Auto-completion

2008-05-13 Thread Paul Vigay
Are there any plans to add auto-completion to forms in NetSurf, along the
lines of the URL bar auto-completion?

In any case, an app such as FormFiller from
http://riscos.kevsoft.co.uk/

does a pretty smart auto-fill for me. You can also drag and drop from
pretty well any RISC OS app's window into a NetSurf form, as I've just
done with our local GPs' site to get repeat prescriptions.

With best wishes,

Peter.

I did think of that. Thanks.

However, it's not quite what I'm looking for. I've got a few forms which
have about 50 or 60 different regular values for a single field. With
Safari, I start typing and it will guess which one I want from previous
entries, which saves retyping long entries and also saves having to
remember all the possible values.

Another suggestion for NetSurf

2008-05-13 Thread Paul Vigay
I know what would be good

When you click 'back' on NetSurf, it could keep any data entered into
forms. There are numerous times when I complete a lengthy form and click
submit, only to find that I've mistyped the captcha or some other error has
occurred, and the site solution is to click back and complete the missing
fields - which mean you have to re-type the whole form again, which is a
pain if you've entered a lengthy comment.

The only (occasional) way around this is to adjust click on the submit
button to submit into a new window, but sometimes this doesn't work.

Yes that's very true. I've often resorted to typing a long comment
into Edit and then saving it into the form in case the submit fails.
This method is also easier in the case of forms that don't format
properly, so that you have a very small textarea.

Another bonus if using StrongED doing it that way is that StrongED has a

Not sure if Edit does.

I find them invaluable in order to make legible submissions to forum. That
along with remembering form contents, which is why most of my browsing is
on now with Firefox on Linux. These features would certainly get me to use
NetSurf more again.

On the other hand I don't find form completion that useful, at least not
how Firefox does it, as I find myself trying to edit a search criteria only
for it to select the previous one when I press enter.

Legibility has nothing to do with orthography, and you don't usually
have any control over it. Perhaps you mean "intelligible".

I found the form filler quite useful in Safari, although I hadn't
explicitly turned it on. On the other hand I get very annoyed when
browsers try to guess the URL I'm typing in.

Btw, it's "a criterion" - spell checkers don't spot grammatical and
semantic errors.

I knew someone would say that!

Using the right word or ending instead of the wrong one isn't
pedantry! What's the point of getting the spelling right if you then
use the wrong accidence?

Pedantry?

Accuracy?

OT? OK!

I regret that this is the sort of phenomena for which the media has to
take the blame, with its ignorance of singulars and plurals.

Just downloaded today's development version. However I suspect it was
something else going awry that caused NS to generate the error as the
previous version wasn't doing it before. I didn't find anything else
that was affected.

Sure, but it's hardly high priority. I expect there's an open feature

Increase the memory cache size to enhance the chances of clicking back
retaining the form data. I suspect there's already a feature request for
this feature.

The only (occasional) way around this is to adjust click on the submit
button to submit into a new window, but sometimes this doesn't work.

There shouldn't be any difference (other than adjust producing a new
window). Please submit bug report(s) with details of sites that fail.

There's insufficient information to go on here. If the warning was

It was only a warning, not a crash. Everything continued to work as
normal. As I've now run the latest version I think the log file will
have been overwritten.

I think Paul's point is that if the response comes back in a new
