If you are not worried about the storage capacity, get it. you don't get the remote, but to save $100.00 you may think it is worth it. I like mine! As with zipped files. You have to decompress them first. I recommend winamp, for all filetypes. It plays a lot of them, and a personal favorite format of mine is .ogg. You can get 64 kbps with no problem, it sounds like nearly 96 kbps mp3 quality. the best thing is to get Winamp. It will play most all of them. You have to extract them. Rar is a compression program like zip and unzip. I know that one way is to use the normal cut & paste method for each cut which works fine if you have just a few cuts. That, of course, would be very tedious if you have a lot of stuff. I know the program has a way to extract a whole file, but I've never had a need to do that, so I never checked on it. It's a shareware program, but I think you get 30days to try it. Good question. I recently found that files I recorded to MP3 with Nexus Radio sound much better in Winamp than Windows Media Player 10. However, I generally prefer Windows Media Player for most formats. I've managed to set it up to not over compress music, something people complain about with WMP. Winamp is a bit more clear but I find the highs a touch harsh, even with uncompressed media. I also love the built in SRS WOW! surround process in WMP 10. There are 3d sound plugins for Winamp as well but not as easy to use.
