Re: need mp3 player suggestion.

2008-03-20 Thread Samuel Wilkins
I am also thinking of getting an MP3 player. Could someone please give me a
list of MP3 players that are accessible, both speaking and non-speaking.
Also does anyone know the price of Rockbox?

LG VX-8350 Cell Phone And Winamp

2008-03-20 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
Hello List Members,
I am asking a question that has probably never been asked before.
I have a new LG VX-8350 cell phone, but I am finding it a pain to use Windows
Media Player and V-Cast Music to load music on to the MP3 player that's built
in to the phone.
I am wondering, could I use Winamp to sink music or any other audio files on to
this phone?
Thanks in advance.
  John.

Re: need mp3 player suggestion.

2008-03-20 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Rockbox is open source, so there is no price. Getting it installed and
working takes some research and effort though. It's not like installing
an application for Windows. You can check it out, as well as find a list
of supported players, at rockbox.org.

As far as inexpensive, smaller off the shelf players, I'd recommend the
1GB Zen Stone. It doesn't talk, but there's no display, so it's totally
accessible. It also doesn't require any proprietary software to copy
music to the player. It runs about $30. There are other Zen Stones, so
make sure you're getting the one without a screen. It also doesn't come
with an FM radio. Once you get into the Zen Stones that have displays
and FM radios then their accessibility becomes problematic.

There are other options, but these are the ones I personally use and
recommend, i.e. Rockbox and the Zen Stone.

Re: need mp3 player suggestion.

2008-03-20 Thread Keith Gillard
Hi,

Rock box is open source thus it's free.

Check out the deal at www.rockbox.org

Another great multi purpose unit is the Victor Steam from Humanware:
www.humanware.ca

It's not cheap but it does it all:

It also has an internal speaker which has been improved with the release of
the latest firmware.

Many other non speaking units are available.

I hear that the creative Zenstone is a decent player at a good price.

Good luck.

Hi Jeff,

If i were to keep the VLC Media Player how do you get it to play the full
movie? It would keep getting stuck on the theme preview to the movie, but
would not move forward and I could not find anywhere how to play, stop,
forward, rewind, etc. Thank you and also thank you for the suggestion
regarding WMP.

2008-03-20 Thread Lauren
Hi Jeff,

I just went to the control panel, to folder options and file types. Under
dvd video, Jaws says, "none, dvd video". i entered on advanced and it gave
me only 3 options, "play, play using power dvd, play using power starter."
How do I get WMP in there?

Thank you for all your help.

I did not see anything about .vob.

Hi:

I'll speculate that that is not the problem of the media player.
The theme you are seeing is accompanied by a menu for sighties
to click through to the different chapters etc... There is no
standard formenus.
I'm on a call right now, but I'll try to send you some info
pertaining to the player itself

 Hi,
I can't tell you anything about the list, but I often use WMP 11 to
 play
DVD movies. In most cases, it's a matter of hitting cntrl S to stop
 the
initial play, followed by cntrl P to start the commercials before
 the
movie. In many other cases, merely hitting enter will start the
 movie.
Your friend may be experiencing the screen that asks you to select
 which
version of the movie you'd like to watch, such as theatrical, behind
 the
scenes, final edit etc. It largely depends on how the movie studio
 set
 up
the DVD and of course, a number of features may not be accessed via
 screenreaders.

2008-03-20 Thread Cornell Ligon

F7 key toggles mute on/off, F8 is volume down and F9 is volume up. You can tab
to volume window of the player to see where the level is at: 70%, 75%, 80% etc.

Hi loren,

I've been playing with the VLC media player a little bit and from what I've
seen while the focus is in the VLC window you can hit the enter key which
will move the focus to the beginning of the movie. If this doesn't do it
you can press shift-f10 and arrow down to the chapters sub-menu and select
the particular chapter you want to play. Hope this helps.

Jeff, if there's anything I'm missing any suggestions you have would be
great since you know this thing better than both of us. I'm trying to help
one of my friends whose not on this list with the same issue. Thanks a lot
for suggesting this player I've been testing it out for the last few days
and so far it's working great for me.

Dear Listers,

I have recently subscribed to Send Space and need to know how to determine
the size of files, so that I can judge how much to include, in a file, for
upload. Cannot find anything, in their FAQ on this subtle but important
criterion!

Thanks,

While highlighting the filename either in Windows Explorer or even your
upload file selection box, hit alt+enter for properties. Among other
things, the ensuing dialog will have the file size in it.

While highlighting the filename either in Windows Explorer or even your
upload file selection box, hit alt+enter for properties. Among other
things, the ensuing dialog will have the file size in it.

Hi Listers Lauren and Nick:

I knew I saved this link for a reason.
My appologies, todays been rather busy for me.
Here's a link for a short cut key listing for VLC.
Remember Jaws and some other Screen readers may have conflicts
withsome of the keys so either use the pass through or by
pass option of your reader if you have some issue.

RE: playing a dvd using windows media 10 with jfw 7

2008-03-20 Thread Cornell Ligon

Hi Jeff,
I think I will also give it a shot as well... I stopped using WMP 11 a bit ago,
because it's such a memory hog and movies would sputter during playback. I then
began using HP DVD and the problem was gone. I only have a gig of memory and
need to eventually add another 3 GB. I still use WMP to rip and burn CD's
though.

Best Regards,
Cornell

 Hi Lauren:
Sorry my suggestion caused you some trouble.

After uninstalling VLC, if you want WMP or any other program to
 play the dvd
windows needs to "Associate a file " with the program.

In the control pannel go to folders, then file types.
Arrow down to .VOB, that is the
extension that DVD videos use, you'll probably see VLC as the
current associon. You'll also see buttons to delete, or change
 details.

That will let you reassociate to WMP when you sellect that as the
 associated program.

dvd recording for a beginner

2008-03-20 Thread Dan Thompson
Hi All,
I have a homemade recording studio at the school where I teach. I currently
use sornar4, adobe audition 1.5 and soundforge with windows-xp, jfw and
wondow-eyes.

A few of my very advanced students have started a vocational project of
publisizing services to put record collections on cd and only charging for
materials.

We would like to take it a step further and put vhs and/or other family
photos onto dvd's.

I have never been able to get any good guidence in doing this using a
screenreader and exactly what programs.

I was given dvd fab just recently and manage to copy one dvd for practice.

I didn't find it real accessable.

The process of recording dvd's seems a bit difficult. However, I hear of
others doing it and genuinely want to learn how my self.

I have heard that the Premier Technology cd recording software will do dvd's
but haven't tried it yet.

We hope to make a little extra money to buy new equippment for the studio
while at the same time having the students learn through a realistic
vocational activity.

So my questions are after all this long explanation:

1. What programs are best for this project.

2. Are there any detailed instructions for a totally blind computer to use
and successfully complete recording a dvd.
