Welcome To The Straight Dope Mailing List
Hi and welcome to The Straight Dope Mailing List, a weekly bulletin from Straight Dope World HQ. We've got several departments, including Cecil's current weekly column, Straight Dope classics, staff reports by the Straight Dope Science Advisory Board, the latest from Weird Earl's, and whatever else we feel like throwing in. The mailing will offer a sampling of what's new at the Straight Dope this week and provide links so you can get the full text for any item that interests you. Should you ever decide you'd like to leave the list, unsubscribe instructions will be included in every mailing we send to you. In addition, there will be a link at our website at http://www.straightdope.com where you can change your email address, put your account on hold, or unsubscribe. We put together a mailing every Friday (usually) and our friends at jokeaday.com send it out for free. Help us maintain this attractive financial arrangement by visiting www.jokeaday.com and saying what a nice site they have, how handsome Ray (the proprietor) looks today, etc. We know we can count on you. Thanks for joining us!
Module submission Net::IANA::PortNumbers
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Net::IANA::PortNumbers DSLIP: bdpOg description: translate ports to services and vice versa userid: FOX (Adam J. Foxson) chapterid:5 (Networking_Devices_IPC) communities: #perl, [EMAIL PROTECTED], Kurt Starsinic similar: Net::servent rationale: Net::IANA::PortNumbers uses the official IANA port number registry at the protocol/number assignments directory. It translates port numbers to services and descriptions, and services to port numbers and descriptions, among other things. Net::servent offers similar functionality but is less portable, less flexible, and relies on usually archaic and less comprehensive data in /etc/services Many improvements have been made after the initial release, based upon feedback from Kurt Starsinic, and others. enteredby: FOX (Adam J. Question about cpan.org
I emailed you a couple weeks ago regarding our site and was wondering if you had time to get to it. I see your link to wallstreetcity.com on your page http://search.cpan.org/author/MSISK/Finance-QuoteHist-0.29/lib/Finance/Quote Hist/WallStreetCity.pm and am wondering if my site, www.StockMarketYellowPages.com , would also be useful to your visitors. It allows you to search for public companies based upon their descriptions. If you want to link to us you can place your site in our directory. You also can put our search on your site and make it look as if people are still on your site. I wont bother you again if you dont get back to me. Please email me if you have any questions. Thanks, Dan

Module Compress::Bzlib [Was: Module Compress::Bzip2]
Hello I wrote to the list a week ago. The maintainer of Compress::Bzip2 does not want to support and maintain his Compress::Bzip2 anymore. He agreed to hand over the Module to me but I did not find a description how to do this. I wrote some fixes for the module and want to publish them. If noone can point out how to do this, I am going to upload the fixed release as Compress::Bzlib and the confusion might be bigger than before. Greetings Oliver Paukstadt
