Re: MP3 Directcut
Kelley While the volume levels were correct all along, what caused the problem was that the appropriate setting required for recording wasn't checked. For the benefit of readers, here is how I stumbled upon the solution. Knowing that apparently nothing would record, I decided to attempt to have my RedButton software attempt to record WGN, Chicago. Not surprisingly, the recording wouldn't commence. I went into the pc's sound manager and looked for various recording property check boxes for line in, mike, cd, etc. Having no idea which might impact the recording of internet streams, I one by one attempted to check the boxes (as you guessed, Kelley, all were unchecked). RedButton allows one to monitor what is being recorded, assuming something is recording, of course. Suddenly, out of the blue, I heard the dignified voice of Milt Rosenberg interviewing someone on "Extension 720" as a highlight which WGN streams when it cannot stream regular programming due to Cubs baseball. I checked, to make certain, and indeed iI had a recording on the hd. I can tell everyone that I have never, in the 35 or so years that Milt has hosted "Extension 720" been so elated to hear the U of Chicago psychology prof interview anyone !! And, oh yes, I saved the settings into the Quickmix default file default.qmx which now, thanks to a msg posted by Sarah Alawami last week, starts as the notebook starts up and now is also available via the desktop. And, I'll be doing an image of that hd later today in the event we ever have to do a total system restore. So, once again, Kelley, thanks for asking the right questions which changed my focus from tweeking MP3 Directcut to what was required, enabling the pc itself to record. mike On Mon, 13 Aug 2007, Kelly Pierce wrote: > Mike, > > don't give up just yet. Soundforge7: MP3 codec problem
Hi. My First post to this list. As subject says, I'm using Sony Sound Forge 7. Little did I realise the MP3 codec or whatever it is must be registered after so many uses. The problem? The computer SF7's is on is not connected to the internet at present. So, my question is: can anyone think of an interim solution to doing conversions of MP3 to wave files, and vice versa? Might it be possible to (temporarily) use a free MP3 codec, or will Sound Forge not like that! (I've no objection in principle to registering, just cannot do this at the moment as just explained. Obviously, I do have an internet connected PC on which I'm sending this message, so downloading to this machine is of course possible. Little bit about myself. Living in the UK, my audio work is with local talking newspaper, some aural history work, a little live music recording, plus some transcription work. So far used Sound Forge 7 but I'm considering buying Studio Recorder. Intend upgrading to SF9 as soon as money permits, as I'd find the multi-track-multi-channel facility useful. Look forward to replies. >From Ray I can be contacted off-list at: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RedButton is a program, sold through www.radiotime.com designed to record radio stations that stream via the net. There is a fully functioning 14-day trial version which can be converted into a permanent version for just under $30. While recordings are made on your pc, the scheduling of recordings is done via the RadioTime website. Radiotime.com has one of the largest databases of on-the-air streams around along with the ability to search by program titles and hosts. Speaking from personal experience, the service is very responsive in making corrections and additions when one reports them. These are often made to the database the same day when one submits them. Even if one doesn't want to record radio, radiotime.com is a great resource for info on internet radio. The listening side of the service is free. Re: zen stone
Hi Lesley. A common problem that people have found with the zen stone is not waiting long enough for it to start playing. Hold the centre play button in for 3 seconds and then wait for 15 to 20 seconds for it to start playing. Make sure the volume isn't turned right down and make sure your ear buds have a firm connection, they should click into place when properly connected. Try and paste an mp3 track in there so that you can eliminate whether it's the format of your book or the player. Regards. Making Simple Programmes for Podcasts
Hi Apologies if it seems that I've asked something like this before. I have for a grander scale project for streaming radio on the net. Now however I'm looking for something simpler. I wish to make simple DJ'd music programmes with a bit of chat. I need to be able to cue up the music and be able to speak over it, but without Jaws being recorded too. I would prefer not to mix outwith the computer then record the result. I wish to be able to record the result for podcast or just MP3 streaming. I think I'm looking for some kind of mixer within the computer which allows music and mike, but everything being controlled by jaws without the hearers hearing Jaws. Regards. Part of the solution, how I avoid having others hear JAWS unless I want them to, is to use earphones on my end. i have the zen stone one GB , but there is a 2 GB version, and i am wondering apart from the obvious difference in disk space, has the 2 GB model any other additions, i am really pleased with the xen stone, which i use specifically for books, i have an i audio also, with voiceboxthat i use just for music, always remember that it takes about 20 seconds for the zen stone to come on, i would welcome any information about the two gb version, travel safely, joe. Re: zen stone
you don't need the creative lite program. you can use windows explorer to place MP3 or WMA files on the player. to my knowledge the library files won't play on the Zen stone. if you download an overdrive book and transfer the book to the Zen stone, that will work. they are DRM protected WMA files but will play on the player as needed until you finish reading the book. - Original Message - From: "leslie ferrell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2007 2:52 PM Subject: Re: zen stone >I checked my book was an egg file I've converted it to MP3. Hi Dean It's more the fact that when you are recording on the computer it can also record the Jaws, although I take the point about using headphones.
