[MlMt] Tags/Keywords and Gmail Labels
Hello all, While playing around with tags/keywords and Gmail labels, I found that applying a label to a group of messages in a folder (22 of them, there are 3 in sent messages that are not selected), then adding the Gmail Label to the tag preference entry, all of the emails disappear. I can't find them using tags or searching for the prefix applied to the subject of all the list emails. Removing the Gmail label from the tag entry allows them to be found again. If I do this over and over, I get a couple different results. Sometimes after applying the tag and then adding the Gmail label, the smart mailbox I have set to look for the tag shows messages that are in the sent folder (the 3 messages) but none of the messages I selected and added the label to. When I remove the Gmail Label from the tag preference entry, the messages reappear but sometimes they no longer have the tag/keyword attached, sometimes they do. I did one run where I made sure only the 22 messages had the tag and the 3 sent messages did not but adding the Gmail label to the tag preference prevented access to the 22 messages and showed the 3 sent messages as having the tag applied (only the 22 messages showed in the smart mailbox prior). I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or there's some kind of bug in the app. I would appreciate if someone else could try these steps and see if they get similar results or can point out something I'm missing. I am not sure whether the following will help you or not but I encountered what I thought a weird behavior when experimenting with tags while MailMate did was it was meant to do. It was not clear to me before that Mailmate's tags are just visible labels for IMAP keywords and tagging really means assigning those keywords. In case of tags connected to standard IMAP keywords, like \Seen, the tagging will appear to be done spontaneously by MailMate itself. Furthermore, changing the IMAP keyword connected to a given tag will change the visible tags. Replacing standard IMAP keyword with a custom one, for example, in the tag definition, makes those tags disappear, while the actual keywords are not changed. The bottom line is that tagging is a 2-layer construct which further involves the actual IMAP server in the background. [MlMt] Outlook users have long lines to read when I send them emails
Hi, using MailMate for a while but just got a complaint from a friend who uses Outlook and says that he has to scroll miles to the right to read a whole paragraph I write. Is there a MailMate setting that will put in hard returns to prevent this? Thanks, Mark McCullagh ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate

Microsoft is certainly not going to fix anything. @Mark: The problem is probably related to MailMate now allowing the user to explicitly style outgoing messages. *Ironically*, this is mainly allowed because email clients like Outlook are really bad at handling unstyled HTML messages (e.g., displaying them using an “ugly” font). Do you know which Outlook client we are dealing with here? Desktop or webmail? Platform? (It's a bit tricky to debug when/if I cannot access the receiving email client.) I suspect it's related to how MailMate specifies line wrapping should be done and this might mean that the browser used could also be the issue (if it's Outlook webmail). If you can share an example email then it could be helpful. Use “Help ▸ Send Feedback” and then drag the email onto the composer text field to attach it. Alternatively, I'd like a screenshot of your settings in the Composer preferences pane. Oh, and just for the record: Hardwrapping is not a solution I would consider. It'll have to be fixed some other way. -- Benny ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] mailmate Digest, Vol 66, Issue 22
That’s right, MailMate fetches emails when focusing on the folder. And there does not seem to be an easy solution, since I do want to automatically sync my mail when I’m on my regular schedule. What I want to do is, every once in a while, “ok, I need to concentrate on this project for the next 3 hours, so I don’t want to know that I have any unattended emails, but I still want to be able to launch MailMate and draft or send messages if something comes up to my mind”. So far, turning off every notification on MailMate, hiding the Mailboxes sidebar and focusing on an empty folder seems to do the trick. I still tend to go to my Inbox and freak out with any new message, but I guess that’s a behavior I have to learn to change. Thanks for your thoughts. It’s a bit of a hassle, since I have two sources and planning to have a third one, so I have to take every one of them offline, but it does fit the purpose. A ‘Do not disturb’ button for MailMate would be wonderful, certainly. Thanks a lot! Esteban ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate

You have probably found some bug(s). I don't think changing Gmail label mappings in the Tags preferences pane is 100% robust. It might some times require relaunching MailMate before the changes are updated. Also, it might take some time before changes done server side propagate to MailMate. It's all a bit tricky to get to work properly, especially because “[Gmail]/All Mail” is involved. Debugging is easier if you can describe as simple steps as possible to reproduce an issue with a single message (if possible). Then I can try to reproduce it. -- Benny -- Message: 6 Date: Fri, 09 Sep 2016 16:28:07 +0200 From: "Benny Kjær Nielsen" To: "MailMate Users" Subject: Re: [MlMt] Outlook users have long lines to read when I send them emails Message-ID: <5a9254f1-57de-472d-81ac-7ad91c73a...@freron.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"; Format="flowed" On 9 Sep 2016, at 15:51, John D. [MlMt] Going online/offline
I know that I can take a mailbox online and offline by right-clicking on the source icon for it. There are two problems with that. First, when I right-click on the icon (which I do by a two-finger tap on my trackpad, if that makes a difference), it tries to assemble a display of all messages from that source, in all folders. That's a great thing to do on a single-tap, but to me a double-tap shouldn't shift focus, it should just call up the attribute menu. Second, I have ~8 mailboxes; if I want to go offline completely (and I sometimes do, such as right now when I'm in a low-bandwidth environment), I don't want to have to scroll down to all eight and go through the time-consuming double-tap/select process. Apart from fixing the focus change (and I don't know if that's technically feasible), would it be possible to have Offline and Online entries in the File menu, with both an "All" option and entries for individual mailboxes? --Steve Bellovin, https://www.cs.columbia.edu/~smb ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
