I can't find the history of this thread where you say what product
you are working with and what version of Windows you are running.
Is it the 64 bit OS? Do you have 4MB of RAM or more?
Also, which version of the drivers have you tried? Windows 7 is
a big problem area for Creative right now. Have you tried the user
forums at Creative Labs?

digital recorders

2009-12-19 Thread Howard Traxler
Thanks to all who commented. I guess I'll be looking closer to the Olympus 520
and 420. The highest quality I want is when I bootleg concerts on occasion.
Otherwise it'll be mostly voice: meetings and such. Would like to be able to
use external mics and line in as well as to feed the output to my stereo.
Would like direct transfer of files between it and computer.

Thanks again.

Finding copy of Cakewalk-Sonar 8.0 Downloadable that canbe registered with Cakewalk CompanyS

2009-12-19 Thread JardataMailServices
Hello List!

I recently went on Google to find a "cheap" copy of Cakewalk-Sonar 8.0 Producer
Edition and was able to find one from a well-known Software Company; however,
when I installed the program, with the supplied serial key being accepted, the
program asked me to register the product with the Cakewalk-Sonar Company by
getting a registration code via email from their site. I put the registration
info into their registration form, but the cakewalk company rejected the code
as not legitimate for the product I was trying to register. Meanwhile, I
actually purchased the 8.5 upgrade/update with the serial key supplied by the
internet company I purchased the product from. I didn't buy the product from
cakewalk-sonar, but they tell me I have thirty days to register the product.
Why should I have to register with them when I bought the product from someone
else. The company I purchased the product from looked just like them in their
offerings, along with many other products. I take it I only have to register
once, but my upgrade product is also linked to the rejected serial key. I paid
only about half their asking price for the product. I don't feel I should be
responsible for their product sales. I take it that all they want us to
register for is to provide us with free upgrades and info. That is fine and I
have purchased an upgrade from Dancing Dots, which should be registered with
them; this, however, does not help with the old full copy of cakewalk-sonar 8.0
producer edition. I want to use my legally purchased program without having to
hear their registration message each time I open the product.

What is my remedy for this situation. How can we tell what copy of a product
is legitimate or not? I may sue them if they try to cancel my duly and legally
purchased software because my number does not match one in their database; if I
had bought it from them, I guess I would have a number in their database.

Question:

What is the work-around for this. That program cost from $300 to $600 at their
full price; I got it for around $99, plus $15 for the upgrade to 8.3.

Solution:

If I can't get them to accept my serial key, I guess I may have to purchase or
find a full copy, with a registered serial key with them from sonewhere. If
any knows of a company that sells this product at a similar price as I got it
for, please let me know.

Yep, no problem with those at all. Actually Goldwave supports just about any
format so long as there are plug-ins around for it to use.

Re: Audio Editing software

2009-12-19 Thread Allison Mervis
The trial version is a fully functioning copy of the software. So basically,
if a file format isn't supported in the trial version, it's not going to be
supported once you buy it. I've never heard of mpm format, and I don't
recall seeing it in the list of supported file types. However, if you change
your selection to "all files" in the files of type combo box, it may still
open them. It works for avi files.

Re: Audio Editing software

2009-12-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Are you trying to open a MP3 or save to MP3? If saving then select file menu,
select save as and you'll find "MpEG MP3 Audio" as listed as one of the formats
you can save to.

When opening a file selected "All supported formats" in the file type of
Goldwave and you should be able to locate MP3 files.

If that doesn't work then you don't have the LAME-enc.dll file in your
"c:\windows\system32" directory. LAME is a MP3 encoder which is freely
available.

but it's also pretty expensive.
Gold wave is the cheapest and has basic sound editing functions, and
is also pretty accessible.

That should be there then. They might call it "mpg layer 2 *.mp3 or
something weird, but it's there.

The trial version is a fully functioning copy of the software. So
basically,

if a file format isn't supported in the trial version, it's not going to
be

supported once you buy it. I've never heard of mpm format, and I don't
recall seeing it in the list of supported file types. However, if you
change

your selection to "all files" in the files of type combo box, it may
still

open them. It works for avi files.

Yep, no problem with those at all. Actually Goldwave supports just about
any format so long as there are plug-ins around for it to use.

radio reference.com

2009-12-19 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,
I think i am having an audio feed or audio player issue with radio
reference.com.
Has anyone ever used this sight to listen to audio feeds of scanners?
Every time i load it winamp says resolving host, resolving host.
Any ideas?
I tried pressing enter on a link, i heard the sound of the audio stream for
about 5 seconds, and then it crashed my browser.
What i did is went to radioreference.com, and clicked on mobile, since the
mobile sight is easier to navigate.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jed

RE: digital recorders

2009-12-19 Thread Dave McElroy WA6BEF
I just don't think you could go wrong with the Olympus DM520 for what you
say you want and it has a less hefty price tag than the Plextalk. Of
course, I was actually happy with the DS50 I had until it was stolen; but
realistically the DM520 is much superior. So I guess it all depends.

Thanks to all who commented. I guess I'll be looking closer to the Olympus
520 and 420. The highest quality I want is when I bootleg concerts on
occasion. Otherwise it'll be mostly voice: meetings and such. Would like
to be able to use external mics and line in as well as to feed the output to
my stereo. Would like direct transfer of files between it and computer.

Thanks again.
Howard

Hi. No, I'm just using old venerable XP service pack 3 and 32 bit. The
sound card is the extree audio. But I guess I'm stuck getting an outboard
mixer or maybe changing files individually with something like Goldwave.
