winamp 5.5 problem
Hi, I am using winamp 5.5 with jaws 8.0 and realtech soundcard. I have scripts written by Jim Grimsby JR. installed. But it does not spea the commands inspite of recompilling the scripts. Please help. When I press alt it does not even say menu and so on. Please help. I can tell you Richard that Rockbox is a piece of software written by VI guys I believe, to make some Ipods and other non-speaking portable players accessible via speech feedback. Seems in pretty well all instances installing this software, well, firmware modification, invalidates the warranty that comes with players. Sure if you do a search Google will come up with the places you can download it. (All this from someone who's not cool enough to own an IPod or any other MP3/AAC player, though I've got a Zenstone.) Yeh, guess that's a fair description. However, Talks is an app that runs under the Cymbian, (sorry if splling is wrong) so no waranty infringement with that. Hi, I just figure winamp figures its name is "winamp video". Long as it works, so what. Say, is there a way to stop jaws from announcing the title while something is playing? It isn't constant, but it's enough to be annoying when you don't want it. If it were really critical, I'd press insert v, end, space, enter, and shut jaws off temporarily. But I thought perhaps there's a setting somewhere I might know about. Let me clarify a few points. First, Rockbox is not developed for the blind or by the blind. It happens to have some features that allow menus and files to be spoken, and the developers are willing to incorporate suggestions made by blind users, but it was not written to make MP3 players accessible. It was written as an open source replacement to the firmware that comes on many different MP3 players. BTW, there are some blind developers working on Rockbox. Second, it is not like Talks for Cell phones or JFW for the PC. It is not a screen reader at all. It replaces the firmware that comes on your MP3 player, and it can be configured to speak the different menu options. It does not do this with a TTS but rather with recordings of the different menu options. you can also run a utility on your PC to create the same recorded files for the folders and files you have on your MP3 player, so that these will also be spoken. Otherwise, it'll call them Folder 1, Folder 2, ..., File 1, File 2, .., or you can also have the folders and files spelled to you. For more information on Rockbox, you can go to Rock box.org. I think someone else also suggested your favorite internet search engine, which is also a good idea. I use Yahoo! myself. I have an iRiver H10 20 GB MP3 player with Rockbox installed on it, and I love it! It took a little while to get it set up and running, but I find it totally accessible now. Anyone should note that installing it on your MP3 player will void your MP3's warrantee. It's also open source software that's under constant development. The documentation is good for an open source project, but you shouldn't go in expecting that it'll be as easy or go as smoothly as installing your favorite Windows application. You are replacing your MP3's firmware. This is not installing an application on a PC or a PDA/Cell phone, it's more like replacing your BIOS and OS all at once. I strongly recommend Rockbox for a blind owner of an MP3 player, but you need to go in with your eyes open. Also, one more thing I forgot to mention, MP3 players have to be out before Rockbox developers can start working on them, so your newest and latest MP3 players won't be supported by Rockbox. Furthermore, not every MP3 player is supported, and in some cases, only certain models of an MP3 are supported. If you're using JFW, use alt-v to close the video frame. Alt-v is a toggle, so if it's closed, it'll open it for you. This is probably how it started showing up in the first place. Error in Winamp
Hi, When I try to play anything in Winamp I get an error which I'll paste below. I think this is to do with the fact I've just installed software called Reply Music because as part of the instalation process it said it was installing a soundcard driver. So now I'm thinking how can I correct that. The error in Winamp says DirectSound output v2.46 (d) error Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 8878000A How do I instal proper drivers? Or is it possible/how do I select a different device? Does "different device" mean an alternate sound card? Because I've only got one; so maybe I should somehow undo what Replay Music did...any ideas? Hi, using version 207, you can cut copy paste from 1 window to the other. under the file menu, look for new program window. now you will have 2 windows open. use the ctrl+O to browse for a mp3 file to open. do this on both windows. Hi Gary. The formats CD, DVD HD and blue Ray are all different as they all use different lasers to read a disc. The wavelength of a laser beam determines how accurately it can read data. So, a blue ray laser is much more smaller a wavelength than a CD laser and so can read a lot more data in the same physical space. There are also differences in the density of data stored on the discs so a disc produced for DVD will hold more data in the same physical space than could be stored on a traditional CD. This is very much a layman's description but hope it helps explain the differences. No, it isn't. It is a firmwhere for your iPod, which basically makes your iPod or mp3 player not what its manufactured firmwhere is ment to do. Did that make sence? new skins, new menus, and the speech is just an addon. It even adds support for .AVI and .mpg movies, for people with mp3 players/iPods that don't support that feature. For iPod users, you do not even need iTunes, you use windows explorer! A Line In Question
I'm trying to record from tape on to the machine and I want to use the line in. When I used recall-pro it recorded some of the show but didn't record side 2 of the tape for some reason and it didn't record side 1 accurately either. I would prefer not to use what you hear if at all possible unless that's the only way I can do it. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. For editors I have sound forge8D and total recorder and wavepad and recall-pro. As a rockbox user, I can tell you that rockbox is excellent. Its great. It...revolutionized my music expericnce, and it'll make your life more interesting if your into audio. With an equilizer to rival that of the ipod, speech, and great sound quolity, its the alternitive to the zenstone if you want a bit more functionality. I've got a ipod video 30 gb with rockbox and have had very few problems. Keep in mind rockbox is stil in developement so changes come quickly, but if there are any bugs, there almost alwways remidied. Re: Error in Winamp
Hey Catherine This is pretty easy to fix actually. When you install replay music, it does try to install a different sound card driver and it makes that one the default one, instead of your windows default. So what you'll need to do is go into your control pannel, sounds and audio devices and go to the audio tab. Then change it back from the replay driver back to your sound card and press apply, then ok and you'll be right! Hope this helps.
