Intermittent Live Stream?

2008-01-12 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, list.
I don't know how to phrase this problem of mine, Well, let me say that I am
unable to receive a continuous live stream either from a radio station or from
a television feed. The stream starts and plays for a few seconds and then
stops for several seconds or even for a minute or 2. Then it resumes for a few
seconds and then disappears again, thus it is intermittent rather than
continuous.
I am not sure whether it is a problem with my internet connection, or it has
anything to do with my turning off the pop-up-blocker, or because I disabled
Spybot - Search & Destroy in Manage Add-ons, or may be because I installed and
then uninstalled Windows Defender or something else! I am not having this
problem as much in a recorded stream.
Your help is much appreciated and my humble apology if I sound to be hazy and
unclear.
Thanks much!
Regards,
Fazil.

My main objection to any kind of this type of radio is not knowing what's
being played. I would like to know how to find out who the artists are and
what the song titles.
Drives me nuts.

hi Fazil

i'm experiencing the same thing with audio stream on my winamp and screamer
radio. i too am not sure what's causing all this. but my friends are telling
me that this buffering thing could be due to my poor connection.
this could be true as i'm noticing that the connection keeps fluctuating all
day especially during peak hours in the daytime.

Have you tried increasing the buffering time? this will cause the player to
hold more data in memory so streams will run more smoothly.

you could be having problems because you are using a dialup connection, what
ever
player you are using may have a buffering problem. that is my guess.

Re: HD radio

2008-01-12 Thread Tim Grady
It's just regular commercial radio with a few more stations thrown
in. Eventually it will be there in some form but it won't be this
form. If you are disappointed in regular broadcast radio then just
think of this as what there is now with better sound oh yea, and for
sighted people more on the display.

Gary,
There is nothing wrong with internet radio, as long as the stream is, for
the most part free from break-up. Lots of choice out there, as most major
broadcasters have an internet stream, as an alternative way to promote their
station around the globe. . . .

you can get a ton of HD radio info at www.hdradio.com with local
 listings
 in a given area.

from what I understand from one of my local audio dealers, audiocraft
 in
greater cleveland, most aren't very good for am broadcasts. I'm
 probably
going to get an Internet WI-FI portable and merely paste my icons into
 it
taking it around wherever I go and pluggin into either my comp, home
stereo or a pair of portable speakers that I have planted throughout my
 house, garage and patio...

for the cost of an HD, I'd probably go satellite as well. Probably will
get sirius online this weekend and listen to at home or work comp
 without
purchasing any hardware, because not necessary to listen to on bus and
 can
access via wife's phone pda in the car via fm transmitter.

RE: HD radio

2008-01-12 Thread Cornell Ligon

I think so. I created a folder in favorites titled "Net Radio" and merely paste
icons of my favorite stations right into it. I paste the icon directly from
whichever page actually plays the content, so I don't have to click on the link
each time I visit the site, such as ESPN live streams, WTAM live streams,
windows Media stand up comedy and etc.
I chose stations that have a good bit rate, so quality of sound is excellent.

If by boat anchors you mean your analog televisions, you don't have to put them
out to pastor. There will be digital to analog convertors available for roughly
$50 per and the government will offer vouchers available soon valued at $40.
so, consumers who want to use analog televisions can do so. In addition, if you
already have cable or satellite, you're already set, because their server will
convert from analog to digital for you.

RE: HD radio

2008-01-12 Thread Cornell Ligon

If I understand correctly, you don't necessarily have to purchase the hardware.
Especially if your job allows workers to visit any site, you can listen to
sirius online via their player. I'm almost certain it's accessible, because a
blind person on one of these lists utilizes the Sirius player online. with that
said, there are a few stations you cannot listen to online, but I cant remember
which ones. sirius.com will give more information.

Easy CD-DA Extractor

2008-01-12 Thread Vicki Wherry
I was using Easy CD-DA Extractor 9 for quite awhile, and just installed
version 11. I'm using Windows XP with JAWS 9, and accessibility for me to
Easy CD-DA Extractor version 11 is awful. Which version would work best
with my setup, and are there scripts that will help with JAWS 9?

