accessible home library cataloging apps for the mac?
Hi guys, Does anyone know of any accessible book cataloging apps for the mac? I've got a huge amount of ebooks and audio books in various places I'd like to catalog. I've tried bookster and book collector, but neither seam completely accessible. Preferably I'd like one that has a companion iPhone app, but it's not essential. Thanks for any help. strange result when running a repair disk permissions, anyone no what it means?
Hi guys, I did a repair disk permissions tonight, because I haven't done one for a while, and my MBP has been running quite hot all day. In the list of repairs I got the message. warning: SUID file system library /CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDA/Agent" has been modified and will not be repaired. The repair finished with no problems, and my mac doesn't seam to be running as hot, the fan hasn't kicked in for a while now. But does anyone no what this message means? Re: strange result when running a repair disk permissions, anyone no what it means?
Hi Zack, Thanks, that makes sense when I think about it. I figgured it couldn't be anything to major when it finished the repair with no problem and my mac started to cool down strait after I ran the repair, and has been perfectly fine ever since. I wouldn't have even noticed that message if I hadn't checked the list of repairs at just the rite time. Thanks for the help. Kari. Re: strange result when running a repair disk permissions, anyone no what it means?
Hi Jonathan and all. Thanks for all this help. All my software and everything is up to date, so why this is showing up is still a mystery. I ran another permissions repair just before just out of curiosity,. The same message showed up which I'm not to worried about now, but I got another one on a java file, something about it being named or labelled incorrectly. So now I'm getting rather confused. Kari. Mac book pro running very hot
Hi guys, I've got a strange problem hear, and I'm really hoping it's software not hard ware. A couple of days ago my Mac book pro started running hot, the fan would kick in a short time after start up, and would pretty much run constantly from there until I shut down again. Now, it's the middle of winter hear in Australia, so the temperature hardly get's above 20 Celsius, Even with the heater going my lounge-room is definitely not hot enough to up set the MBP. I checked all the usual culprits, Things I'd forgotten to remove from the finder, apps running in the background, ect, no deal it still happened. I ran a permissions repair, worked for about a day, then started all over again. So I went deeper and had a look at the activity monitor. Most things are running at 0.0 or or not much higher, except for one. Something called "applespell.service" was varying between 84 and 99%. I quit it, and it went back to 0.0 and my MBP immediately started cooling down. A short while later it started heating up again and the fan cut in and remained on again. I went back and checked, and sure enough applespell.service" was running at 99%. Once again I quit, and things cooled down again. It's been running at 0.0 for a bit over an hour now, the Mac is a lot cooler, and the fan hasn't kicked in once. So I'm assuming I've found my problem. The thing is it seams to be reoccurring frequently. Does anyone have any idea what's going on hear? Do you guys think I've found the problem, or am I completely off the mark? I'd really like to fix this my self, not only for the satisfaction, but my nearest apple store is an hour and a half away, and finding transport for that long a trip can be tricky at best. :). Thanks in advance for any thoughts-help. A very! frustrated, Kari. Ps all software is up to date. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Update on mac running hot, from bad to worse!
Hi guys, Well things seam to have gone from bad to worse! My mac has been working fine all last night and most of to day, with applespell.service consistently running at 0.0. So I thought my troubles were over. No such luck! I wasn't paying very close attention, so I'm not 100 % sure when it started running hot again, but i'd say it's probably just the last hour it's been heating up again. I've had my mac running since 9 this morning so it's been on probably 4 and a half hours ruffly. Not always in use either. As soon as I noticed I went and checked and sure enough, my old friend applespell.service was running at 85.4 This is wear I ran in to real trouble, quitting or force quitting the process is now having no affect! I can't get it to run at anything below80. I've been monitoring it for a while now and I thought I'd post the details hear on the off chance someone can see something in them I'm missing. Parent process, launched 127, process group applespell.service 524, % CPU: 80.87, recent hangs: 0, threads:2, page ins: 0, ports: 44, mach messages in: 20410, CPU time: 29:15:29, mach messages out: 43623, context switches: 52211, mach system calls: 32307, Faults: text, UNIX system calls: 2831336. The only programs I've had running most of the time is safari, Mail and text edit. Thanks for any more thoughts, I guess my next move is to contact apple. *sigh* Kari. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Vo not remembering my place in text edit, or scrolling to specific points in documents.
