[MlMt] Resizing images

2021-03-08 Thread Jolin Warren
One of the things that I think Apple Mail does really well is dealing
with image attachments. In particular, when I’m sending a message and
I need to include some photos to show what I’m talking about, Mail
shows me the total size of the email with the images and lets me resize
them, adjusting the displayed size to indicate the impact of the
resizing:

"PastedImage.png")
![](cid:E55905C2-02DE-40CA-8846-E7A61FAEFDF6@oakandapple.org
"PastedImage.png")

How do people manage images in MailMate? I have to confess that when I
need to included images in an email, particularly photos, I usually open
up Mail and send the email from there. But I’d prefer to stay in
MailMate, so is there a way to easily choose the size of any image
attachments and see what size the email will be?

Re: [MlMt] Resizing images

2021-03-08 Thread Zak McClellan

Jolin-

I resize the images when I want them embedded in the email. If I am
sending an attachment/file I will send as is, up to 20 MB. Above 20 MB
I will link to a file. This is typically with PDF's through dropbox.

I use an Alfred (v3.8.6) script to resize images.
https://www.alfredforum.com/topic/8397-resize-image/

http://www.packal.org/workflow/resize-image

This is usually with screenshots that I size down to fit on screen.
Although this workflow is performed on the jpg/png in finder before I
attach to the email message.
I do not know of anything inside of MailMate (v2.0BETA 6151) that upon
attaching a file or on send that reduces the email/image size.

[MlMt] gmail keeps failing to sync

2021-03-08 Thread Evan Silberman
I am using MailMate with two gmail accounts. I noticed that MailMate
randomly throws an error that says my accounts are offline. However,
they work fine in the browser.

Looking at my folder structure today, I noticed that the “Gmail”
folder has “(failed) next to it. What does this mean for my setup?

[MlMt] send messages from one account and save in Sent folder of another account

2021-03-08 Thread Aram Harrow

I am looking for analogue of gmail "send mail as".

When I use the web gmail client I use the "send mail as" feature to send
emails from my work email address, and gmail automatically places them
in the gmail Sent mail folder. When I do this from mailmate, gmail is
not used at all so the message does not appear in my gmail Sent folder;
instead it goes to my work Sent mail folder.
Does anyone know how to set up mailmate to send mail using the mit.edu
IMAP server but saving the message in the gmail.com Sent mail folder?

Thanks, and apologies if this question has been asked before.

I think this is controlled by the "Default email reader" setting in
Mail.app's General prefpane.

You can also set this (and many other defaults) using 'SwiftDefaultApps'
which is a free app (well, preference pane, actually)

This screenshot shows how it works:

Or you can set it from within Mailmate (Preferences → General).

Are you looking for the IMAP Account Settings (right-click on the server
folder in the mailbox tree)?

There you can list multiple email addresses comma separated that you can
show as your-from address. I think your GMAIL account must have already
agreed to the ones you use.

[MlMt] Downloading only a portion of a mailbox?

2021-03-08 Thread Jim Fenton
I would like to use Mailmate to access the IETF mail archive that is
made available via IMAP. Some of the mailing lists (folders) there are
enormous. Is there a way to add this server and subscribe to folders
with Mailmate only accessing the latest, say, 5000 messages per folder?

On a related topic, how much of the mail do I end up storing locally? Is
it just the headers, plus message bodies for messages I read, or does it
pull everything down for me to read potentially offline? In this
situation, I’m happy to sacrifice the offline capability to save time
and space.

That failed miserably for me when I tried it with MM, a few releases
ago. MM isn't happy with a read-only server.

No. People have asked about this repeatedly, but I do not recall Benny
ever providing such a hidden feature, although I think he has engaged on
the topic...

I think Thunderbird is the only general-purpose mail client that tries
to manage a partial cache intelligently. When last I checked, it did so
poorly, but that was years ago.

On a related topic, how much of the mail do I end up storing locally?

All of it, in a file-per-message directory tree, plus an index that is
about 30% as large as the message store itself.

That's the price of searching multiple gigabytes and hundreds of
thousands of message on arbitrary headers and content in a handful of
seconds.

Is it just the headers, plus message bodies for messages I read, or
does it pull everything down for me to read potentially offline? In

Storage is cheap. The time spent to download messages is a one-time
cost, traded for the time you would otherwise spend looking for mail
based on a limited subset of headers

That means that MM isn't ideal for how everyone works with email.

[MlMt] Feature request: Forwarding an (HTML) message without quoting

2021-03-08 Thread leo

Hi Benny,

Feature request: Is it possible to have a preference when forwarding a
(HTML) message to decide whether the old message is quoted or not,
please?

As detailed in the mailing list thread “_How to forward without
quoting?_” from last year it is in the current version generally not
possible to do so.

This hits me again and again. :-(

Many thanks,

[MlMt] Easiest way to attach a message as an EML attachment to an already existing draft?

2021-03-08 Thread leo

Hi there

Sometimes I want to send a few messages as EML attachments to another
email address. I can easily send _one_ message via

`Message —> Forward as Attachment`

This creates a draft with the EML attached. However I have no idea how
to easily attach a _second_ message as EML to that first draft.

I tried some drag-and-drop, but couldn’t make it work. Exporting to
the file system appears to me pretty cumbersome (maybe I haven’t found
an easy way to do it). - Any suggestions?

Many thanks for any help,
