RE: JFW & windows media center in windows xp media center 2005

2007-08-21 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Jason,

Hit "enter" on Media Center. This will bring up a program list with My
TV etc. Arrow down the list and hit on what you want to do. If you
want tv, hit the "my tv" selection. That will bring up a list of "live
tv", "recorded tv", "the guide", etc. Arrow to the selection you want.

"The Guide" is a grid stylelisting of channels and programs. When you
enter "the Guide" it remembers the last channel you were on and puts you
on the currently playing show. To change channels, arrow to the left
once and then you can arrow up and down on the various channels. Find
the channel you want and then right arrow across the grid to find a show
you might want to record. Hit "enter" on the show and you can slect,
"record" or "record series". This allows you to record a single show or
the show each day/time it's on.

Live Tv works in much the same manner. The FM tuner is accessed through
"radio". I think the first right arrow let's you enter the frequency of
the station and entering on it will bring it up. You'll need a good
antenna!

Those are some of the basics I've figured out so far.

If you go to the Microsot.com web site and type in "Media Center short
cuts, you can find a page with a good listing of keyboard short cuts.

In general, when using the various function, use the arrow keys and the
back space key to move around and out of functions. The keyboard short
cuts seem to generally follow the usual Windows structure, but may use
control+shift+ a letter instead of just control.

Good luck.

A bit of a warning about adding products to a Media Center computer.
Microsoft was very tight in integrating programs into Media Center and
changing or upgrading them can cause real problems. For example, I
wanted to add an old version of Roxio Easy CD Creater. It seems that
all versions or at least most version of Easy CD Creater and Media
Center do not mix well at all. I'm still struggling with that. I've
also seen post indicating similar problems with WMP 11 instead of WMP 10
which generally ships with Media Center.

What is Freecorder Toolbar 3 is explained here

2007-08-21 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
Thank you to Leslie B. for this one.

A user explains the FCT3 Sound Recorder below.

Review: Freecorder records any audio played on your PC for free

by JoelGeek posted on August 21, 2007 7:06 am

Applian Technologies just announced
Freecorder
, a free audio capture program for Windows Vista and XP. The
program installs as a tool bar and lets you press the record
button at any time you want to
start recording. In addition, you can stream live Internet audio
stations and record those, too.

In my tests I installed Freecorder, restarted Firefox–it works
in IE, too–and then was greeted with the new tool bar. I clicked
the play button next to
the drop down and was listening to music instantly. I then
clicked the record button and an MP3 recording of what I was
listening to was created on the
fly. It really is that easy! I then went to
Pandora.com
, allowed Pandora.com to create a channel for me, and then as
soon as it started streaming, I pressed the record button again.
Instantly, I had a recording
of my favorite artist in crisp MP3. If MP3 isn’t your thing,
then you can select WAV as the output, and if you want to record
audio from other sources,
then you can do that, too (see the Settings picture below).

freecorder3.jpg

According to Applian, before Vista you could install custom
sound card
drivers that would allow you to capture audio on your
PC
. However, with Vista it’s either difficult or impossible to
capture the audio, so the company came up with this new tool
bar. Speaking of the tool bar,
it was created in partnership with Conduit, so it has a bunch of
sharing / social networking-type functions built-in.

freecorder2.jpg
Here’s a picture of it recording in real-time

I can’t say enough good things about this program. First, it’s
free. Second, it’s insanely easy to use. I was literally
recording seconds after restarting
my browser. The only drawback I found is it does make your
browser a little more busy, since it’s a whole new tool bar.
However, there are a bunch of features
in this new tool bar, so you may find yourself enjoying the free
enhancements to your browsing experience.

freecorder1.jpg
Here’s a clip of the tool bar–I grabbed the half with the
recording pieces

Freecorder Toolbar 3 Answer for Darrell & all

2007-08-21 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
I Darrell & Listers
This is the new Freecorder Toolbar 3 Sound Recorder and NOT the
old and very different Freecorder 2 version.

The new and free Freecorder Toolbar 3 works within your browser.

The older Freecorder 2 program you run yourself. It has some
minor issues and hopefully some scripts will be written for this
older version. Can't guarantee it yet.

