You can record on those disks just like you can on traditional compact
disks. The disks most people, like me, have access to hold around five gigs
of data. They come in writable and rewritable types. You need a different
kind of drive to read and write to them but they're not terribly expensive.
I believe the latest disks, blue ray, hold fifty gigs but I'm not sure of
this. I have a pack of the disks I first mentioned but I haven't used any
of them yet. I will be shortly, however, because I'm ripping 650 disks to
my hard drive and plan to use these as more or less permanent storage.

Hi All! We've discussed file sizes of MP3's vs. WAV. Now, what is the file
size of a DVD, especially DVD audio? You can get more on a DVD than you can
on a CD. As great as DVD's sound, is the file size smaller, or is it a more
compressed format?

In limited exploration, I didn't find that program to be terribly
accessible. What I use it for is to quickly and effortlessly split an mp3
file into smaller files of a chosen length. that is a breeze.

 Hi!
Just wondered if anyone has had a chance to look at the new Ipod
 Classic
yet. Apparently it has a 160GB drive, forget about storing your MP3
collection or whatever on your computer .
The other reason I bring this up is because in the latest version of
 Itunes
for the Mac, the synching process for the Ipod and Itunes with your
 computer
 is now fully accessible.

17 Gig not true as far as I am concerned. There either 4 or 8 gig. The 8
gig are double sided and your burner needs to support those. Also they are
quite expensive. I myself use the 4 gig ones. It works out to around 4.4
gig actually.

Subject: Macbooks, they sound very nice

Hi all!
Just got my new Macbook yesterday and I have to say that I'm
pleasantly surprised at how good they sound. I haven't determined
exactly where the speakers are in the computer itself yet .
I was actually warned against getting the new Macbook, I was told
that the speakers were incredibly quiet and lacked bass, if the first
point was true then this would have ben an issue for me as I have a
hearing impairment and I may have had to consider using external
speakers. I'm glad to say however that these things boast plenty of
volume and plenty of dynamic range so bass or the top end isn't a
problem, more than acceptable in my view for a notebook device.
Now here's the really interesting bit as far as audio goes, like my
Imac the Macbook has both analog and digital in and out for sound,
I've played a DVD on this model and connected it directly to my
surround-sound receiver which I reviewed here about 2 years ago,
results were spectacular with all the surround-sound functionality
working as it should. You can of course, connnect something like an
Imic for added audio flexability, I will be doing this so that I can
have one device dedicated to record/playback and the other completely
devoted to speekc, system sounds, playing audio "on-the-fly" and so
forth, the excellent recording software Audio Hijack Pro and the
excellent audio editing software Sound Studio will of course be an
absolute must for this notebook too.
FInally, I'm using Fusion to run a WIndows XP virtual machine with
Window-eyes and no problem with audio either though you have to tell
Fusion when you've plugged in the Imic if you want to use it with
Windows XP and associated software such as Winamp or Total Recorder,
this is done through a menu which pops up in fusion, these menus pop
up for all connected devices to your Macbook and give you choices on
how you want Fusion and Windows XP to connect to them, I think
there's an "auto-detect" mode somewhere in there too.
Hope this was of interest to some people, I could go further in my
discussion of the Macbook but... welll... this is an audio list

Indeed, it's great for splitting mp3 files which I do for burning onto
audio cds for use in our car.

Also, it's great for quickly commencing a quick and dirty recording of
audio coming through the sound card as it permits for command line
start-ups which I commence via a hotkey.

Hi Garry,
a one sided DVD holds 4.7 gigs.
You can also get DVDs that will record on both sides, which will bring to
9.4 gigs.

 Hi!
Just wondered if anyone has had a chance to look at the new Ipod
 Classic
yet. Apparently it has a 160GB drive, forget about storing your MP3
collection or whatever on your computer .
The other reason I bring this up is because in the latest
 version of
 Itunes
for the Mac, the synching process for the Ipod and Itunes with your
 computer
 is now fully accessible.

?Dvd question

2007-11-08 Thread David Reynolds
Hi all,
I now have a sony vaio with my dvd plus on it. I have loaded a video, but it
won't allow me to burn it to dvd. I can however make a dvd folder. Can this be
burnt to dvd, and played on a dvd player?

Thanks,

David.

 Hi!
Just wondered if anyone has had a chance to look at the new Ipod
Classic yet. Apparently it has a 160GB drive, forget about storing
your MP3 collection or whatever on your computer .
The other reason I bring this up is because in the latest version of
Itunes for the Mac, the synching process for the Ipod and Itunes
with your computer is now fully accessible.

Re: The Ipod classic

2007-11-08 Thread Tristan
I just got my new iPod classic 80 gb, and here is my quick way of navigating
the iPod...
Simpelist method:::
Sighted person not required. Lol!
When the iPod classic is turned on [any button to do so], hit play. This
will play all your songs in order.
Basic steps:::
I required some sighted assistance, but since I am telling you these
pointers, you will not.:
For shuffle;
1) Go to main menu on iPod classic. By hitting menu on the top of the
clickwheel. Hit it 2 to 3 times to mkae sure you are in the main menu.
2) You should be able to hear an audible click, as you move from option to
option on a menu. In this step it doesn't matter if the click is set to go
through the head phones, or the iPod internal speaker.

"Click" down the menu, until you hear no more audible clicks.
3) Go up one click (and/or option). And hit enter (select button). It should
shuffle the songs and start playing.

Now playing:
1) Go to the main menu.
2) Go to the very last option, and hit enter.
*note: If there hasn't been a play session started, you will shuffle the
songs!

Audio books:
note: This is my setup, if you have different folders or playlists, I am
sorry if this does something to your iPod. *smile*
1) Go to main menu, and go to the very first option [music].
2) Go all the way down until the iPod classic stops clicking, and go up one
"click".
3) Listen away.

2007-11-08 Thread Tristan
Hi,
This is just me, but I just got my iPod. And I mean *JUST*. About a week
ago.
Rockbox:
www.rockbox.org
Voids your apple iPod warranty, and I have decided to wait the 90 days.
Also, rockbox hasn't made a update for ipod classics (they are the iPod 6th
generations with a new name!) .

Re: The Ipod classic

2007-11-08 Thread Timberwolf
Kim,

I've got an ipod video 30 GB. I use rockbox. I absolutely love the thing.

It voices files, folders, and all menu items. The menu's interface is
different than the ipods, but in a good way imho. The manual is very
accessible and, if I do say so myself, helpful. The voices are clear and
have nice speed. I've been using this for a good 6 months. I'll never go
back, that's for sure, and if I ever find an iriver with voice recording
capability, I'm going to pick one up.

Re: MP3's DVD's and Bit Rates.

2007-11-08 Thread Gary Wood
I thought I heard once that the average DVD holds from between 4 and 6 GB.
Now with bluray and/or HD DVD there could be a lot more that those disks can
hold! There might be no limits to the amount, eventually! But also, I
believe that Bluray or HD DVD's could be quite costly if you buy just one!

2007-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes, the pop-up menus I described in Fusion are perfectly accessible
and VoiceOver will read them so therefore you can change the options
"on-the-fly" whilst your virtual machine is running or before you
start running the virtual machine whilst in Fusion.

I recently purchased an Iriver h320 and when I plugged it into my computer

was not a valid file structure or something similar. Do I need to format the
