Re: Podcast Receivers
Brandon I wouldn't attempt downloading podcasts via a dial-up. And partially downloaded podcasts or failed downloads are worthless and more often than not an indication of a problem not of Juice but the sender itself. For instance, Juice has been unable to successfully download podcasts of 2 shows I routinely capture --- Bruce Williams of the LifeStyle Radio Network and Investors Edge of the Business Talk Radio Network. Out of curiosity last night, I checked the sites manually and noted that both podcasts, for whatever reasons, had faulty archives. So, in a situation such as this, Juice, which is a robot of sorts, just keeps trying and trying (like a dutiful agent should) to get something which is impossible for it to grab as what it's after simply fails to exist. Perhaps the error msgs might be better, but the positive point is knowing that you have a podcatcher which doesn't give up until it gets what's it is after. This is preferable to something that tries once and then simply doesn't try again. What I'm going to do is this: (1) copy the subscription file for future use. (2) Remove the subscriptions which aren't currently working so the failed downloads don't dominate the downloads list. (3) In a couple of days, add in the failed subscriptions to see if things have changed. Re: Itunes for Windows accessability issues
Dane This is basically good news. Now for the question that someone can address: I have iTunes 7.1 and WE6.0 on my xp system. So how do I manually force iTunes to search for latest shows it is subscribed to. Right now, this seems hit or miss. I should point out that I only use iTunes for podcast subscriptions that require it and otherwise use Juice for automated downloads. I agree. Trees stand because when a strong wind blows, their branches have the ability to bend a little. Tate, The FTP discussion was straying into how to use various FTP programs and not discussing uploading and downloading audio. Otherwise I wouldn't have said it was off topic. The way to use a particular program would be more appropriate to discuss on a general Windows list. Tom ** Message Separator ** >Tom, > >What if you are using it to up loed audio? Ok, well I cannot answer your question as I've played with Itunes for the PC all be it too briefly but I will have a look in a few minutes just to satisfy my curiosity. If you want to attempt to get an answer quicker than I can provide than may I suggest that you try the Gw- Info mailing list? Last time I was subscribed, it seemed that several list members were using Itunes so they may be able to help you. Of course, someone on this list may know in the meanwhile. Hi Darrell, I'm not sure about digital cable, I just have basic hooked directly into the card which is 125 channel. Ipods, what's being used these days.
Hi@ The subject of Ipods seems to have been discussed allot here lately and silly me, I've ignore the topic but now that Itunes is more accessible than it was I'm seriously looking at getting one and I know that a whole heap of you out there are happily riding your trusty steeds through your music collection. So I'm specifically thinking of something like the Ipod video with the 80 gig drive, has anyone used this at all? Rockbox doesn't particularly worry me at this stage as I know that a version is being developped for the new Ipod video anyway. RE: Ipods, what's being used these days.
I don't think you need to worry too much about accessibility at the computer end, since mosrt players such as winamp and windows media player now seem to cater for ipods and other players. It is more to do with the accessibility of the player itself. I have a creative zen, and it has a 30gb drive. Wow! The only problem is I don't remember what I've got on it. It looks unlikely that rockbox will be adapted for this player. Having said all that, I'm quite happy with it, and whenever I forget what's on there, I can just link it up to the pc and get the computer to tell me. Ipods are a bit of a problem, since most use touch sensative controls, no buttons, just a smooth surface. My wife has one, and I find it impossible to use. Re: Ipods, what's being used these days.
Thanks for this and as you say, its just a matter of remembering what's on the player and you can hook the player up to your PC or Mac to find out, now I'm sure I read somewhere that Ipods could immit a click when a menu option was changed or when you ran your finger round the wheel, anyone know about this? If this is the case then this would also be helpful. This is true. They do emit a small click, but you'd probably have to take your earphones out to hear it. Re: FTP Programs Off Topic
Tom, since I was the one who posed the question, I have to tell you that you apparently did not read my question very carefully. I was NOT asking about how to use an FTP client. I simply wanted info on FTP clients that were accessible. I've been on many e-mail lists, and I've never seen a moderator make such a huge deal over a question that wasn't even completely off-topic! Now, maybe someone else asked about how to use an FTP client once upon a time, but since mine seems to have caused the problem, I encourage you to take another look at the original post.