Thanks.

RE: Recording TV shows

2008-01-12 Thread Cornell Ligon

I also have dish HD DVR. We received a message across the screen a few weeks
ago when my wife booted it up stating newer features now available and advised
we connect via network port on the back. I don't have a router as of yet, but
once I get one, I will experiment more to see if we blind folk could then
access other features via our comps and the set top box...
Maybe I should contact tech support to inquire of the features via the ethernet
port on the back of the box...

 Hi there,

Here's my situation. I am a Dish network subscriber and currently have
 a
VCR; however, I tape several shows for watching later and need a more
efficient way of keeping up with the shows and being able to tape them
without worrying about video tapes and such.
People talk avout DVR's or TVos or things like that.
I am totally blind, and don't really know my options as to what I can
 use
and what would be the most accessible.
 What are your suggestions?
 Jim

To my knowledge The rebate program is only available in the United Snakes at
this time, and for those boat anchors they are old TV's that are not worth
repairing if they break down, and for the repair shop they will charge at
least a hundred bucks just to check it out. For the price of a check over
you can buy a brand new set at Wall-Mart. .

I wouldn't waist my money on HD radio at this time, as HD radio is still
in
the experimental stages of its development. There are still a number of
technical issues that have to be ironed out. In Canada, for an example
 HD
licences for broadcasters are issued conditionally on an experimental
 basis
only. If I had my druthers I would purchase a satellite radio before
 going
HD. When was the last time that you heard an ad on television saying
 that
the latest model of a given car comes complete with an HD radio? We all
 know
what happened to am stereo,it appeared to be a good idea at the time,
however the manufacturers of radio receivers failed to come through
 with
 the
goods, and the system failed. Another example was the Sony beta system,
 as
the public showed favour towards the VHS cassette. Now we are faced
 with
another dilemma, blue ray up against yet another competitive format. I
 have
had a satelite radio for almost two years now, and frankly would not
 switch
back. Some times it is best to sit on the sidelines for awhile until
 such
 time that
all of the technical bugs of a given system are ironed out.

 High Bob,
I happen to agree with you.
A little more then 22 years ago, I bought a portable stereo that was AM
 stereo able.
Down here in Lake City Florida, none of the stations were transmitting
 AM
 stereo signals.
But when I left Florida and went to Georgia, this is when I was able to
 pick
up AM stereo stations on that unit.
That thing cost me a little more then $450.
After going through that, I said to myself, "never again will I do
 that."
I've got nothing against HD radio, I just don't thank it's ready for
 prime
 time.
If I end up with an HD radio, it would be because someone gave it to me.
But in the mean while, I will stick with what I have.
Serious here at the house, XM at the office.
 John.

Sirius Online

2008-01-12 Thread Cornell Ligon
Hi,
I just went to sirius.com and utilized the 3 day free trial using their media
player. The site is fully accessible as well as the player. You have to hit a
link that announces a code you must submit to get the free trial.
Before doing so, click on free trial and fill out form fields. they will then
send you a password via email. then go back to player page and enter user name,
which is your email address, followed by the given password, followed by the
announced code, which is a five digit number. Listen carefully, because voice
spoken is soft.

I'm not sure about the sound quality, but I am a talk radio junky, so it will
suffice. I had my dishnetwork on the same Sirius channel and it sounds better
via dish than online.
I didn't read pricing information as of yet.

hope this info is useful for some...

Cornell,

I see the point of this suggestion, saving you an extra step when clicking
on a station's feed, but I'm not clear how you locate an icon in order to
copy it into that favorites folder. Would you clarify?

Thanks.

I think so. I created a folder in favorites titled "Net Radio" and merely
paste icons of my favorite stations right into it. I paste the icon directly
from whichever page actually plays the content, so I don't have to click on
the link each time I visit the site, such as ESPN live streams, WTAM live
streams, windows Media stand up comedy and etc. I chose stations that have a
good bit rate, so quality of sound is excellent.

