Re: Disapointed about H340

2006-01-27 Thread PETE gurney
hello gary,

i can't say for sure, but at todays exchange rate and taking into account
that they wont charge you UK vat so the price will drop by 17.5 percent i
would estimate the iriver h340 will be roughly 409 US dollars plus
shipping.

pete.

Pete,
I wonder what the price for the H340 would be in US dollars, especially
when
overseas shipping is included. Probably a big ouch!

Thanks Tim for the information. Now my next question is, do I need
sighted assistance to enable my on-board sound card? Also, will this
formula you outlined work in Win-98SE?

Yes, you'll need assistance to enable your
onboard sound card because you do that from the
BIOS, and yes the steps will work on whichever platform window-eyes is running.

Re: cool edit

2006-01-27 Thread lui chee chau
i think, if you compare with sound forge, sound forge
is better. how ever, i just love the stabelity, and
the multi track fungtion. also, the fx to me is really
cool. all i said, is just my personal view.
also, most of the fungtion, you can access from the
menu, and most if not all of them, you can define the
hotkey for it.

looking for a program

2006-01-27 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

I like to record nls books. I usually use Goldwave for recording these
books at 3 and 3/4 IPS, quadruple play speed. I then change the
playback rate and save them as mp3 files. I would prefer to use either
Recall pro or Total Recorder because those programs can record directly
to mp3 rather than recording to a temporary file and then converting to
mp3; unfortunately, Total Recorder and Recall pro lack the ability to
change the playback rate. which is essential to this process.

I am therefore wondering if a program exists which will play mp3 files
using a sampling rate other than the one used to record the file.
Specifically, I want to play an mp3 file at one fourth the sampling rate
used to record it.

I know someone will tell me to open the file in Goldwave or Sound Forge;
however, it takes almost a minute and a half to open large files in this
way. So I want a program which can do this without uncompressing the
file. Such a program probably doesn't exist, but it certainly doesn't
hurt to inquire.

Thanks in advance for ideas.

Don Roberts

Goldwave 5.12 question

2006-01-27 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

Although I really like using Goldwave or Total Recorder, contingent on
what I am recording, I really like the fact that I can read the V U
meter in Total Recorder. I use Window Eyes 5.5 but assume it can be
read equally well using JFW.

So I am writing to inquire as to whether anyone on this list has found a
way to get an accurate V U meter reading with Gold Wave. Whenever I
check it, it is always at 0 percent regardless of how much actual volume
is being recorded.

Thanks for ideas.

Don Roberts

Re: Reading V U Meters In Total Recorder

2006-01-27 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Tom, In Window Eyes, after you have begun recording, hit the numpad 7
key, which takes you to the top left corner of the screen. Then hit the
numpad 2 key to read each successive line. At some point, Window Eyes
will say "l" without the quot marks. Hitting the numpad 2 one more time
will then read a one or two-digit number followed by percent, depending
on how punctuation is set. This is the V U reading which I usually
adjust to about 60 percent when recording.

I am certain this can also be done in JFW, but I don't know just how.

Re[2]: Reading V U Meters In Total Recorder

2006-01-27 Thread Patrick Perdue
Hello Donald,

On Friday, January 27, 2006, 7:10:07 PM, you bellowed the following:
> This is the V U reading which I usually
> adjust to about 60 percent when recording.

Is there a way to get the meter to read in DB rather than percentages?
I don't use total recorder much, but this would be of interest.

MP3s On Commercial CD Players

2006-01-27 Thread Kat
I am trying to make a CD of MP3 files that can be played on a commercial CD
player. Can you help? I have iTunes, but haven't figured out how to use it
to accomplish this goal. Do you know if iTunes is capable of doing this?
If not, what do you recommend?I'm thinking that the files need to be
converted from MP3 to WAV, so have been trying to accomplish that.
Everything I've tried to do toward that goal has not been successful though.
Oh and I should mention that I have Winamp and tried to do it with that
program as well. Maybe it is possible to do with these programs, but if so
I need help figuring out specifically how. Or, I would appreciate
recommendations as to what other programs I should acquire.

Thanks,
Katrina

Re: looking for a program

2006-01-27 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Thanks for the suggestion. I have played with batch conversion only
minimally, but this might be a viable alternative. Thanks again.

Hello Donald. I know you said you have used GoldWave before. What I'm
wondering is if you have used the batch feature of GoldWave. That way
you record the files first and then run a batch conversion to compress
them all at once.

Sound Blaster sound changing

2006-01-27 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
After playing a CD on my computer, The sound levels change drastically.
After playing the CD, and I want to "talk" with someone on FTP, my
microphone volume is very low and I cannot adjust it, by using the speaker
or the computer volume.
I can go into the properties of Sound Blaster and reset everything to
default and all comes back well.
Any ideas on why the changes?
Thanks,
Morey