Hi guys, I updated to lion last night, and now in text edit it won't move to a point in a document or remember my place. If I wanted to move to a specific point in a document I used to just be able to do CMD F type in the word I was looking for and it would jump to that point. Now if I do that or even scroll through using the aero keys, it says what the cursorsmoving over, but as soon as I try to read from that point with VO A or even just the up down aero keys, it jumps strait back to the top of the document. Same thing if I move out of text edit with CMD tab and come back, it's incredibly frustrating! I've been through the VO utility, and everything that should be checked seams to be, but it has been quite a while since I've had to have anything to do with those settings so I could quite easily be forgetting something. Can anyone shed some light on this? It's making life tricky to say the least. :) Thanks, Kari. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Can't get airport express to join wireless network, help please?
Hi guys, I'm having trouble setting up my airport express, hear's the steps I'm following, if anyone has any suggestions what do do I'll be most grateful. I'm trying to get the airport express to join my existing netgear wireless network. I've installed the CD that came with the airport express on my iMac, connected the ethernet cable to the airport express, and launched airport utility. The initial setup of finding, naming and password protecting the express goes flawlessly. The next step it says "select what you wan't to do with airport express" I select "I wan't airport express to join my currantnetwork" The next step says, "select what you wan't airport express to do" I select "I wan't airport express to wirelessly join my currant network" The next step, choose the wireless network you would like airport express to use" Netgear is selected, the next thing on this window is wireless security, My wireless network is password protected so the options I have are "none, WEP 40 bit, WEP128 bit, WEP transitional security network, WPa WPA2 personal, and wpa2 personal" I'm not Sure which to use so I've tried both WPa WPA2 personal, and wpa2 personal" I get the same result in the end. I then enter my netgear password, and hit continue. It asks me if the settings are correct and I press update. It then says "this device and it's network serviceswill be temporarily unavailable" I press continue. It updates and restarts, then I get a message, "problem 1 of 1, this wireless airport express is setup to join a specific wireless net work that can't be found, If you don't see the network in the network name popup menu enter the network name and password if necessary to try again. The network name and passwords are correct, so I press continue, I get the message, :do you wan't to continue with out resolving this problem? Click ignore to prevent your airport expresses status light from blinking amber for this problem" I then have the options "skip, cancel or ignore" I haven't gotten any further then this. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to get it to join my existing network? I can't use my wireless internet while the airport express is pluged in, I have to unplug it for my netgear network to work again. Can any one help? Hi, If by connecting by ethernet you mean connecting the ethernet cable to the airport express and in airport utility selecting the option to setup with ethernet connection, I've tried that. VO will only say safari busy, safari ready on mobile facebook site?
Hi lister's, For the last week or so every time I try to read comments, event invites or practically anything other then the home page on m.facebook.com, vo just keeps saying safari busy, safari ready. It just keeps looping around and around till I move away from that page. The main page of m.facebook.com works with no problem, but nothing beyond it. I haven't noticed any other webpages doing this. Is anyone else having this problem? if not any idea what I can do to fix it? It's incredibly frustrating not being able to read FB comments. Re: fried google
strangely it's apple mail doing this with my optus account . My gmail's working fine. but When ever I go to check my optus inbox it's, "please enter your password for this account" It only started yesterday, and it's slowly getting worse. Along with safari going in to an endless "safari busy safari ready" Loop on some pages. All my mail accounts work fine on my iPhone and windows laptop, It just seams to be apple mail having problems.
