sure what is currently available regarding USB sound cards so don't have a specific recommendation. Perhaps others can advise. I apologize if this has already been answered, and that I don't have any recommendations. I don't know of a laptop that has two sound cards but you should be able to do what you want with a USB attached sound card. Hello, These days laptops work amazingly well. Saying this, there are, as far as I know, no expansion slots in which to put a second sound card. Whatever laptop you ultimately get, you must live with the soundcard which comes with it. Even so, the soundcards I heard work well enough for most applications. I'll look forward to other thoughts. Hi. I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit home edition on it. I have two sound cards on it, the internal one and one by a company called Startech. I use JAWS on the internal card, and have everything else on the external card. The external card cost me around $30. It connects to the PC via USB. It has two mic inputs and at least one line in jack that is a walkman type. I've been very pleased with it. Don't work too hard. GO REDS! Re: Laptop and sound
Hi folks. I have another question related to this topic. I have a del lap top, and have never been able to get any audio playback from my line in jack on my sound card. I think the brand is IT Audio, if I'm not mistaken. I tried an external sound card, thinking that would help, but never got any audio that way either. To clarify, I hear sound from play-back of CD's and internet audio and windows sounds fine, but if I'm trying to record something, I can't hear it coming through the sound card, until while I'm recording it. Hope I've made sense here. Re: Laptop and sound
Hi, Check the volume settings. Make sure that the line input is not muted or you won't hear anything from the card, even if sound is being recorded. This should be true for both the internal and the external soundcard. Hi. What operating system are you using? If it's XP I can help. If it's later than that I'd like to know how to find the devices on my laptop running Windows 7 64 bit home edition to adjust mic and line in volume settings. Squeezebox apps for the Ipad
Hi! Just been playing with a Super Duper Ipad app for a Squeezebox system called Ipeng HD. This app allows you to control just about every aspect you can possibly think of regarding your Squeezebox system and when I say just about e everything I mean exactly that, just about everything, you can even use the app to switch one or more of your players to different sources and until now the only way of doing that was to go to each player and switch it from the menu. By music sources I mean one or more Squeezebox servers or your "My Squeezebox" account so being able to control this feature is a huge step forward for me at least with the system. Other people on this list use the Squeezebox system with various Squeezebox players including Boom and Duet so they perhaps may wish to comment further. I've already written a piece on my experience with the Squeezebox Boom on my blog at ,http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com> and will be writing more shortly. Dells' usually have some kind of Creative Sound Blaster intigrated audio. It could be that input monitoring is turned off. Go to Windows Mixer properties and see if there is something in the playback list for monitoring and make sure it is checked.