Do you understand me now?

I did some podcasts on this new Freecorder Toolbar 3 program and
remember its new and their could be some bugs in it. I cannot
guarantee its going to be perfect.

Yep, to further what Jeff was saying, it's just a really easy way to
access ACB Radio's streams. You just open the program, hit a simple
hotkey, and you're listening. You won't have to keep visiting the
website and updating bookmarks or other addresses if they change, the
tuner program is actually smart enough to figure that out, so you'll
always have the ability to listen no matter what happens.
It's a nice lil piece of software if you're a fan of ACB Radio.

I do. It works very well providing you have the scripts for it. However,
the scripts seem to work best with jaws version 5.51 or below. Your
milage may vary however.
If you need a copy write me off lsit as there doesn't seem to be a sight
for them anymore.

Thanks! Well, I now have an incentive to grab 5.35.
I gather that, in 5.35, wma and asf are included file types.

In my tests I installed Freecorder, restarted Firefox-it works
in IE, too-and then was greeted with the new tool bar. I clicked
  the play button next to
the drop down and was listening to music instantly. I then
clicked the record button and an MP3 recording of what I was
listening to was created on the
fly. It really is that easy! I then went to
  Pandora.com
, allowed Pandora.com to create a channel for me, and then as
soon as it started streaming, I pressed the record button again.
  Instantly, I had a recording
of my favorite artist in crisp MP3. If MP3 isn't your thing,
then you can select WAV as the output, and if you want to record
  audio from other sources,
then you can do that, too (see the Settings picture below).

  freecorder3.jpg

According to Applian, before Vista you could install custom
  sound card
drivers that would allow you to capture audio on your
  PC
. However, with Vista it's either difficult or impossible to
capture the audio, so the company came up with this new tool
bar. Speaking of the tool bar,
it was created in partnership with Conduit, so it has a bunch of
  sharing / social networking-type functions built-in.

  freecorder2.jpg
Here's a picture of it recording in real-time

I can't say enough good things about this program. First, it's
free. Second, it's insanely easy to use. I was literally
  recording seconds after restarting
my browser. The only drawback I found is it does make your
browser a little more busy, since it's a whole new tool bar.
However, there are a bunch of features
in this new tool bar, so you may find yourself enjoying the free
  enhancements to your browsing experience.

  freecorder1.jpg
Here's a clip of the tool bar-I grabbed the half with the
  recording pieces

Re[2]: What is Freecorder Toolbar 3 is explained here

2007-08-21 Thread djc
Ok I've now taken a look at this here Freecorder. I'm using window-eyes and
here are my impressions. First I tried using it with IE6 and I could locate
the record, stop and pause buttons but could not locate the play and
settings buttons. Using firefox I was able to locate all the buttons. Yes
you do need to use your mouse pointer to locate the buttons and you do need
to left click on them. When you do this a freecorder window pops up and
that window is just a graph but it does need to be on the screen during
record. When I told it to play it first went to c:documents and settings
and as you probably can guess it went deeply in that folder. I changed that
under settings. I was interested to see how this toolbar handled echo123
from Skype so I hit record and called echo123 on skype. When I finished I
stopped the recording on the toolbar and hit play. It opens the folder
where the recordings are stored and i was surprised to note more than 1 mp3
file. The first mp3 file was skype's output from echo123 but it did not
record my voice after the tone. The second recording was my microphone with
echo123 faintly in the backround. Now I was using headphones with my
speakers turned all the way down. Under the settings you can use the driver
that they provide or you can use your sound card drivers. I tested both
methods and the result seemed to be the same. If it installed any kind of
player I can't get to it. It does install to both IE and firefox or you can
tell it which browser you'd like it to install in to. When I played the
recordings back it called winamp. Will I keep it installed probably because
you never know when you want to just grab a quick snippit of something. Now
when you install it it will offer to install lots of other things for you
but I just left it at the defaults.

