I'm using Nero version 7.2.3.2 with Window-Eyes 5.5. If you can't
get JAWS to speak the menus correctly in Nero you could possibly use
a demonstration copy of Window-Eyes to do this task.

hi howard,
The access of the info for winamp is pretty quick. You can just go alt+3
then shift-tab once to get the info. I don't know of any that display it in
the main window at all, Windows Media player 10 does I think, or 9 did and
you can probably enable it in 10, but I never use it so I wouldn't know.

Hi Howard,

Though the UMS firmware does give you the ability to directly mount the
iRiver as a drive, it does have the drawback of limiting the MP3 bit rate to
96 Kbps. I'm running the UMS firmware and do not see this as a major
limitation, but it is something about which one should be aware.

Re: razing volume in winamp?

2006-07-08 Thread Dean Martineau
Raising the volume in Winamp has nothing to do with JAWS scripts, so
it does not matter which screen reader you use. Up arrow does
it. Also, in order to set the volume independent of the screen
reader volume using software speech, use the wave out plug-in and on
some systems you have to use the alt method for the volume which is a
setting you find when you configure the plug-in.

hello howard,
I installed it on the IFP 180, so it's probably the same thing. It's a
fairly straightforward process, or was a few years ago. It definately makes
it easier to transfer files. I think there's a loss of responsiveness, or
something else that's changed, but I don't exactly remember what. You will
have to redo your settings, like the EQ and all that if you changed them.

FLAC Questions

2006-07-08 Thread Dana S. Leslie
I've started experimenting with FLAC, again. I'm getting much better sound
quality than I did the last time I tried using FLAC, several months ago.
Could this be because FLAC support is now integrated into Winamp; could the
fact that, previously, I had to install a separate FLAC plug-in in Winamp
explain the poor sound quality I got when I played .FLAC files, previously?

When I rip my CDs to .FLAC, using Easy CD-DA Extractor, I get to choose a
compression level, but not a sample rate or bit rate. I've noticed, though,
that all the files come out as 44khz (not surprising, but the bit rates vary
widely, between slightly over 400kbps and slightly over 900kbps. Can someone
explain this, please?

Thanks.

Dana

Oh, yeah, right. Apologies if I caused confusion. The limitation is on

Re: Copying CD's

2006-07-08 Thread Gary Wood
I've heard that the best way, if you want everything to be in order, the way
it was originally, you should start your first selection with 001, and so un
until you get to 010, then keep going to 100. I made the mistake of just
starting with 01, but that didn't work when I got to 100. At first, I
didn't number the tracks, so then, they turned out in alphabetical order;
but generally, the ones that I did worked out fine. I have Nero 5.5!
