itself?
If so, a little more direction help please.

Re: Accessible Sirius Receiver Suggestions Please?

2007-10-18 Thread Bob Seed
Norma is right! LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! What it really boils down to
is where you are geographically. In the far northern part of Canada the
antenna has to be facing south in order to get the best reception.
Apparently the satellite configuration for XM and Sirius are quite
different. You just have to experiment a little when it comes to antenna
placement.

Replay AV List

2007-10-18 Thread Mike Pietruk
The recent discussion concerning Replay Av 8.30 prompts me to mention that
there exists a discussion list oriented for screen reader users of this
truly fantastic and speech friendly program.
To subscribe, send a msg to

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

and in the subject line, type

subscribe

I have no vested interest in the list other than liking to see more
participants which would lead to greater sharing of information.

The program's "url finder" feature in and of itself is more than worth the
$50 or so pricetag for the program in my estimation. And even if you
never recorded a show or station, the ability to combine one's audio
streams under a single umbrella may too make it worth the price for many.
And, of course, you get the recorder to boot !!

Anyway, the subscription address, once again, is

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

with the word

subscribe

in the subject line.

Ok I am a cdex user and I love it. Here is my question. If I have a folder of
discs containing mp3s with no tags or proper filenames how can I easily get the
files labeled without renaming each one individually. The discs are named for
the most part but the tracks just have numbers. I was using windows media but I
try to avoid using that program as much as I can.

Well. When you have files you candownload the new winamp
5.5 and go into the id3-tags-editor with alt+3. then you
can find a button nmed auto-tag. sometimes it works and
sometimes not.
Then you have id3-tags.
on the web you can find i3-tag-editors which can sometimes
rename the files to the values in the id3-tags.

Bye,
Simon

Vinny:

you can download the file from my server directly at:
ftp.compuconference.com/GoldWave_Stuff/GoldWave522.exe

It's a free upgrade.

Beginning with this version, you will be able to check for updates from the
GoldWave help menu if one has a licensed copy.

Hope this helps.

about sattelite receivers. I did phone XM, and was told they had no
receivers with raised buttons. Probably not true, but I didn't
 appreciate
 the brush off.

Now then, after reading your post, I have 2 questions. First, what is
 the
name or number of the sirius model that you're using? Second, when you
 say
that I would need to purchase the boombox that this unit would clip in
 to,
are you talking about a standard stereo system or something else
 related
 to
sattelite technonogy. Please forgive these very basic questions, but my
 only
sattelite listening experience is through XM on Winamp.

 Thanks in advance.

Annoying static in recording

2007-10-18 Thread Kathy Szinnyey
Hi, gang! I recently recorded a great conversation using an R09 and
external mikes. I think the battery was low, which might be why there was
this static throuout the recording. In any case, is there any software that
can at least cut down on some of that static? It's not hiss. It's almost
as if there was that kindof static you get when a mike jack is on the fritz,
but mercifully I haven't had that problem since. Would Soundforge (the
full version which we don't have yet) or Goldwave or something like that
help?

Peace,
Kathy

Re: Accessible Sirius Receiver Suggestions Please?

2007-10-18 Thread Bob Seed
Ideally you want to try out the store demo in order to get a feel as to how
the unit will work for you. . Once you become accustomed to the button
configuration you shouldn't have any difficulty in operating the unit. As
mentioned in a previous post the buttons on most of the Sirius receivers are
raised making navigation a breeze. In doing my research on satellite
receivers a year or so ago, I found the XM receivers to have square flush
mount buttons making the unit very streamline. The buttons on the XM radio
that I saw were very much like the buttons that you find on the latest
models of cell phones. flush mount to the faceplate of the unit. The XM
units may have changed considerably since then. You will just have to check
it out for your self. When it comes to programming it is six of one and a
half dozen of another. Then there are the subscription fees that one has to
deal with. I have the two year plan with Sirius, but will probably opt out
for the lifetime membership plan. You pay once and forget about it. . . . .

 Larry,
The sirius unit that I have is called Staarmate3. It comes complete
 with
both car and home kits. The unit can be used in both the car and in the
home. It also comes with two antennas, a small car antenna with a
 magnetic
back, and a much larger antenna that can be fastened to a windowsill
 with
 a
southern exposure. The catalogue number is: 1219809813 from the Source
 in
Canada. They have two other models that are slightly newer with the
 same
features of the unit that was previously mentioned. By the looks of the
photograph it appears that these models also have raised buttons as
 well.
The model numbers ar as follows: 1219812 and 1219807. All units come
 with
 a
built-in FM transmitter so that you can transmit your favourite station
 to
an FM radio in another room. Hope this helps.

Captchas Re: Winamp Question

2007-10-18 Thread Wes Derby
I know this is a bit late, but something Chris said got me thinking...I
notice Winamp's forums are "powered by vBulletin". I've also noticed, for
about six years now, the ANYTHING powered by vbulletin has the captcha code
associated with sign-up. I've found three lists (two Opie and Anthony fan
lists and the Orbitcast forums) who are willing to assist blind/visually
impaired users in signing up. However, most of the vBulletin powered lists
don't give an email address to contact the forum owner or an audio alternate
to the captcha. So, what I'm wondering is, is this something each forum
owner can set up on his/her own, or is this something whoever is in charge
at vBulletin would have to set up for each forum?

The first time I ever ran into it was signing up for the message board at
megadeth.com back in like July of 2001. Part of me thinks the Winamp guys
would be willing to add an audio alternative, but it makes me think maybe
vBulletin's software just isn't set up to handle such things, and that they
need to be made aware of the problem and asked/nudged to fix it.
