Re Outlook and line returns -- problem solved, switched from "plain text" to "Markdown" in composition window, by selecting "Generate HTML even if only for styling" and selecting "Markdown" as markup language.

Thanks for responses!

I'm afraid it's only in the 1.9.5 release at this time :)

(The Sierra release date is now official. My focus will be on getting
1.9.5 out of beta state and also completing an update of the homepage.)

Only by taking account(s) offline using “Mailbox ▸ Take Offline”
after selecting them under SOURCES in the mailbox list. This does not
prevent you from sending emails.

That's surprising. When this option is set, the intuitive result would
be only to fetch when using **Mailbox > Synchronize "<account>"** or
its associated shortcut.

Synchronization schedule is mainly intended to control how much work
MailMate does when idle, in particular, how often each mailbox in the
account is checked for new messages. I can understand that it can be a
bit counter intuitive that it's “overridden” when selecting a
mailbox, but this is a feature.

I've got some notes written down about how some kind of flexible “do
not disturb” feature could be implemented, but it's not something I've
done any work on yet.

While playing around with tags/keywords and Gmail labels, I found that applying a label to a group of messages in a folder (22 of them, there

Label to the tag preference entry, all of the emails disappear. I
can't find them using tags or searching for the prefix applied to the
subject of all the list emails. Removing the Gmail label from the tag
entry allows them to be found again.

If I do this over and over, I get a couple different results.
Sometimes after applying the tag and then adding the Gmail label,

Setting the label server side?

the smart mailbox I have set to look for the tag shows messages that
are in the sent folder (the 3 messages) but none of the messages I
selected and added the label to. When I remove the Gmail Label from
the tag preference entry, the messages reappear but sometimes they no
longer have the tag/keyword attached, sometimes they do.

I did one run where I made sure only the 22 messages had the tag and
the 3 sent messages did not but adding the Gmail label to the tag
preference prevented access to the 22 messages and showed the 3 sent
messages as having the tag applied (only the 22 messages showed in the
smart mailbox prior).

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or there's some kind of bug
in the app. I would appreciate if someone else could try these steps
and see if they get similar results or can point out something I'm
missing.

You have probably found some bug(s). I don't think changing Gmail label
mappings in the Tags preferences pane is 100% robust. It might some
times require relaunching MailMate before the changes are updated. Also,
it might take some time before changes done server side propagate to
MailMate. It's all a bit tricky to get to work properly, especially
because “[Gmail]/All Mail” is involved.

Debugging is easier if you can describe as simple steps as possible to
reproduce an issue with a single message (if possible). Then I can try
to reproduce it.

:) Unfortunately I've learned that no matter which email client or
server is to blame for an issue then it boils down to being my problem.
Microsoft is certainly not going to fix anything.

@Mark: The problem is probably related to MailMate now allowing the user
to explicitly style outgoing messages. *Ironically*, this is mainly
allowed because email clients like Outlook are really bad at handling
unstyled HTML messages (e.g., displaying them using an “ugly” font).

Do you know which Outlook client we are dealing with here? Desktop or
webmail? Platform?

(It's a bit tricky to debug when/if I cannot access the receiving email
client.)

I suspect it's related to how MailMate specifies line wrapping should be
done and this might mean that the browser used could also be the issue
(if it's Outlook webmail).

If you can share an example email then it could be helpful. Use “Help
▸ Send Feedback” and then drag the email onto the composer text
field to attach it. Alternatively, I'd like a screenshot of your
settings in the Composer preferences pane.

Oh, and just for the record: Hardwrapping is not a solution I would
consider. It'll have to be fixed some other way.

That’s right, MailMate fetches emails when focusing on the folder. And
there does not seem to be an easy solution, since I do want to
automatically sync my mail when I’m on my regular schedule. What I
want to do is, every once in a while, “ok, I need to concentrate on
this project for the next 3 hours, so I don’t want to know that I have
any unattended emails, but I still want to be able to launch MailMate
and draft or send messages if something comes up to my mind”.

So far, turning off every notification on MailMate, hiding the Mailboxes
sidebar and focusing on an empty folder seems to do the trick. I still
tend to go to my Inbox and freak out with any new message, but I guess
that’s a behavior I have to learn to change.

Thanks for your thoughts.