The Windows Vista Anti-Recording Conspiracy Thwarted

2007-08-21 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
August 21, 2007
The Windows Vista Anti-Recording Conspiracy Thwarted

For several years now, the ability to record audio on new
Windows PC's has slowly eroded, until it's become virtually
impossible to record anything but
your Microphone on new Windows Vista machines. Recording
streaming audio, or sounds from any application, simply couldn't
be done. But today, that has
changed.

Today is the official release day for
Freecorder Toolbar Sound Recorder
, our new free audio recording application that makes audio
recording in Vista (and XP for that matter) better and more
accessible for everyone. To understand
why this is a big deal, it's helpful to know a little about the
technology behind sound recording. But if you've recently bought
a new Windows PC and tried
to record audio, you've learned what I'm about to tell you the
hard way.

Recording audio is traditionally done two ways: either by using
a "loopback" line exposed by the sound card in your PC, or by
using a third party program
that creates its own Sound Card Driver. The loopback method has
been slowly phased out, even with XP machines. There used to
always be a "What U Hear",
"Stereo Mix", "Wave Out Mix" or similar recording line on every
sound card installed in every new PC, which hundreds of
applications could use to record
sounds. Then all of the sudden, many PC's shipped without
loopback lines, especially with the popular RealTek cards, and
millions of customers were out
of luck- unless you had a recording application like Replay A/V
with the Enhanced Sound Card Driver, Total Recorder or Soundtap.
These specialized applications
used custom written Sound Card Drivers to record, and didn't
require a loopback line. However with Windows Vista, Microsoft
has required that all drivers
be certified and signed by Microsoft, which effectively kills
this method of recording. If you own a new Vista PC with no
loopback line, you are unable
to record audio - until now.

Our new
Freecorder Toolbar Sound Recorder
uses a brand new audio recording method invented by us. It
works great with Vista, XP and even Windows 2000, and doesn't
require any special recording
line or driver - it just works. Plus, an added benefit is
Freecorder Toolbar's Sound Separation technology, which isolates
sounds from the application
it was generated in. This means that the beep from your Instant
Messenger program won't wind up in the recording from your
favorite internet radio station.

Our other products are getting this new technology shortly, but
Freecorder Toolbar
has it now, and it's totally free. Give it a try and enjoy!

New PC Software Restores Audio recordings...

New PC Software Restores Audio Recording Capabilities to Windows
Vista for Free

Applian Technolgoies has just released a free, audio recorder
that works incredibly well with Windows Vista and XP. This
recorder uses revolutionary new
recording technology which is sound card independent. It can
capture audio as MP3 files from virtually any application or
internet stream.

San Anselmo, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2007 -- Applian Technologies
has just released the
Freecorder Toolbar Sound Recorder
, a free audio capture program for Windows Vista which restores
the audio recording functionality previously available in prior
versions of Windows. Using
a new driverless recording process developed by Applian, the
software allows customers to capture audio as MP3 files from
virtually any application or
internet stream. Freecorder Toolbar is free, and available today
from
www.freecorder.com.

H

istorically, all PC's had sound card drivers with an easily
accessible recording line, and also allowed recording
applications to install custom sound card
drivers. Today, the sound card drivers that ship with Windows
Vista rarely make a recording line available, or if a sound card
does have a recording line,
that capability is buried. And the new driver signing
requirement of Windows Vista has permanently disabled sound
capture technologies that relied on custom
drivers. Before Freecorder Toolbar, it has been difficult or
impossible to capture audio in Windows Vista.

Internet audio or application-generated sound can now be saved
by everyone. And our convenient browser-based interface offers
enhanced search capabilities
and other cool tools, all for free. Everyone should have this
great little recorder on their browser.
Freecorder Toolbar works inside both Internet Explorer and
Firefox, and offers simple one-button recording that saves
everything you hear from your PC speakers
as either an MP3 or WAV file. It will also record from the
microphone or line-in inputs on your PC. Additionally,
Freecorder Toolbar includes a powerful
Google-based search, and optional browser enhancements like a
radio tuner, weather bug, pop-up blocker, search highlighter and
more.

"We are thrilled to be able to give consumers an easy-to-use
universal audio recorder that works great with Windows Vista and
XP" said Applian CEO Bill
Dettering, "Internet audio or application-generated sound can
now be saved by everyone. And our convenient browser-based
interface offers enhanced search
capabilities and other cool tools, all for free. Everyone should
have this great little recorder on their browser."

