[MlMt] No sound after migration
Hi, I have had to do a clean install of macOS (14.1) and to reinstall MailMate. For the most part, everything is working fine. HOWEVER, since the move I find that I am unable to get MailMate to play ANY SOUNDS whatsoever. It doesn't play the whoosh sound for messages being sent, and it doesn't play any sound for incoming messages. Yet when I go to MailMate's preferences and check under Counters > Sound, there is a sound selected there and if I select it again in the popup menu, it plays just fine. Similarly, in MailMate's preferences, under Composer > Sent Message Sound, there is a sound selected there and if I select it again in the popup menu, it plays just fine. So it's not like there cannot be ANY sounds coming from MailMate. They play fine in the preference panes. But they don't play (or are silenced) while using MailMate. I have reproduced this with both r5937 and the latest, r5998. I don't know what else to try. Sounds play fine elsewhere in macOS, through the appropriate channels (general sound output for general sounds and specific sound output for sound effects). Anyone have any suggestions? I believe you need to enable "Play user interface sound effects" in the System Settings->Sound preference pane. I don't like needing to do that, and mentioned so to Benny a long time ago. -Eric On 20 Nov 2023, at 9:57, Pierre Igot wrote: Hi, I have had to do a clean install of macOS (14.1) and to reinstall MailMate. [MlMt] Fwd: No sound after migration
Pierre, Belay my last remark. I do not hear the sound similar to your description, haven’t noticed it before but you are correct. I checked my settings and they are like yours in MM on the version 5998. Not hearing incoming mail sounds (likewise set in Settings to your settings, in Counters) in MM. Other parts of the setting (E.G., counting incoming messages do work fine, though). My sound of choice for incoming mail is the Apple preset, “Basso”. No incoming mail sounds work in actual incoming mail for me either. I was confused by the other machine sounds (MacMini running Mail on the same system coming from the other room. It has worked on other previous versions as you noted. Respectfully, Henry Seiden - - Techworks Pro Co. Thanks to Erik Sharakan for his prompt answer. I actually realized this myself even before I saw his reply that notifications needed to be enabled in System Settings. Everything is fine now. I don’t REMEMBER seeing MM asking me to enable notifications after I installed it. Either it did and I missed it, or it somehow didn’t. Oh well. As always, we have Apple’s security theatre to thank for this. Thanks again. Eric, My sound settings are set that way (in Settings>Sound>Play User interface sound effects”) and still no sound for either incoming or outgoing, in MacOS 14.1.1. I assume then that is a MM thing? Re: [MlMt] Office365 not working anymore
Hi Angelo, Might this be because the server admins have configured only a subset of mail clients to connect - for example Outlook? I can’t use MailMate with my corporate Outlook365 service because it throws up a HTTP based authentication/ask the admin for permission box and the admin won’t let me connect using MailMate. Also, I had to remove the key(s) in the Apple Keychain application. Then I set it up again and it kept working (for a while). Hello, On 20 Nov 2023, at 18:49, Alex Abdo wrote: Angelo, thank you so much for the suggestion. I gave that a try but still ended up with the same issue. Here is the log from the activity viewer: It’s been quite a while since I used a Outlook/Office365 account with MailMate, but besides removing the account and the keys, I *seem* to remember that I also had to remove the ‘connected’ application from the Outlook/Office365 settings for MailMate. But as you’ve not even succeeded in connecting once since the move from the self-hosted Exchange to Office365, I doubt it’s there. I think Raza is correct in assuming that they’ve just blocked access except certain mail clients. I’m guessing they won’t let you create an ‘app password’ in the Office365 settings? --- With regards, Angelo Machils___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate

Re: [MlMt] No sound after migration
Eric, Yes, it seems like this may be difference(s) between M1/M2 and Intel machines(Benny). I used the app to redirect MM to my MBP Speakers as a trial and incoming messages now work after a delay, but outgoing messages do not (no woosh!). Curious. Though it works for me on MacOS 14.1.1 and MM r5998, an an Intel MBP. -Eric On 20 Nov 2023, at 10:37, Henry Seiden wrote: Eric, My sound settings are set that way (in Settings>Sound>Play User interface sound effects”) and still no sound for either incoming or outgoing, in MacOS 14.1.1. I assume then that is a MM thing? Just for fun, I tried turning the switch there off and then on again without success. Respectfully, Henry Seiden - - Techworks Pro Co. Re: [MlMt] No sound after migration
Eric, As I said in a previous post, was able to check settings in Sound Settings, switch is on there but MM doesn’t cooperate with Sound settings when sending or receiving. I was able to partially get it fixed (as a test) in a 3ᴿᴰ party app (Sound Source). So conjecturing, something is preventing effects (sounds) playing out on my machine. More likely than not it’s related to a processor patch in M1/M2 that isn’t the same for Intel machines, since Eric confirmed his Intel machine is OK on the same version OS & MM settings on an Intel flavored MBP. Maybe Benny can address it. For me, it’s a minor inconvenience which I’m living with, for now. Respectfully, Henry Seiden - - Techworks Pro Co.
