Re: winamp problem

2005-10-12 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Dana,
Thanks for letting me know the short URL works, smile, maybe i'll play with
that. i'm still running Winamp 5.09 so maybe the references to XM and AOL
content are new to the latest version, nothing like taking three days to
figure that out. If I do find these stations in the library and get them to
work it'll be great, but otherwise i'm not sure it is worth the upgrade.
other than the focus issues in the library window that you mentioned, have
you seen any other problems with the latest version? Seems to me I'd heard
of some but maybe wasn't paying close enough attention. As with anything
Winamp or even audio, mileage seems to vary. i may upgrade eventually but
not today--definitely too much else to do and low frustration tolerance.

There is a www.wqxr.com
But, when you try to get to their stream from there, the link takes you to
the sign up for AOL. I figured it was much easier to go through Winamp,
since I found it there. And it's still working that way, even though I can
no longer find the AOL with XM section of the Winamp library.

BTW, I just experimented and found that, in the terribly long and ugly URL I
gave you, everything after the question mark can be deleted, and it will
still work.

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-12 Thread Dana S. Leslie
But they *were* there when I first installed 5.1; that's how I found the URL
for WQXR. and that's why it's so weird that they've subsequently
disappeared, unless, as I suggested, they were, in fact, only there as a
trial offer, so to speak.

In any case, and what's even weirder, now, I can't even find the main
treeview in the library. And, it's NOT the JAWS focus issue. Sighted friends
have confirmed that it's just not there, any longer.

I've tried re-installing 5.1 over the current installation. but that didn't
change anything. Since I hardly ever use the Library, except for editing and
rearranging bookmarks, and thanks to Chris I now know how to do that by
editing winamp.bm, I'm seriously considering uninstalling 5.1, and
downgrading to 5.092. Any thought before I do?

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the installation archive for

Reports coming in are that the Edirol R-1 is very accessible.
The retail price of the R-1 is $550.00 but Chirping Bat sells it for
$400.00, includes shipping in the United States.
Here is a major distribution problem with Edirol that has just come up.
As of October 31 Edirol will be completely reorganized. I don't know what
that means for my dealership yet. It could be business as usual or I could
loose my dealership. This is a very real possibility but information is
still scarce. They may put a stocking requirement on me that I can't
handle. If anyone wants an Edirol R-1 from Chirping Bat for a $150.00

Re: winamp problem

2005-10-12 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Susan,

Yes; the section of the library that contained the AOL with XM streams was
introduced with 5.1. Interestingly, though, the URL I found for WQXR works
in version 5.092 (to which I've now downgraded), as well. I suspect that if
we could identify the URLs for other XM streams (without having to use that
now disappeared section of Winamp's library) they would work, too. If
anybody knows any such URLs, I'd love to try the experiment.

2005-10-12 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. The streams probably wouldn't work, but who knows?
On my system, the 5.09 versions caused nothing but trouble. 5.1 works
fine, but for most things I use 5.08E because that seems to be the most
stable version.
and as I said before, WQXR is not, in any way at all, affiliated with xm,
or aol. So logic would suggest that that station isn't even effected by
this. it's really not on our end, it's an aol thing.

Hi Gary; thanks for your help and I just got some info re burning mp3sonto
a dvd and apparently one can burn mp3 music onto a dvdr/w as mp3s but it
seems that there is no other alternative like say, changing mp3 music to a
dvd burning mode but I think it's possible to put cda or wave music files
onto a dvdr/w. And if that's the case, does this mean that after cda or
wave files are burnedon a dvd disk, that that will be crunched even more
than mp3s ar crunched? M, not sure. Ken B

Automation Programs for Internet Radio

2005-10-12 Thread Mari Dole
Hello,

Has anyone had experience with a program called MP3 DJ? Would this
program work with JAWS or another screen reader? I am in hopes that we
could use this program to schedule files to play at specific times. Are
there any other programs that people are aware of that would allow us to
schedule songs, commercials and promos to play at specific times or in
specific order?

Thanks for your help.

RE: digital recorders?

2005-10-12 Thread Andre Van Deventer
Hi

This may be overkill perhaps, but I recently purchased the Iriver h320 mp3
player/recorder. The recorded sound quality is excellent and you have more
than enough space with 20 gb to work with. The player is also very easy to
use for a blind person. The only thing you may need some sighted assistance
is with setting parameters in the menus, but even that may not be too
difficult with some practice.

Regards

Andre

Reports coming in are that the Edirol R-1 is very accessible.
The retail price of the R-1 is $550.00 but Chirping Bat sells it for
$400.00, includes shipping in the United States.
Here is a major distribution problem with Edirol that has just come up.
As of October 31 Edirol will be completely reorganized. I don't know what
that means for my dealership yet. It could be business as usual or I could
loose my dealership. This is a very real possibility but information is
still scarce. They may put a stocking requirement on me that I can't
handle. If anyone wants an Edirol R-1 from Chirping Bat for a $150.00
discount or any other Edirol product I would advise getting your order in
now. But again, I don't know what's going to happen after October 31.

Re: gigs, megs, megabytes

2005-10-12 Thread Gary Wood
Hi Ken. I think the disks I burn or CDR's I don't have any DVD disks as of
yet. Do you primarily use DVD disks for burning? Even DVD audio?
