Good question. I recently found that files I recorded to MP3 with Nexus Radio sound much better in Winamp than Windows Media Player 10. However, I generally prefer Windows Media Player for most formats. I've managed to set it up to not over compress music, something people complain about with WMP.
Winamp is a bit more clear but I find the highs a touch harsh, even with uncompressed media. I also love the built in SRS WOW! surround process in WMP 10. There are 3d sound plugins for Winamp as well but not as easy to use.
