taking over CPAN modules of someone who passed away
Hi, one of the members of Israel.pm - Ariel Brosh - has passed away a couple of month ago. With Oded Reznik, a previous employer and friend of him we have discussed that we should make sure his modules on CPAN are going to be in good hands. I volunteered to take care of this. Ariels CPAN id was SCHOP, he had 14 distributions, one of them was registered. Seehttp://search.cpan.org/author/SCHOP There are two issues: 1) I'd like to keep his CPAN id alive and in his directory write a few lines, probably in a README file mentioning that he has passed away and that his modules are now maintained by other people. How can I do this ? - Naturally I don't know his password. 2) I'd like to know how can someone take over his modules ? Is this only a matter of uploading a higher version to the home directory of the new maintainer ? In the CPAN FAQ there is an entry "How do I go about maintaining a module when the author is unresponsive?" but I did not see whom should I contact at CPAN in order to resolve this matter in case the original maintainer is not responding Once I understand this I'll announce the availability of the modules so anyone who is interested will be able to take them over. The remaining modules probably I (SZABGAB) will take over temporarily in case there are requests for bug fixes and/or to make the next transition easier. regards Gabor Szabo Israel.pm - http://www.perl.org.il/

I got only one e-mail from PAUSE!
Hi CPAN Admins! as I recall I used to get two e-mails from PAUSE for every upload, but now I got only one. I've uploaded https://metacpan.org/release/SZABGAB/Pod-Tree-1.17_01 2 hours ago and got only the first e-mail. I have not received the e-mail about indexing. Is this because it is a developer release with an _ in the version number? I could not find any information about when I am supposed to get an e-mail in this document: http://pause.perl.org/pause/query?ACTION=pause_04about Looking at the log file I could not figure it out either: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=tail_logfile I did not see any mention of "e-mail sent" in there or indexing start, or indexing skipped. regards Gabor

Fwd: Maintenance of Text::MediawikiFormat
Hi, I sent this message 2 weeks ago but it has not been delivered. I am trying it again, this time CC-in the PAUSE admins with the request to get co-maintainer bit for Text::MediawikiFormat Gabor -- Forwarded message -- From: Gabor Szabo Date: Sun, Sep 14, 2014 at 4:36 PM Subject: Maintenance of Text::MediawikiFormat To: Derek Price Hi Derek, I've just tried to install Text::MediawikiFormat as a prerequisite of some other module, but it failed. I know I can install it after skipping the tests, but I think it would be much better to upload a new version to CPAN fixing this issue. As I can see you have not touched an y of your CPAN modules since 2008 so I wonder if you'd be ok giving me co-maintainership of Text::MediawikiFormat and Text::MediawikiFormat::* so I can upload a new version and get it indexed. If yes, please go to http://pause.perl.org/ login, select "Change Permission" that will bring you to https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=share_perms In the 3.-rd box select the module names and click on 3.1 my PAUSE ID is SZABGAB Gabor -- Gabor Szabo http://szabgab.com/ Perl Maven http://perlmaven.com/ Perl Weekly http://perlweekly.com/

They want to keep the right to "not give a shit" and I can understand that. They (or may I say, 'we') have other things in our life and after uploading the module they are usually more important than that module. The main problem, as I see, is that contribution to a module or co-maintainer ship feels a lot less interesting, and a lot less valuable than having your name on you own module. (yeah, lots of ego-trip in there). I think if we could encourage more people to contribute to existing modules and if we could encourage module authors to let more people contribute/co-main etc. their modules, a large part of the problems (lack of maintenance, too many similar solutions to the same problem) we encounter would go away. I am not sure we can do that or how to do achieve that. Gabor