Freecorder Toolbar was developed in partnership with Conduit,
the leading platform for building online communities via
community toolbars. "Our vision at
Conduit is to provide website publishers with the most powerful
components and content for their community toolbar, and
ultimately to deliver a superior
end-user experience," said Ronen Shilo, CEO of Conduit. "Applian
is a clear leader managing streaming media and we are delighted
to provide their highly
useful tools via our platform." Freecorder Toolbar contains no
advertising, and is available for free from Freecorder.com. It
requires a PC running Windows
2000 or later.

I'll have to try TRY on my Vista Laptop.

I've never heard about MS doing anything to restrict third party software on

Do you know definitely that total recorder does not work under Vista
-- just because a driver is not signed, does not mean it does not
work.

Re: New PC Software Restores Audio recordings...

2007-08-21 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
That is to much trouble.
I think the letters PC are suppose to mean personal computer.
If I can't do what I want to do on a Vista system right out of the box, then
who needs it.
My job requires me to do a lot of things with digital audio technology.
If Vista is going to hinder me from doing this, then I will spend my money
on a Mack O-X-X system.
Coming from a blind person's prospective, Macks are a hole lot user
friendlier then PCs any way.
So I will go that rout if I have to.

Replay a/v should work under Vista. total Recorder, unless they've
changed their message on their web site, can record some formats and
not others.

Re: New PC Software Restores Audio recordings...

2007-08-21 Thread Dean Martineau
Here is the paragraph from

http://www.totalrecorder.com/TR_and_Vista.htm

• Windows Vista does not allow to set Total Recorder driver as a
system default playback and recording device, therefore under Windows
Vista the Total Recorder
driver can record output only of those programs that do not use (or
can work without using) Direct Sound and allow to select an audio
device independently
of the system settings. This issue is related to the significant
changes in functioning of the sound subsystem in the Windows Vista.
Regretfully, most
audio playback programs do not satisfy these criteria and cannot be
recorded in Software mode. You can only record output of these
programs in Soundboard
mode if your sound card has an appropriate line (see below).

Does Windows Media Player, or Winamp have this ability -- I know you
can select the output device in those -- can't you just select total
recorder?

The only problem I had was during recording. they began battling for memory
usage so I would have to turn jaws off while recording. it was fine for

Re: creative zenstone

2007-08-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. If you have a little bit of usable vision, as I do, the scripts
aren't even necessary, because an orange light flashes while the zen
stone is charging, and a green light stays on after it's charged. I
fully realize that a good portion of the people out there who are on
this list probably have no usable vision at all, but for those who
do, that's another way of figuring it out.

Walmart Music Downloads

2007-08-21 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi to the list.
Now that Walmart offers some unrestricted MP3 music files for purchase, I
wanted to check it out, but have had not much luck.
I have logged in, selected Music, and then selected Downloads, and then even
found an album with all of the track listings. You can listen to any of the
tracks, each track is listed at 94 cents, and the album is listed at $18.44.
I can find no where to activate a buy button, be it a link, a button, or
some other kind of control.
I have plenty of experience on Amazon.com, but this one has me stumped and
its driving me nuts.
Any hints on buying MP3 music from this site?
  Thanks.

Re: Walmart Music Downloads

2007-08-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
man, for 94 cents a track, and a whole album at almost 20 bucks, why
bother when a site like Mp3 sparks or other sites give you an even
wider selection for much less money? I give Wal-mart credit for
finally getting their act together and offering downloadable mp3
songs and albums, but at $20 an album, that is just too damn much
money. If they're going to do that, sell the albums at half that
price and I bet people would be even more willing to buy them.

RE: Window eyes and cool edit pro.

2007-08-21 Thread Shaun Oliver
Yes I do. I shall find them and send them along. Add brailledude to your
skype or [EMAIL PROTECTED] to your msn messenger or
blindman01_2000 to your yahoo messenger. I'll send them along that way
as they're an executable file and windows complains when you send stuff
like that through email.