I wouldn't waist my money on HD radio at this time, as HD radio is still in
the experimental stages of its development. There are still a number of
technical issues that have to be ironed out. In Canada, for an example HD
licences for broadcasters are issued conditionally on an experimental basis
only. If I had my druthers I would purchase a satellite radio before going
HD. When was the last time that you heard an ad on television saying that
the latest model of a given car comes complete with an HD radio? We all know
what happened to am stereo,it appeared to be a good idea at the time,
however the manufacturers of radio receivers failed to come through with the
goods, and the system failed. Another example was the Sony beta system, as
the public showed favour towards the VHS cassette. Now we are faced with
another dilemma, blue ray up against yet another competitive format. I have
had a satelite radio for almost two years now, and frankly would not switch
back. Some times it is best to sit on the sidelines for awhile until such
time that all of the technical bugs of a given system are ironed out.

you can get a ton of HD radio info at www.hdradio.com with local listings in
a given area.

from what I understand from one of my local audio dealers, audiocraft in
greater cleveland, most aren't very good for am broadcasts. I'm probably
going to get an Internet WI-FI portable and merely paste my icons into it
taking it around wherever I go and pluggin into either my comp, home stereo
or a pair of portable speakers that I have planted throughout my house,
garage and patio...

for the cost of an HD, I'd probably go satellite as well. Probably will get
sirius online this weekend and listen to at home or work comp without
purchasing any hardware, because not necessary to listen to on bus and can
access via wife's phone pda in the car via fm transmitter.

Radio Shack wants $299.00 for the receptor radio they must have quit selling
there Accurian model. I couldn't find it.

look to see what Circuit City and Best Buy sells HD radios for. Sony sells
one much cheaper than Boston Acoustics.

I don't know how much Radio Shack is charging, but it's likely to be in the
range of $200-$250. I should be clearer about the radio's limitations, based
on the model I bought about two years ago. It's terrible on AM, so you'd buy
it only for FM. Also, there are five-second delays any time you switch to an
HD broadcaster, as I believe is standard with HD. However, I also find the
radio doesn't come up right away when I turn it on, and very occasionally
won't come up at all until I unplug the AC adaptor and reconnect it to the
outlet. I have another radio right next to it for the times I want immediate
reception, such as a news broadcast at the top of the hour. But for me, the
pure clarity of the Boston Acoustics HD's musical sound outweighs its
eccentricities.

To purchase or read reviews of HD component tuners, I would turn to C Crane,
an online and phone-order company that is responsive to queries from
visually impaired customers:

Re: HD radio

2008-01-12 Thread Larry N
We have a bunch of digital music cable channels that pose that problem for
me. Title and artist are printed on the screen, but my wife shouldn't have
to be my DJ every time I want to know what song is playing.

Most of the XM stations that I've listened to will at least back announce
after every 4 or 5 songs, and the decade channeles have jocks that talk even
more. Plus XM play lists are much much larger than those offered by
commercial stations. I thought the antenna might have a problem working
inside, but the signal strength is at its highest possible level with the
antenna sitting against our living room window.

Re: HD radio

2008-01-12 Thread Larry N
Adrian, in Internet Explorer, to add a station's direct audio link to
favorites, do the following.
1. Right click the link to the station's audio feed.
2. arrow down to the choice that says "add to favorites and press enter.
3. Follow the usual process for placing the new favorite in any folder that
you like.

What I do then is to right click the favorite, send the link to my desktop
and place it in a folder which is devoted to the stations that I like. Then
when I want to listen to one, I don't even need to open the browser.

If the station has an embedded player and won't let me add the listen link
to my favorites or to my desktop, I can at least ad a shortcut for the
listen page to my desktop folder, again, avoiding the need to open the
browser.

HTH

I am pretty sure you will need Jaws Pro in order to use Windows Media
Center Edition, as this edition is considered to be a version of
Windows XP Professional. You may need a more current version of
Jaws, too. Not sure about that. I am using Media Center 2005 with
