Re: recording from cassette
Hi Tessa, Open volume control and press Alt+P for Options then press Enter on Properties. Tab once which will take you to playback radio button. Down arrow once to get to Recording. Tab again and you will be taken to the list of volume controls available for display, including the one for microphone. Arrow down through these, making sure the ones you wish to be displayed are checked. As you need to hear what you are recording from cassette, ensure that what you hear is checked, then press Enter. You are now back in the Recording Control settings for volume. Make sure that what you hear is selected and that the volume of that control is at a reasonable level. Close volume control and the next time you record from cassette, you should be able to hear what you are recording. Sorry if this explanation sounds a bit long-winded. Hope you can follow it. Best. If you're going to use the what you hear option, keep in mind that if your speech runs through your sound card, any speech spoken by your screen reader, or any windows sounds will be captured in the recording. recording mpg video from hard disk
Hi Folks I have software that can record off-air digital television to the hard disk. The recordings are in mpg format but because of the high quality, an hour's worth of video is about 2 gegs. Is it possible to put, say an hour's worth of programming onto cd using Easy CD Creator 6? Will Creator spread the data over more than one disk automatically if the file is big. I guess what I'm asking is what is the best way to get it to cd? Is there software readily available that might, certainly reduce the quality, but compress the .mpg file?. Hope this isn't considered too off topic, but there is an audio content to the mpg file. Robert thanks, very clear explanation, problem is, now I can't even record LOL. something is being recorder but it's not the tape it just seems to be the sound of the machine. I have windows 98 and jaws 3.5 and am trying to record with cdex but when I go to check the items you suggested jaws doesn't tell me whether an item is checked or unchecked. If I have both line in and mic checked then when I check the record volume one or other of these is muted . Re: recording from cassette
Hi Tessa, Although there are several selections to be made for recording, you can only choose one of them and it seems by selecting what you hear, you have forfeited the option to record from cassette through line in. I didn't realise this would happen but it obviously has. I'd suggest you go back into the recording options and select line in. At least you will then be able to record from cassette. If you are still unable to hear what you are recording, the only other suggestion I can make is to recheck the playback settings in the volume control and make sure that line in isn't muted. If jaws won't supply this information you may have to resort to sighted assistance. Good luck. Robert. - Original Message - From: "Tessa" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: recording from cassette
Hi Tessa, Although there are several recording options to choose from, Microphone, line in, what you hear, you can only use one of them at a time and by changing from line in to what you hear, you have lost the ability to record from cassette. I didn't realise this would happen but it obviously has. I suggest you revert back to line in as you will then at least be able to record your cassettes, even if you can't hear what you are recording. The only other suggestion I can make is to recheck the playback settings in volume control to ensure that line in is not muted. Wich would be better?
Hello I am ready to start trying to make MP3 books out of text files. My question is would I be better off to take the time to record each chapter in its own MP3 file instead of one big one? I want to put them in a MD player and take them with me. I suspect that if I made them into separate files I would be more able to skip to the next chapter easier. I suspect that if it was one big file that I would spend allot of time fast forwarding. Are these correct assumptions? It would probably make it easier to read if you do separate chapters. You can bookmark with the md, but I don't know how accessible that feature is on your model. You are aware the minidisc players do not play mp3 files. They use a Sony proprietary format called ATRAC. You will need to convert the mp3 files to ATRAC in a program such as Real player or, Sonic Stage or Open MG Jukebox. >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 7/2/2004 11:14:28 AM >>> Hello I am ready to start trying to make MP3 books out of text files. Re: recording from cassette
The sound cards in the last few years have all had the multichannel support, so perhaps your speech hasn't talked, or you've turned off your windows sounds, but it's good that it hasn't happened, because if you're recording something live, never to be repeated, it wouldn't do to have a screen reader chime in, or a windows sound happen if it could be avoided. Also, you should be able to check the what you hear option, and then go back and check the microphone option afterwords and use both if you wanted. You have to do it in that order though, because the what you hear option shuts others off. Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Try Runbox. 100 megs of storage for a reasonable price. Re: recording from cassette
I think the speech is going through a separate channel. Only thing I can say is I do one thing at a time. When I am encoding, I have to concentrate on that so I do nothing else while I am listening to the book or radio broadcast I am encoding, or the music I am working on. I don't know how it works for those who wants to do more than one thing. I cannot concentrate on more than one thing even in Windows. I know you can multitask, but I just don't. I'm one of those who cannot walk and chew gum at the same time, if you get the picture. Mimi - Original Message - From: "Melissa Hambleton" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list.
