Hi,

when you play something, you're downloading info right? when you get email,
stream a file, download a file, even if you get a signin on skype, that's
downloading.

accessible podcatcher downloads, and buffers while downloading the file.
not sure if it deletes the file after one closes the program or not.

Subject: IPhone

Hi Pamela and others,
I have been using the IPhone 3GS for a little over a year and have
upgraded
the 3GS up to 4GS software a few weeks ago. I am totally blind and find
it

easy to use the touch screen. However, it did take a few weekends of
intence practice. Once learning where things are on the screen and most
common finger swipes, using the IPhone got easier.
I was one of those who thought it crazy for a blind person to use a touch
screen. You can buy a 4GS with bilt in voice over for 16 gigabyte
$199.99.
They now have two plans for the data package that is necessary for the
voice

over. The data packages are $15.00 or $25.00 per month.

So Pamela, now you can just walk into a cell phone store and buy a phone
with voice over like anyone else. It did feel really nice to finally have
the same opportunite as most others shoppers in a cellphone store.

It is true you don't get much of a choice as far as size or shape in
regards

to the Iphone but neither does anyone else. You can however choose types
and colors of hard shell or soft cases. Pamela, If you choose to buy a
Iphone I would be willing to help you learn how to do the basics including
dialing a number, answering, hanging up, closing applications and texting.
For that matter, I would be glad to help anyone over the phone. If you
email me off list I can contact you via secondary phone like your home
land

line and work with our IPhones over a speaker phone etc. It isn't really
that bad. but may appear such at
first.

Olympis Digital Recorders

2010-07-20 Thread Kris Hickerson
Hi All,

Well, I'm considering one of the Olympis digital recorders, the question is,
which one.

I think there was a series of them ending in 30, 40 and 50. I've seen the
30 and the 50. However, I think there are several newer ones since then and
what I need to know is how do they differ in size, features and cost?

There are other brands also, but there are just to many to keep up with.
Perhaps I should tell you what I want to do with it maybe that would help
you guide me in the right direction.

I'm a storm nut and I want to record thunder without it being distorted. I
want something small that I can just grab and go when I need it. I may use
it for general notes and things, too, but capturing thunder and transferring
it to the computer is my main objective.

Any advice and recommendations will be appreciated.

RE: Olympis Digital Recorders

2010-07-20 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
If I recall correctly, the Olympus 30/40/50 recorders have
automatic-gain-control, which means sudden, loud sounds (just like
thunder) would probably get distorted.
I believe the model 71 has the option for no AGC. I don't know about the
DS520 (or is it 540?)
