My sound settings are set that way (in Settings>Sound>Play User
interface sound effects”) and still no sound for either incoming or
outgoing, in MacOS 14.1.1.
I assume then that is a MM thing? Just for fun, I tried turning the
switch there off and then on again without success.

know what else to try. Sounds play fine elsewhere in macOS, through
the appropriate channels (general sound output for general sounds and
specific sound output for sound effects).
Anyone have any suggestions?
