Amplifiers with network plug

2010-10-30 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
I'm not sure if this is on topic or not.
I'm considering a new amplifier for Audio and home cinema. One of the
connections into the amplifier is a hard wired network connection. The unit
upscales video apparently (not a concern to me being blind), but is there any
way this network connection can be accessible. I know the machine won't talk,
but:
1. Am I likely to be able to stream video and audio from the net or my network
PC? Or will it just work with audio?
2. Even if it doesn't speak, can I access one particular folder in my Network
PC so that using the remote for the amplifier, I can go through the files in
that folder even if I can't hear which is which.
3. Is there an;y other benefit for a blind person in having a network
connection in an amplifier e.g. can I set my computer to stream and pick it up
with the amplifier?
Thanks if anyone is able to supply an answer.

Hi!

Just thought I'd write down a few notes on this recorder and how it
integrates with the Mac computer, for a full review on this excellent
piece of equipment please visit http://www.blindcooltech.com to hear Neil
Hughes putting the H1 through its paces or take a look at my blog for
further information.

The H! is a high quality audio recorder which records in either of 2
formats, MP3 or Wave. When recording in Wave format you can mark
positions in your recording by pressing the play button.

In Neil's review he talks about how these marks are compatible with Sound
Forge - if you copy the file across to your computer you can open the file
with Sound Forge and locate the portions of the file you marked whilst
recording on the Zoom H1 whilst pressing the play button.

That's all very nice but what if you're using the Mac? I've just ben
recording with the Zoom H1 and inserted a fair few markers, all of which
Amadeus Pro found in the wave file created without a problem, you use
option left and right arrows to move between markers, use command-left and
command-right arrows to select from one marker to another etc.

When the Zoom H1 is connected to a USB port of your Mac it is detected
without a problem and you'll see it as a drive in the main finder Desktop
window. Copying from the H1 is perhaps a little slow but not too bad, the
Victor Reader Stream for example is at a snails pace compared to this.

You're supposed to be able to use the Zoom H1 as a sound device when
connected to a computer via the USB cable, so far I've not managed to get
this to work.

Re: Amplifiers with network plug

2010-10-30 Thread Brent Harding
I don't know that they'd have software to add a sound driver to use the
network to stream to it. I'd say it's probably for getting stuff from the
computer or Internet, but you'd probably have to use their menus and the
like to do it, sort of like what TV's are doing now where you can watch
stuff from online, but you control it with the TV.

Hi!

I'm no expert on these but I do believe that some of the Denon models which
have this feature are accessible, you log into the amp through your web browser
and you can set up the menu system and everything there.

 Hi!

Does anyone else have one of these wonderful devices and if so do you
have the AC power adapter for same?

I'm curious, where does the adapter plug in? We cannot get them out here
in Australia so I'm going to have to find a substitute somehow.

Does anyone know what voltage the thing is?

Yes it records in stereo and you could connect it to a mixer to record from
it.

2010-10-30 Thread Dane Trethowan
Added to this from my experimentation it will only record in stereo, that is to
say you can't make a mono recording.
